Great episode, but totally unjust ending. Did Talbot have the right to play God? No he didn't. But none of his victims were innocents. I find it hard to believe that any jury would have elected to give him the chair instead of life imprisonment. Especially considering there were a lot of disgusted folks in the court when the biker and the guy and his lover got off scot-free.
The cryptkeeper was a lot creepier in season 1, before they turned into the giant ham in the rest of the show's run, which was better in my opinion. That being said, this was a great way to start it, the irony of an executioner who ended up exactly like all those he executed.
this is a brilliant episode. I wish this would happen to some of the real corrupt governors, judges, prosecutors and jury members who allow real wrongful executions of innocent people to happen...and we all know they happen...just search up Larry Griffin and Jesse Tafero, there families need justice too
I would have thought they'd have shaved his head anyway, whether he liked it or not, regardless of how sure he was that the governor would spare his life. Would have been the more humane thing to do.
maybe the death penalty was put back in motion before he killed the couple. then it would make sense. he didnt find out it was out back in motion until he was caught
😎First saw Bill Sadler {the executioner here} in the 1996 Poltergeist: The Legacy as Shamus Bloom Episode: The Fifth Sepulcher wikipedia, he was a terrific antique store proprietor/demon.
I would have thought they'd have shaved his head anyway, whether he liked it or not, no matter how sure he was that the governor was going to call. Would have been the humane thing to do.
OJ Simpson, Michael Vick, and Casey Anthony would not want to encounter this guy. This episode seems to prove that when justice fails, someone prevails...taking justice into their own hands. So beware justice system! Unless you want to avoid any more tragedies, do your job right! While this guy should not have taken justice into his own hands, I don't feel sorry for any of his victims since they were all guilty and no telling if they were going to continue killing more victims unless they were stopped once and for all. I wonder how many times the justice system has failed so often.
I would have thought that they would have shaved his head anyway, whether he liked it or not, no matter how sure he was that the governor would call back. Would have been the humane thing to do.
@PentruRasaAlba I don't know if I'd go so far as to say they should have let him go, but he definitely didn't deserve to be 'juiced' as he put it. I find it hard to believe any jury would have given him the chair even if they did feel he went way too far. Did he have the right to take the law into his own hands? No. But none of his victims were innocent bystanders. The only way his death sentence would have been just is if one of his victims had actually been innocent.
@PentruRasaAlba I don't know if I'd go so far as to say he should have been freed, but IMO he definitely didn't deserve to get 'juiced' as he put it for killing a bunch of unrepentant scumbags. I know he didn't have the right to take the law into his own hands, but I find it very hard to believe he couldn't have found a jury who would have voted to give him life instead of the chair.
@2335dark Yeah, but often, Tales from the Crypt stories aren't so much about plausibility. I think you're right: In real life, Niles wouldn't have gotten death. But him rotting in prison for life doesn't jive with the signature EC Comics theme of Just Desserts. Instead, Niles is to get exactly what he dished out, he killed people in the chair, thus, like Charlie Ledbedder, the guy at the begining, Niles is dragged screaming to the chair himself, going out the way his victims did.
