@Mrinal vai, God bless you. That was our Burman Dada, who was calm and composed in spite of having created magic. Please read my reply to Mayank Nikunj regarding comments by Javed Akhtar on the lori 'Nanhi kali'.

@@lalwanimoti Sir, yes no doubt, even RD Burman has influenced me a lot since my childhood and he is my most favorite, but yet I take pride in saying that there is no such music composer as SD Dada, and this is the truth
@lalwanimoti
@lalwanimoti 3 года назад
@@thechief197 Who gave training to RD? RD used to escape from the training by his father. There were so many accomplished music directors in our Golden Period of our music like Naushad, S-J, Madan Mohan, C. Ramchandra among others. None of their children could become accomplished like their father. RD too was no where near his father. SD was the only one in demand till his last days. Whatever I write is backed up by proof with me.

@@lalwanimotiSir It is true that if SD Burman was not there, RD would never have become such a talented musician, RD also used Dada's melodies time to time, also RD is the only lucky composer whose song sang by Dada Burman. Dada also used to give advice to RD sometimes, like in "Raina beet jaye" the song was supposed to start directly with the music, Dada told RD to start with a alap, and this alap makes the song just perfect to the situation in film., as Rajesh Khanna's steps stop only after hearing the alap and he gets pulled towards that voice. This incident was told to me by Kancha Dada. It's true there is no genius like Dada Burman who understood every character every situation from within

@@thechief197 'Raina beeti jaaye' tune is copied from 'Bela boye jaye', one of Burman Dada's own compositions. Listen in RD's own words in a program ‘Phool Khile Gulshan Gulshan’ by Tabassum: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-plmGvWxpx-M.html He reveals this anecdote at around 8:10 minutes in the interview Burman Dada had left behind a lot of his tunes recorded in audio tape to use in future by RDB. If you have a Bangla friend show him my RU-vid upload 'S.D. Burman Biography by Girindra Majumdar - Part IV'. It has had 3.77 lakhs views so far. The RU-vid link is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QylmJS14KPo.html Dada used to worry about RD's downfall, which ultimately happened. But for 1942 - A LOVE STORY, RD would have died unsung failure who copied western music. If you have not seen Vidhu Vinod Chopra interviews on RU-vid, please see them. Vidhu has gone on record about RD's downfall, te initial music composed by RD which Vidhu called 'Shit, bullshit' RD ultimately using his father's tune and finally followed father's advised. Unfortunately, he did not live to see it.

@@gagankscholar ‘Yeh mehlon, yeh takhton, yeh taajon ki duniya’ - Pyaasa (1957) 'Yeh mehlo, yeh takhyon, ye taajo ki duniyaa' from Pyaasa composed by SD Burman, analysed by our brilliant Bollywood composer Pranaay Rijia: While creating a tune, use of rhythm instruments is not very important, as we compose on a guitar, harmonium, etc. But, while recording a song, rhythm instruments are the second most important factor after the voice. Similarly, when we mix a song, the voice is the loudest and rhythm instruments are the second loudest. The rhythm pattern can make or break a song, in my opinion. The song was recorded with no rhythm instruments by Burman Dada, the same way western classical orchestra would play their music. The song was effective without using the rhythm instruments, because the orchestration was written in that manner. It has an inherent rhythm, but no rhythm instruments. I heard the song again. And the meter of the writing is perfect. Perfectionists like SDB would not accept wrong meter at all. The song is in ¾ time signature tune. As SDB has not used any rhythm instruments, the double bass gives the ‘sum’ … that is, the 1st beat of the 3 beat cycle. It is orchestrated using western classical techniques, where composers never used a percussion instrument. Rhythmic pattern is given by double bass and violins. Since this is a sad song, about a broken and disillusioned man, SDB was very smart not to use any percussion, the way that one would in operas. Since the master was at work here…this sad song is closest to the real human emotion of sadness and disillusionment. The best part is picturisation, when the guards take Guru Dutt away, the melody is sung in higher octave and there are piano runs in the background, showing the character’s desperation. Pure brilliance… The tune was created on Sahir's words and not the other way round, SDB did a great job. Both are stalwarts. SDB being the master; must not have budged at all. He simply used his immense talent and created the tune without going back to Sahir for corrections. The song is free flowing...There are no sections, like mukhda, cross, chorus, antara. This means that it was composed on the poetry. I would give credit to SDB for making the tune sit so well that we as listeners didn’t feel any difference. I am sure he must have played with the words. In the end ’Jalado, ise phoonk daalo, yeh duniya’ is sung and then repeated with an extra ‘jalado’ the second time, ’JALAADO , JALAADO , JALAADO , SDB must have repeated the words for the dramatic effect. So, I still maintain that SDB and Sahir must not have sat together. The lyrics were set to music in proper meter by SDB. Even the extra ‘JALAADO’ was sung for 1 bar (in 3/4 time signature). 'Nanhi kali sone chali Hawa dheere aana' is a prime example of maximum effect from minimum music. Geeta Dutt would've had a hard time concealing her breath due to such subtle music!

@lalwanimoti 3 года назад
@Mayank Nikunj, You have reminded me of the most soothing lori ever in the Hindi films. Please read what Jave Akhtar has said about 'Nanhi kali': Javed Akhtar: “Ek taraf to itni purkaari aur itni intricacy, aur doosri taraf dekhiye jab master (SD Burman), simple hone ki baat sochta hai to kya karta hai. Bahut si loriyaan maine aisi suni hain, aur badi popular bhi hui, ki mujhe aisa laga ki maa agar bache ko lori sunaaye, to pehle to kam-se-kam teen saal classical sangeet seekhe, tab yeh lori ga sakti hai, usmein itni meend, itni mudkiyaan, itni harkaten (hain)! Lekin yeh dekhiye, yeh music director (SD Burman) jo kisi bhi tarah ka gaana bana sakta tha, jab ek lori bana raha hai ‘Sujata’ ki, ‘Nanhi kali sone chali, hawa dheere aana’, itne limited notes pe hai, itni simplicity ke saath hai, chaahe uska mukhda, chaahe uska antara. Yeh ek master (wizard) hi kar sakta hai! Jise apne fun (art) pe poora control aur confidence ho, ki ‘Itna kaafi hai’. Aur, ‘Yeh itna kaafi hai’ ka jo yakeen tha, woh aapko SD Burman mein bahut jagah milta hai.” (Source: ZEE CINEMA - Classic Legends)

@Mayank Nikunj, You have made a very good observation, 'Geeta Dutt would've had a hard time concealing her breath due to such subtle music!' The genius that SD Burman was, he would have explained to Geeta how to breathe while singing so perfectly. In Insan Jaag Utha (1959) there is a song, 'Jaanu, jaanu re' sung by Asha and Geeta. Both had to sing while giggling away. This is what Asha has said about it: “Achcha, hasna bhi unhonein (Dada Burman) gaane mein… pehli baar maine unke paas gaaya. Shayad film mein hasne ka aisa aaya nahin tha. Aapko yaad hoga, ‘Janu janu re, kaahe khanke hai tora kangana’. Hai na usmein? (Giggles) ‘Haan haan haan haan’ (takes a deep breath in). (Sings) ‘Main bhi jaanu re, kaahe khanke hai tora kangana’ To, yeh hansne ka tha…, hanske saans lena. Hamesha hanske aadmi saans lete hai, kyonki hawa bahar nikal rahi hai na. Yeh sab unhonein tab yeh kiya tha…, bataaya tha. Uske baad sab gaanon mein aane laga woh hansne ka. Lekin Dada kuch nayi-nayi cheez sochte the.” Song played, ‘Jaanu jaanu re, kaahe khanke hai tora angana’ (Insan Jag Utha - 1959) (Asha Bhosle in an interview with Ameen Sayani)

@Rohit Kr. Please ask those if they have any proof. Don't believe gossip. Jaivdev parted ways with Navketan with last film Hum Dono with a condition that all the songs of Hum Dono will be pre-approved by SD Burman. Pancham too did not compose any song of father SD Burman, on the contrary copied his father's tune saying 'Baap ka maal', making a joke of it. Dada was a highly accomplished composer who was better than the best in all genres of music. To stop this gossip I took these interviews so that our younger generation is not misled by gossip. Please see all the interviews.
