I gave up SMTVV and Shadow of Erdtree time for this. It was worth it. P.S. Thank you to Gold for believing in me with this video. IYKYK #anime #actionanime
They released a remastered two part movie which covered the entire show back in 2011. Was great because new scenes were added, but the remaster made things a bit blurry.
Samurai champloo fundamentally changed my taste in music as a kid/teen. I play Nujabes' (RIP) and others music to this day and don't plan on stopping at all.
I love S-Cry-Ed. I remember watching S-Cry-Ed on adult swim as a kid. I think at one point they even aired all the episodes back to back on a weekend. Reckless fire is peak.
todays anime just doesnt give me the same feeling as older anime. the character motions do look better now but i just love how detailed the worlds are in older anime.
Probably THE most overlooked AND underrated animes of the last 2 decades. I absolutely loved this anime. Multiple times I had to rewatch this anime for it's lore and it's opening and it's characters Kazuma and Ryu-Oh teetering on which was my favorite each episode. 🎉
I remember feeling very okay about kazuma and ryuho's deterioration concluding offscreen. As a kid I remember feleing sad, knowing they were going to die young. So when the show ended with the two looking rough, but alive...I was pretty okay with that. I knew how they were gonna likely pass on. Thanks for covering the show. I might just break open the box set again sometime before the year ends.
I didn’t see that a deteriorating but at they were becoming something like that crystalization of altar considering kazuma looked like his altar was starting to replace his body
What you missed, but touched upon, is about Cougar being Kazuma's older brother. Cougar's perspective on life is not that different from Kazuma's, because Cougar did more than teach Kazuma how to fight. When you realize that Kazuma emulated Cougar's attacks, because Kazuma and Cougar share attack names (Shocking First Bullet). From the scene you depict of Cougar using speed to blow a hole in the wall, is no different from Kazuma's punch through a wall. Cougar and Kazuma choose to live their life to the fullest without regrets, they just have different means to get there, even if those means would produce the same results. Punch or speed, they'll get through the wall. Ignoring the retcons from the movies, your complaint about how they don't resolve Kazuma's plot about his body falling apart is actually addressed in the series. Just like how Cougar dies, Kazuma also eventually dies; I know it is "ambiguous", but it only makes sense for them to not survive. Live fast, punch hard, and die early. The message of the anime was literally to live and die without regrets, no matter the means, because consequences be damned.
I saw this anime when I was a kid in the early 2000 and never remembered the name of it I’ve been looking for it ever since and now my search is over thanks for putting up this video I’m about to binge this one
I remember stumbling on this randomly on Adult swim. INSTANTLY became one of my favorites for all the reasons you mentioned. Story, characters, Opening and close songs, soundtrack, the whole package. I recommended it to my friends and they loved it too. I can’t believe this was an anime without a manga before it’s so good. I’m not even a Manga guy myself. Only thing i don’t agree with is the negatives you mentioned but man what a good summary. I think I may rewatch this very soon.
Dude i was so happy to see this!!! This series has needed more attention. Awesome story and one of the most interesting, deep, and complex power systems of all time.
Bro. I still have my DVD collection of this show and fire it up occasionally. This era of anime was really interesting in Sunrise's history. Great video.
Thank you for this video, ive been trying to remember the name of this anime for YEARS and had no idea how to search for it. This anime had one of if not the best anime rivalries. I gave up trying to find this anime again and just stubble upon your thumbnail.
this show had everything and still have everything. Great story and music along with art style that just made it all the better. The cast all had something to add to the story and how it progressed even the smallest parts they played made it all come together. It had funny and heartwarming moments and all very dark and depressing moments. I still vividly remember straight cougar and what his ability did to the world and how it eventually was part of the reason he died. I remember how hard Kimishina dying hit Kazuma along with his love interest dying in his arms while it rained. With ryuho him slowly realizing what he was part of was going to kill him and him losing his father and then shrice sacrificing herself to heal him and her giving him a kiss she was longing for. And the music my god the music for this show hit different since it wasnt the typical sounds anime has it had instruments and it had feeling in each song chosen for it. This one of the very few anime i have purchased the hard copy of the ost just because of how good it is. The opening and closing songs along with the songs included in some episodes are iconic because again not something you heard in anime back then and even now. The only anime that has even come close to having one song that is just as unique is Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry Iirc the intro outro was sung by same singer ide yasuaki. He mixed in hispanic music sound and added his own japanese flare to to make ti so damn unique that again not something you find everyday if at all I have very fond memories of this anime from my early teen years that i still go back and watch it all the way through at least once a year and it never gets boring. I always tell people to watch anime if they want something good and that is old but still hits hard. Easily in my top 5 anime. Sadly not many people remember this show from adult swim
Thank you for making a review of this show I have insane nostalgia checking out the series at the library and binge watching it in 2 days with my sibling straight cougar is hands down the man
I felt like I was only one that watched this show on adult swim. It gave me phantom dust vibes when first watched it and still does. Show was definitely one of a kind
Bro idk if u are aware but they made a condensed two movie special of the series with updated animation, art improvements and new clips. Its really well done and the ending is incredible! Totally for the fans
I was hoping you would mention the stark contrast in their powers and how it reflects on their relationship with being an alter. One is literally part of his body, the fist he uses to enact his will as one and the other, externalized, controlled and separate from himself. I agree though underrated, it was overshadowed by many other anime during that time.
I think that the deterioration by the end was actually their bodies becoming their alters then ending up like the crystallization of altar because in the final episode kazuma hand was made out of altar but neither was eye open nor did his hair spike up
10/10 video for a 7/10 anime 😂 I gotta go rewatch it now and start my own rewrite. From what I remember, it's about Anarchy in the face of a society where laws meant to protect are also used as justification for personal violence.
Kazu...maaaaaaa! Ryuhoooooo! Damn loved this show especially how at the end you find out that Kazuma had a older brother. Named Straight Couger with his own bullets lol
