As a current dishwasher, same. I'm lucky in that we have a "dont ask for a break" policy. We all know when the best time for each station is to take a breather, so far nobody's abused it
@Alcaste the restaurant I worked at left breaks up to me, but if there were dishes, I was expected to be washing them. So, if it was slow, I would get a lot of breaks. If we were slammed, I didn't. We also had a weekly checklist of things we needed to clean, so we had to factor those into our slow times. Of course, sometimes I just checked the paper without actually doing it because I was feeling lazy
As long as those dishes get cleaned, you're a free man. I would come in early, clean up the dishes from prep and then spend the next hour outside smoking. Come back in, clear the pit then use the bathroom for another 30. The perks of working the job no one else wants
Just got off a 8 hour shift and our dishwasher was sitting at a table for about 6 of the hours I was there 😂 but he kept the pit clear so nobody would dare complain. He’s actually one of the best guys there, super funny and nice.
They'd have me help prep veggies and shit or make dressings, or put salads together when I had my shit done. I ended up running back and forth when they needed a dessert/salad builder
Rule #1 of every restaurant ever: keep the dishwasher happy. If they're good, that goes double. They want a steak, they get a steak. They disappear for 20 minutes, you say nothing. A good dishwasher is worth their weight in gold.
Feel like this is something my boss needs to hear. Assumes I'm easily replaced despite showing time and time again that im the best theyve had in that place, that much I've been told and have clearly seen when I can do a far better job than anyone else on that site, my boss just thinks all the staff are expendable, with exception of the managers, cause of course those idiots are invaluable
@@scottsimpson5398 Tends to happen to places with a fairly high turnover (which most restaurants tend to be for various reasons.) The boss just gets too used to people leaving that they want to get as much out of people working for them as possible (ironically further increasing the turnover rate.) Such bosses need to be careful with managers though because they both train newcomers and mean the difference between being able to spend less time at the restaurant and having to spend more time working at the restaurant. As you pointed out, it's a very flawed perspective and could cost them what are otherwise really good employees, but not many bosses are as concerned about maintaining good relations with their talent as they should be 🤔
@@scottsimpson5398 bro no workplace will openly allow you to slack off. You just have to start doing it. Slowly. And you slack off a bit more and more as time passes to test if they react. If they react, you take it back a notch but after some time you start pushing it again. Verbal warnings are nothing. You only draw a line once punishments would start coming if you kept the pushing
The boss makes a dollar, I make a dime That was a poem From a simpler time Now his boss makes 1000 While I make a cent And he's got employees That can't make the rent When the CEO makes a million And we don't make jack That's when we riot To take it all back Now Mr investor If this seems extreme I have to remind you It beats guillotines
@@goldenerkeseForreal. I worked with a great one for a couple years and whenever I go back I buy him a 6 pack for the end of his shift at the bar. Hardest working most underpaid man I’ve ever met. Always did good by me so I always try to do good by him.
@@goldenerkese bro we were fucking around so much back then, or sometimes I just watched a damn movie while I was washing dishes. They were always gonna be there till closing. So I always just priotized what they'd need the most.
As a dishwasher this is true. Bosses let you manage ur own breaks as long as u show up to work on time, keep to your schedule, and put in hard work. That applies to short breathers, bathroom breaks, and ur lunch. As long as u keep the dishes and utensils stocked they don’t care.
Yeah sometimes even at the supermarket I work at, of it's really down to the wire, they let me go for a quick smoke cos otherwise I might get a tad grumpy, especially if it's slammed and understaffed. They know better than to make me inpersonable. It's rare but, as a cashier/bagger fending off a horde sometimes by my lonesome... Yeah they know I need a moment to breathe. And restrict my access thereof ironically.
Yep. The new hotel I work at, about an hour before close right before the last wave of dishes from the line, these Mexican guys go get blazed out of their fucking gourd for like 45 minutes 😂😂😂 they crack me up.
What made me start smoking to begin with. Worked in a convenient store at one point. Only break I can take is a smoke break. Never got normal breaks and we often had to eat while we worked.
As someone who recently quit (5 weeks tobacco free), I have a hard time knowing what to do on my breaks now. Sometimes I forget to take them. They leave it up to us as to when we take them, so now I set a notification.
You dont know what a chain smoker is do you? When I was 8 I saw a man light a ciggarette with the still glowing butt of his previous ciggarrette. Thats a chain smoker. Dude smoked 4 packs a day. Im prettt sure I got lung cancer just from witnessing that.
It’s amazing to me how everyone of your characters “look” different! You embody the character so well you disappear and the characters appear. Great job. And having spent way too many years in food service this entire series is exactly what it’s like. Good job
i mean, it is true that i already suffer at work, but working with a headache makes me want to shoot myself so i prefer to take it slow lmao it depends on what kind of job you have though... i work fast food
I wish I could do that (Not really but let's pretend I do) But I think I'd have to save a lot more drowning children I'd I was hungover and it'd be a lot more unpleasant
Lmaooo. I used to make sure to do that. Cause if I nursed a hangover at home I swear it was waaayyy worse. If I had to work thru it at least the day went by fast and I still got paid rather than waste an entire wallowing in my sorrows and sitting down in the shower 😂
Pissing of dishpit is the easiest way to fuck your entire kitchen for the night, the first time you walk out for being disrespected by a coworker will be the last time the rest of your crew lets that coworker treat you like that.
Nothing hurts my soul more than when I see someone use their unpaid breaks to use the bathroom... This comment section has become a place to share our workplace bathroom habits apparently and I'm here for it. Don't ever let the man tell you when to take a dump, that's your last shred of freedom.
Same. I honestly was told to use it on my break. Nope I work my ass off. My break is to grab a bite and go outside to enjoy a smoke. This is what I tell bosses. "I am not going to use the bathroom as a break nor am I using my break for the bathroom." I have had bosses try to tell me I could not go. I just laughed at them like yeah seriously try stopping me.
Working wireless retail me and all the sales people had an app called Poop Bank that basically kept track of how long you spent in the bathroom on the clock and would show you how much money you made shitting on the companies dime. It quickly turned into a competition. Shortly after that turned into a store meeting and district wide email.
Haha that's me I show up at the same time everyday shut on company time and have worked there for about 2 years make hot choclates on company time it's just the best way
Reminds me of my old nurse manager. He would come in every day, newspaper under one arm, an empty coffee in his hand, and make a bee line for our “hidden” employees only restroom. You could set your watch by it. He finally stopped one day when one of our poor coworkers had the misfortune of walking in on him. Maintenance had been doing some work in the area and I guess the lock wasn’t working. She was one of our newer nursing assistants and didn’t know his routine. We were at the nurses station when all of a sudden we heard some yelling and a door slam. Bless her heart she said when she walked in he had his shirt pulled up mid-chest and everything! I guess he forgot to take his stool softener that day or he had some mean Mexican food the night before. Regardless, both of them seemed pretty traumatized but the rest of us got a good laugh bc the guy was kind of an a-hole. 😂🤦🏻♀️🤣
@@giantturd5157 true that. But leaving with 200 or 300 USD beats out minimum wage in most states. Plus I don't have to pay taxes on most of it. As an hourly employee, you don't have a choice
I did the same thing at Walmart for almost a year only I took an hour at the start of shift because my buddy was the custodian so he'd run in to give it a good clean right before I started my shift. Some other employees and a jackarse manager had an issue until I said it was IBS and I never heard anything else about it. 1 hour a day, 5 days a week, for 11 months. Eff you Walmart. My wrist is still all messed up from their overloaded pallets
I don’t know what’s worse being a full time dishwasher rigidly pooping on the clock everyday at work or counting up the hours someone you work with has pooped over his entire history of working on company time🤢🤮💩
I mean, counting up the hours isn't that difficult if you assume certain averages, like how Brad was working under the assumption that it was about 30 minutes a day, from there you could say 5 or so days a week, 52 weeks a year, multiply by how long he's worked there and then get your answer. Brad has shown he's the type that's good with numbers and so multiplying that all out isn't too bad, though I don't think Brad used the numbers I brought up, I just mean if a person were to ever do it themselves, it's really not that bad 🤷
The more of these I see, the more I appreciate his skill. Each character has a unique personality, and he followed through with them all so well. Very natural conversation editing. Great work. 👍🏼
The cooks and one of the managers I worked with always had to "go to the bathroom" when they didn't want to deal with whatever was going on at the moment
That's what I do, even though I don't work anymore. I have enough of my family or friends, I say I got to go. I just lock the bathroom and sit on edge of tub or a chair.
Honestly if a dishwasher makes it past 1yr, they're literally entitled to their own rules. I've noticed that most places I work. No one wants to lose a good dishwasher. So after about 8 months to a year, give en slack and earn their respect
You don’t wanna know the things I’ve seen my boy Jerry do, 19 year dishwasher at the same restaurant. I saw him 😂 sexually assaulting a lot of people, mostly men 😂 according to him it’s how you treat the cooks. 😂
I just poop for that long. Like I sit, immediately go some, and then just stay seated for a few minutes and keep going for like 10-15 mins with small breaks in between. And then there’s clean up 😂 I do eat a plant based diet, and as someone who has eaten a regular diet as well…plant poops hit different.
My son started out as a dishwasher In the restaurant he's now a lead cook in and he is ALWAYS 30 min early for his shift because he realized early on that absolutely no one noticed he did or if they did they didn't care that he's been clocking in 30 min early so he's been getting an extra 2.5 hrs a week since he started almost 2 years ago! I'm going to send him this video ❤️
i never did either, not even 30 seconds later my hands were balls deep in a sink filled with soap. The only time i washed my hands every other minute was when i handled food
I've been a server for 20 years. And I hate when I see acquaintances and ask me: Are you STILL serving?? Well, some of us happen to love what we do. The dishwasher at my place loves listening and writing podcasts so washing dishes is perfect for him
@@MidnightSunshine27 I see where you're coming from but for me I'm always looking to move up, and it's not because I want more money but because don't want to be bossed around anymore. Then again I've been the boss before and it suuuuuuuuuuuucked so now I'm just doing my own thing, no bosses, just making money my own way.
As an autist who is a bit slow of a worker i couldn't do this. I was in that pit the whole time scrambling. I respect the dishwashers who could get any form of break.
That's why washing dishes and trash duty are my favorite jobs, managers are too busy to care, and as long as you get it done in the end they'll never care
