The railway is just about to close forever, and everyone is behaving normally! Perhaps none could really believe that the Hour had come... at last.....
Billboard at the end say 'Woody Herman' at the Winter Gardens, Bournemouth. Wonderful if only now. They demolished this lovely entertainment centre. Thank you for preserving this incredible piece of railway history still remembered by many in the area.
Many Thanks! Can't believe popularity of the video, but pleased to show this side of the S&D. This was one of the occasions where I was working alone, running both camera and sound recorder. Best Wishes, Philip
Thanks Ron. I can imagine how you feel out there! I have a memory too - of your Train No. 1 across Canada! In Winter at that. Stupendous. Best Wishes, Philip
I loved that railway and I lived, worked, studied and holidayed all along the line. Before I left the area I lived at Blandford and took the dog for long walks from the Stour Bridge up the formation towards Stourpaine.
Anyone remember the old postal depot ,knocked down in the 90s and the Wilberforce hotel in the background in the Bournemouth station scenes ? Apparently the Wilberforce was a right dive, though l never went in it ! Now the site of the Texaco garage on Holdenhurst road !
Two of my Bournemouth workmates, Pete Guy and Aubrey Punter worked over that route including the Evening Star. Templecombe not recognisable now apart from the closed signalbox. Stopped here many a time driving a 159.
Thanks Laurie. I imagine that was because I had to keep some footage on the borrowed (from Ken) camera for Bournemouth. Even then I had problems........! Best Wishes, Philip
