All Games are tested at 1080P Resolution with High Graphics Preset on a RX 7800 XT GPU and 32GB DDR5 6000Mhz RAM.

for just $350 to 380 you can get the R7 7800X3D for games.

A lot of games don't use all available cores, though game software today really doesn't need more than 8 for the most part - which is why core counts higher than 8 affect productivity application performance a lot while doing nothing much for gaming performance in many instances. Also, the 65W 7900 has a lower preset power-use threshold so it limits itself to run more power-efficiently, though a simple BIOS toggle can remove that preset baseline limiter & make it run like the warmer, unfettered 7900X & thus outperform the 7700X at FPS gaming, if that's your thing - though I would upgrade the CPU cooler & not use the mediocre Wraith Prism cooler that comes bundled with the 7900 if you want to run it like a 7900X. Bottom line is that the 7700X will be slightly faster that the stock-running 65W 7900 on any application that only needs/uses 8 cores or less. Otherwise, the 7900 will pull ahead more & more, whether in stock 7900 mode or unlocked "7900X" mode.

the 2 CCD's in the 7900X creates higher latency between core and cache since they had to travel to the IO die back and fort, clearly the 7900x is for multithreaded applications.
