Does lower tuning and slower tempo equal a heavier sound? Several bands play in Drop A, Drop G, Open C or any exotic tuning to get the chug out of their instrument. In Djent it's mostly common to have a very low tuned guitar for the brutal sound. But what if we take e.g. ' Laid To Rest ' by Lamb Of God and drop tune it down step by step plus decreasing the speed? Will a low tuning automatically make it sound even heavier than it already is? Tune low chug slow? Let's find it out! How does this work? How to downtune a guitar? I use my Whammy DT for this fun video! The Laid To Rest verse and chorus riff on repeat! #0 - I explain stuff - 0:00 #1 - Drop D - 0:30 #2 - Drop C# - 0:49 #3 - Drop C - 1:07 #4 - Drop B - 1:25 #5 - Drop A# - 1:43 #6 - Drop A - 2:02 #7 - Drop G# - 2:21 #8 - Drop G - 2:40 #9 - Drop F# - 3:01 #10 - Drop F - 3:21 #11 - Drop E - 3:43 After Drop E it was waaaay too muddy.... Let me know what you think sounded heaviest in the comments below! Also RU-vid destroyed a bit of the sound... it did sound better on my PC. I didn'T have that much time today. Recording and editing done TODAY from 3pm till 9pm which is 6 hours to completely create this video from scratch. If the audio and audio/video editing synch isn't perfect you know why ;) I pushed myself to get this video out today for you guys since wednesday is one of my two upload days! Hope you nevertheless enjoy it! Stay tuned and rock on! Jassy J // JJ's One Girl Band
lol why yes My brain stopped working as I worked the whole day and quickly did this video within 5 hours from scratch. I do the text as last thing and my brain was already dead haha. Though it did seem weird to me when I wrote it 😂
Drop C for the win for me. Still like the original the best but for the range you went through I liked drop C the most. I still adore all the cute faces and how much fun you look like you're having when you play. Definitely a fan for life. Keep shredding. 🤘🤘
Hi you should do this with megadeth symphony of destruction that would be awesome Edit please like so this video will happen I would appreciate that 👍👍🤘🏻🎸
The speed makes a difference along with the tuning Jassy with this, it sounded heavier the lower it went along with the speed decreasing. That sounded awesome 😀🤘🎸🎵🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@JassyPabst Probably Drop E# Jassy. I think it's because I've been playing Drop E on my 8 string recently for some of my videos, so it sounds very familiar that those riffs could be done in that tuning and work really well 😀🤘
@@JassyPabst It was fine for me Jassy, as I read for recording an 8 string which is F# standard or lower obviously, a tip is to roll off some bass and add some treble on your amp, which gets rid of a lot of the muddiness you'd end up with.
I think it depends on the riff as to what speed it’s heaviest at. Plus, I think opinion is a big decider as well. Awesome playing as always Jassy and rock on! 🤘🤘
I'm here just to tell that because of you, I bought Digitech Drop pedal (just half of your Whammy DT) and its awesome. No more tunning back and forth and sound quality is stunnig. So thank you, for let me know that this thing exists
First of all, what a great riff that is! It would probably sound good no matter what you did to it, especially played on that Jackson! I don't know that it got heavier so much as slowly transformed from groove/thrash/whatever-the-hell-LoG-is-defined-as to doom haha. The drop C part honestly sounded the best to me. In fact, it sounded amazing like that imo. That was a very interesting experiment. Great job!
Hey Jassy it’s still awesome to watch ur cute little fingers fly across the board 😍😍😍 I’m not familiar with this song but it sounded heavy to me at each tuning and speed. That’s a really cool pedal!
At last! Something I can offer an informed opinion on! I'm not a musician, but I am a keen listener and devotee of rock from 1951 to now. The answer is that YES, lower and slower is heavier! Go all the way and you get the first half of Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath ! HOWEVER there is a trade-off. You lose energy and "headbangability". You can't go apeshit and scream to 100% doom. For example, you can only get down to the second half of Black Sabbath (the song) when the pace picks up. I think that for a live sound, you want to be right in the middle, where there is enough darkness for a primal scream but also enough tempo to throw yourself around the mosh pit. Doom is best for brooding resentfully on your own (good cathartic therapy) and Power Metal on the other extreme to feel uplifted and ride dragons. Jassy I love your tutorials! Keep up the good work. I think you should do some more original solo work though.
Wieder mal, echt krass guter Beitrag!
The 1st part early in video when you started off I really didn't expect a huge difference......... I was very wrong though I guess but that's where I noticed a huge difference...... keep on having fun rocking out 1🤘🤘🤘
When you slowed the song right down it almost sounded like a break down in some of cannibal corpses tunes lol. I could tell that it was hard playing a fast song slow great job though and very interesting 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
You did it yay I asked for laid to rest awhile back on a live stream then a mod pissed me off with their comment.so I didn't think you would have seen it. But drop E sounds Evil
Awesome video. Tone = Heavy not speed or tuning. Personally I think Doom bands are Heavy as they are so dark and they all feed from Black Sabbath in some way. Thrash and speed metal are also heavy and most are in standard tuning. I still prefer low tuning for me but always love anything heavy with great tone and punch. Thanks for an amazing demonstration 🤘🏻💀🤘🏻🇨🇦
OK JJ, lowering pitch and playing slow does not mean you are heavier. If you are really after something ear bleeding, take a look at WASP Helldorado. The entire album was recorded one half step up in F, with a rather low gain. Awesome!
wow one of my favorite songs played by a gorgeous woman. gotta say i think it was best around g# or a.... but i might be biased because that's where my 7 string telly lives every day.
Great video. To me personally it loses the great feel of the riff when it goes to drop g. But lets be honest everyone will feel different. As for tempo. I often feel slower is heavier. But again there is no right or wrong to it. Got to admit though such a fucking epic riff that. Brilliantly played. 🤘🤘
I never really took much stock on speed, to me it was heavy no matter the tempo, it's more the tone etc that I judge on. But dope experiment non the less.
For anyone wondering where the Mick Thomson guitar is, Jassy had to send it back to Jackson. It’s now with the Jamie Slays channel. Check out his video, he even mentions that it was previously with JJ’sOneGirlBand.
I like your content, it is very good ... as suggestions if you could put subtitles in Spanish. Thank you for sharing your effort with us. greeting from Dominican Republic
