Part 1
On October 7, 2023 Louisiana Spirits Southeast Chapter had the privilege of investigating the oldest documented plantation home in the lower Mississippi Valley. Owned by the same family from 1782 to 1910 and was left abandoned until 1971 when the River Road Historical Society received a donation to restore the plantation. With the largest slave revolt in history passing its front gates, it housed captives in its own wash house then held the largest trials on its own front lawn. During the Civil War Union troops seized the property which in turn becomes free man's colony with more than 2000 people utilizing the services of which 1/3 perished on the property.
