IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, THESE ARE PROBABLY THE ANSWERS - Who are these guys trying to copy Garry's mod? They are the same studios that developed Garry's mod (Facepunch), the game is being developed by garry (yes the one from garrry's mod) and his team. - What is s&box? (Answer taken from their website) This is our attempt to create a worthy Garry's Mod sequel. We've been playing with it for a long time. It started off on the Unreal Engine, but now it's being developed on Source 2. It's not going to be Garry's Mod 2. It will eclipse what is possible in Garry's Mod rather than simply be a modern version of it. We are taking Source 2 and using our knowledge of Source 1, Garry's Mod, Unity and Unreal Engine we're trying to create an intuitive, modern feeling game development enviroment where everything is moddable. Like Rust and Garry's Mod - we see this as a long term thing. Something for us to work on and improve every day for the next couple of decades. - Can i get s&box, is it free? No, the game is still in a development phase, so is not yet available to the public. The team is giving away some developer preview access to developers and few pepole through a sort of queue system on their site. The game is probably going to cost around the same as Gmod but this is pure speculation, (it could be free). - Why are they using rust pistol? The sandbox gamemode of s&box is still in development, (it's basically empty) it's preatty clear that they are planning on working on it later in development, so for now they are using rust pistol as a placeholder for every weapon. But why the rust pistol??? because the developer of s&box (facepuch) are the same developer of rust so they just used the pistol model that they already had. - Why s&box looks like lego duplo/soulless/bad? Part of the reason is actually that the game is a different game, so the atmosphere is different, the other part of the reason is that the map used in s&box is an unofficial port of gm_construct from gmod, so the atmosphere lights and textures are not great (this video is probably not the greatest showcase of s&box graphics). - Still s&box suck, gmod forever!!! I can agree that s&box has still some work to do, but we have to understand that the game is still in development so the comments and suggestions of the community can directly influence how the game will be. Making the development phase of a game available to the public is a double-edged sword, because on one hand it allows the team to keep the community updated on progress and get live feedback on the game, but on the other hand it can lead to the creation of a "bad" image of the game, given by the obvious presence of bugs and in general a non polished look. For this reason most of the videogames production houses usually try to keep the game as hidden as possible during the development phase.
@@SATADELUXE Developed by them but I guess they didn't want to reuse Valve assets again since they wanted the game to stand on its own instead of basically being like GMod.
@@vladimirchizhov3260 yup, the facial animations if the source engine, to me, are still incredible. I can't even imagine how good they looked to people when the game came out in 2004
I don't know how but they actually managed to make the default pistol even less satisfying to use than the HL2 USP and that one feels like a damn peashooter.
@@exxe.n we gotta remeber both are running on source but one is running on the 2004s half life 2 release and one is running on one that came out very recently
@@vepply The devs also said theres gonna be 0 mod support and the game is gonna be similar to roblox where you just make gamemodes and people can just join emif you want to add a "mod" you need to create a whole new gamemode and then bring the code from the one gamemode to the other
S&Box is going into the right path at least on water physics, just add some splash and a few effects and they are gonna nail it. But as a programmer I do believe those effects would be a pain to develop
Gmod have a biger community so with some mod we can add that and if something is missing we can add it s&box can't do all thing gmod community can. At this moment Gmod still beter and have server on it sooo yeah Gmod alway beter
@@alahsiaboi8909 dude why is it whenever someone shares an opinion on the current thing they are looking at you morons appear stating the obvious. we know its not a finished product but we are commenting on what we see here and now. plus to be honest i dont care if its not finished or not because of the amount of games that claim that yet on full release have the exact same issues or animation. im not just gonna take peoples word for it.
eh I think it has its own style, the playermodels look quite good with actual clothing items (yes I’m talking about mr thumb man) it’s definitely shaping up to be way better than gmod This video just does not show off the actually good aspects of s&box, I mean the map is a lazy looking recreation of construct
Just gonna say this: the player models are clearly like that because the simplicity of the base models makes it easier to playtest and do whatever else needs to be done, also I dislike how everyone is talking like everything S&Box has atm is the end all be all for the entirety of it's existance and isn't basically going to be the so very easily modable game to exist like It's predecessor. So even if you don't like the base player models guess what? You can just look up a steam workshop mod for more pms' that are more to your liking. Last thing I wanna say is S&Box is nowhere close to being full release. Just like how gmod had early alpha versions of itself like gmod 9.
@@kevindelacruz4127 first: default stuff it's literally foundation of the game. Mods usually use it as a foundation. Imagine how many of mods will be oriented around that ugly guy because there's isn't official good pm? Not even talking about s&box literally being fancier roblox, not the gmod.
@@shawermus the game is being build from the ground up specifically to be "SUPER" mod compatible, even more so then gmod... and your telling me that because you don't like the playermodel that can easily be changed that it is still bad because people will make alterations of it... well here is a small thought for you pal. PEOPLE WOULDINT MAKE THE MODLES FOR THOSE CHARECTORES UNLESS THEY LIKED THEM... I'm sorry that you don't like them, but sitting here complaining that people will make models of things they like is actual brain rot.
It's definetly very rough at the moment but considering it's still super early on in development things are looking kind of promissing for the future. I hope they won't go through with those playermodels from when we first got our inicial glimpses at the game though, those were just wretched.
YES! I can see what they're trying to do with like making an iconic character design like Steve or Roblox models but the way they executed it is horrendous. I'm not against the universal character design but they should really rethink it. Personally a player model system like vr chat would fit perfectly in s&box, but I can also see that getting out of hand as well as being a nightmare to develop.
I'm sure the community will port textures models and weapons at some point. Since source 2 doesn't come with all of that stuff right out of the box, I think Facepunch would need authorization from valve to use old source game assets, even if they do have that permission I'd imagine porting them into S2 isn't a top priority with development at the moment. But I agree and hopefully they can bring that nostalgic feel back!
I feel like that's a mentality thing. You know what gmod is and what to expect of it and when you see it differently, even if it's not bad, you will feel like it's wrong. I feel like if you've never seen gmod or knew what to expect from it, it would be better.
@@redtheyiffer did u see the main character of s@box? or even the ground textures? i have the same exact standards for ALL games, not just sequels to ones ive played before. i would not play s@box ESPECIALLY if i never played garry's mod
When people say s&box is soulless, what they mean is that you don't spawn in as Dr. Kleiner with a physgun in your midsection. But really, what made Gmod so good for me was the lore. I hate to say this but I downloaded a copy of Gmod 9 from a friend back when I was a kid. I had no idea about the lore behind HL2 and seeing all these peculiar characters pretty much made me crazy about it. Downloading addons from the website, and booting them up just to see the amount of script errors, missing textures, and models that would accumulate only made me love it more. Back in the day I was running Windows Vista and my game would crash if I tried to spawn in 30 zombies. Good times. I think what it was, was the infinite possibilities surrounding Gmod is what made fans love it, especially around that era. I had no clue on how to play the game or build or script. Just the freedom of being able to spawn anything in and mess about was good enough for me. Here I am, 15 years later having the wonderful experience of beating every Half Life main title, developing my own personal addons, and maintaining my own personal server. It really grew with me. Hard sell for me on the s&box game. When people say it looks soulless it's because it lacks the same mystery.
@Alfi No, it's not even any better. It's just missing that charm. Fancier sun and blender water physics doesn't mean better graphics, just looks like a Minecraft shaders.
S&box is literally still in its early days, of course gmod is better right now due to having all these mods and having all of that nostalgia and stuff. Gmod is an established game and S&box isn’t. However, I will be excited to see how S&box will develop over the next coming years.
I really hope we can import the old source models into S&box because I don't think I could live with not being able to play as model 07 in the sequel to garrys mod when we was basically the poster boy for that
(altho year late, things may change already) honestly after looking at CS2's Source 2 water, yeah S&Box still has a way to go from looking at this, but yeah it do have some nice qualities to it still
@@Northwest_Territories Given the sound quality, those feel fairly final, and they're not as good as Gmod's. And usually if something feels like it has less soul than its predecessor in development, that stays in the final product.
@@burnttoast26 gmod is shit nowadays, the game is almost entirely single threaded so fancy new CPUs barely increase performance so S&Box feels a LOT better to play than gmod because of that. Its hard to make addons that dont feel like jank because of how limited Source engine is cus its so old. It takes years to download all of the addons that you need to even join a new server, not to mention all of the disconnection issues once you do actually join. All of the addons added conflict a lot of the times, and we still get pink and black boxes even if you spend all the time downloading the stupid mods that you need to finally join a server. GMOD IS FUCKING SHIT NOW WE NEED A NEW GAME.
It may not seem impressive but facepunch basically had to rebuild the Source 2 engine from a very barebones state. Mark my words, by the time s&box ships (God knows when that'll be) the visual and graphical upgrades will be a worthy successor to the Source engine! It just sucks that it will be more akin to Roblox or other community dev games then Gmod, however, I do feel like it's for the greater good.
it's realistic enough, but what would be cooler is if it could be grabbed a bit of with a bucket, or if you could push water out of the pond (in s&box)
With guns it's important to pay attention to sound design. Not only is there the pinch of the bullet, but the hardness of the slide, the casings flying out and hitting the floor, smacking the magazine in, and the internals over all. The shot also, of course, needs to actually be loud and have bass to it.
Gmod to me will always be better because the community has been building since 2004 and has so many mods to make it more advanced than some newer games! The only thing lacking is the lower quality textures but to be fair thats 2004 for ya. Gmod is my safe space amd always will be because it can be whatever I want it to be
@@DmitryG1488 how about you touch some grass sense you wanna sit on the internet nitpicking on the most littlest shit like a comment saying "with the grenade launcher of smg" Anyways just go outside and get some fresh air like im doing sense it bothers you so much asshole
I think if the water ripple effect was implemented into the existing gmod water it would make the water a lot better. But I still love the original gmod water, I like the ripple effect but the gmod water still looks the best
It actually makes more sense to have that ripple effect in gmod since when a bullet hits water that’s a real effect that happens it’s bad in S&box since it’s just a weird ripple effect making it less realistic.
The s&box graphics are way better for that GMod has more realism towards with guns mechanic (NOT DESIGN!!!) Edit: GMod is better though because of the time it was created.
s&box im gonna guess is gonna fail, cus gmod had it's own unique style of jank and content in it while s&box has no base game (not talking about engine)
Imagine, S&Box only started less than two years ago but it already looks a lot like a complete game and of course, it has already equaled or surpassed the already legendary Gmod in some things. And it's just beginning.
Gmod has been around for over a decade. Of course its going to have technological leaps. Its not hard to top source 1’s water physics (unless you’re cdpr or ubisoft). Not hating on the game or anything but i’d like to be real with myself.
@@SnrubSource i mean… who would though? They already take a bit of percentage for hosting games on steam, why would you forfeit more when you can just make your own or even better, have people make them for you (which is what s&box is probably going to do as its a gamemode maker not a game.)
For the angry 9 year old Gmod fans, this isn't a complete sequel of Gmod, just based on it, but more improvements. It won't feel like a valve game because they are making their own assets. It doesn't matter anyway, do people really cared about the hl2 assets? And even then, there's allot of remade hl2 assets and even hla assets to s&box (there's an entire steam pages for it)
I wonder how many people realize a lot of the criticisms of the game as of now (like the Physgun, it's literally a placeholder) aren't too valid except the default character thing
The shader does not look anywhere better, lol. Neither submerged nor the surface. I'm wondering if Garry tried writing or applying a shader on his own or something. Because to me that looks eerily similar to the water surface demo in OGRE3D and NVIDIA demos from 13 years ago. Actually no, the water tessellation demo from NVIDIA looks better, but that might be due to specific shader properties.
