English transcript 0:00 Now we have looked at the church records, house interrogation records, 0:04 migration records, birth records, marriage records and death records, 0:07 and those are the really valuable and important documents 0:12 which must always be consulted. 0:15 But there are shortcuts, there are aids, 0:19 personal registers and databases of various kinds 0:22 which you can very well use to find the right one, find it in the church records. 0:27 We will look at such a modern aid, Sweden's death book. 0:33 And there is a completely new version here called Sweden's Death Book 1860 to 2016. 0:40 So it is 150 years and well that of Swedish deaths 0:44 and it is practically complete. It might be missing 0:48 a few hundred people, but otherwise it's every single person 0:51 who have died in Sweden during the last 150 years. 0:56 And they are searchable in all sorts of different ways. 0:59 If you go into Sweden's death book, you get a search menu that looks like this. 1:06 If I press "search" here, I find a number of fields to fill in. 1:12 Here I then fill in, for example, a surname, I take my grandmother for example 1:18 Sandgren here, and her name is Karin. 1:21 Yes, maybe that's enough? We check, we press "search" 1:24 and then I get 27 pieces, and that was a bit much. 1:28 I go back to the search form, because I know she was born in 1894, and then I add it. 1:35 Then there is only one. And that's my grandmother. 1:38 And then we get information about her here on the right. 1:42 We get her social security number, last name and all her first names. 1:46 a.m We get the address she was listed on when she died, and we get her date of death, Christmas Day 1987. 1:53 And we also get this information, that it is in Oscar's parish, Furusundsgatan. 1:59 Which in turn is part of the city of Stockholm, and Uppland and everything it wants. 2:04 But perhaps this task is just as important. She was born in 1894, 20/3, in Hedvig Eleonora parish. 2:13 And that is important information, because it is not enough to know that she was born in Stockholm. 2:18 I need to know which of these twenty, thirty, forty different parishes I can find her birth record in. 2:27 This database is so smart, so you don't need to know much to still be able to find the right one. 2:34 Let's just say I didn't know her married name. 2:37 I only had her name, Karin, born 1894. 2:41 a.m What happens then, if I press "search"? 2:43 1112, no, we can't search for that, we have to limit ourselves. 2:49 And then you can say 18940320, then I get 4 pieces. 2:57 And there she is! Karin Cecilia Sofia. 3:00 am Let's say I don't know when she was born either, but I know this about "Karin Cecilia Sofia". 3:08 Then I decide that's what I'm going to apply for. And I want all the names to be included, then I press "All" 3:16 a.m and only in this order, so. What then? 3:19 Yes, then there are two possible candidates. And there's grandma again. 3:24 This search menu has so much, and it's so completely useful. 3:31 You can search by profession/title, you can search by date of death, you can search by basically anything. 3:36 a.m Also at an address, so that you know where she lived when she died. 3:42 She lived on Furusundsgatan, I can enter that here and search for it. 3:45 Or I can limit my search to one country, yes Sweden, of course, 3:50 but a county, for example Skaraborg county, or Kronoberg county, 3:55 a municipality, perhaps Växjö municipality? Or congregation, in this case Oscar's congregation. 4:00 am Or landscape even. Because we have this thing with counties and provinces 4:06 Landscape is the old division of historical nature in Sweden, and the counties are a later invention. 4:14 Here there is also the possibility to limit the research male/female, let's say it's an Andersson 4:19 you are looking for, or a Johansson. Then you get far too many hits. 4:24 And then you can limit it by only having men, or women. 4:27 Or I just want unmarried people, or married people, or whatever information you have to start from. 4:33 This is amazingly good. You can also, if you don't know the spelling correctly, take for example "Lindkvist". 4:41 a.m How to spell "Lindkvist"? Yes, maybe like this. Lindkvist 4:46 a.m And then I get 6312 hits. But it could be that they spell with "qv" instead. 4:55 Then I'll add it. And marks that I want this too, and there are 31,043. 5:04 And then maybe they spell with Lind-qu-ist, so U in the middle there 5:09 And there it is again in 2008. So here it is then possible to pick out different spelling variants 5:17 thanks to this smart menu on the right. 5:20 And then we search, and then we get 40,150 hits. 5:26 And then I have to start limiting myself. I only want those whose first name is Ernst, for example. 5:31 Then I'm down to 295. And I know he was born in 1888, 5:37 and then it is only 6 and then it is possible to arrive at the right person. 5:42 These databases and personal registers are worth their weight in gold, because you often lose people when you do research. 5:49 They move somewhere, and then they're not there. And it can be very difficult to find your way back to them. 5:55 But Sweden's death book and these population records, Sweden's population in 1880, 1900, 1910, 6:03 Sweden's population in 1970, -80 and -90, they are very useful in many ways. 6:08 And then comes this warning finger. Please note that this is a secondary resource. 6:16 a.m It's not the original, this one. It is an aid, a register, a database. 6:22 Wonderful to have, but you must not trust the data. It may have gone wrong. 6:28 It may have been misspelled or misinterpreted by those who made these databases. 6:34 am So feel free to use them, but check each statement with the original source. 6:40 And the original source, that is the birth record, the marriage record and the death record. The three, that's where you should check each task 6:48 which you find in such a database, or personal register. 6:52 That said, don't be afraid to use them, they're great.

Tack för intressant information. Har en fråga: Kan man få reda på en persons dödsorsak?
Год назад
Tyvärr inte i Sveriges Dödbok, men den står ofta i originalkällan.

Hur får man tillgång till Dödboken? Köper man enskilda uppgifter eller hel programdata?
Год назад

Год назад
Ja, vår databas Sveriges Dödbok kostar 650 kronor att köpa som USB. Men den finns också hos många bibliotek som har släktforskningsdatorer, om du är nyfiken på att testa den.
