In this post, I am telling the truth as to why Karate is the laughing stock of the Martial arts today. It is because of the very people it was WATERED down for! Some people will be offended, those who want the truth will not be.
thank you for saying this. I studied from an old school Okinawan back when I grew up in the islands. when I did Shotokan in a nice, clean Chicago suburb, they were surprise that they took way more damage than I did when they were attacking and I was blocking. I never competed in the islands, mostly due to balance issues which I constantly work on - so I would never consider myself "tough" in anyway, but yet for some reason the island's training apparently prepared me to keep up with these guys. and it was like you said. the burbs had real bouncy mats, medicine balls of all sorts, air conditioning, games that had no connection to martial arts, and pillows on a stick you can block. the island just had a concrete building, stiff mats, a couple mirrors, a heavy bag, and a few striking boards. and you also right about the whole tuition thing, too. Our teacher in the islands had a job, so he didn't need or bug us for payments.
...I can relate (I'm a 61 year-old guy living in Korea, who trained in the 60's under Steven Armstrong and then in the 70's under Morio Higaonna in Japan).
always keeping it real. so much in America has become watered down. it is easy to say something does not work when one themselves is a bad practitioner or around others who are. good video
Thank you teacher you really make things logical. What's your advice on mastering defense? I currently take kick boxing and boxing been doing the classes for four months. I have a sparring partner and I'm trying to work on my defense such as head movement,, bob weave , ducking and reaction timing. How do you work on defense in sparring? Thank you and continue the great work.
True! Thompson used maybe some of what people will want to say is a bit of boxing. But, they cannot say there was any Muay thai! It WAS KARATE! I applaud his ability and desire to use karate as his vehicle to success.
Great video man very eye opening I learn so much from your videos and 100% truth live in the uk and I know this Nigerian guy and it's like he's super human strong as an ox and fast as a cat very strict and dosent give belts to anyone and all of his students are athletic from head to toe I also know another African guy who just the same and when I compere these guys to many of the watered down guys it shows by a mile who's real and whose not a completely different breed I tell you.
I speak in general terms as MOST people know you have to. Go to any KYOKUSHIN karate school in AMERICA and you will see their black belts showing breaking techniques that are mind boggling! Go to a KUNG FU or MUAY THAI school in AMERICA and TELL me where you see 3 bats broken with the shins! 13 ice slabs crashed through! My point was clear.
