Conductor - Azim Karimov Concert Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra (CSO) Chief conductor - Prof. Anatoly Levin Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory 15/06/2018
Thank you very much! That’s a recording of my final exam work from the Moscow Conservatory… I haven't conducted this symphony since, and I think going back to this score now, it would be very interesting to compare my feelings, rehearsal speed (efficiency) and of course the conducting manual aspect of it 😆
Brilliant! Very much enjoyed this, having listened this piece countless times throughout my life - this is a rock solid performance from start to finish - many thanks!
It used to be such an underrated, even detested composition after its premiere in Paris when the genius Prokofiev composed it, I am glad to hear such a respectable performance.
Mmm. I see I'm the first to comment. Well, I'm listening to each of Prokofiev's symphonies in turn. This is very different from the Classical Symphony (No.1)!
@@Alix777. wel the classical Symphony is also really nice!!! Do think this performance is a bit boring. Neeme jarvi performance is way more exciting!!!
i love this symphony and i cannot understand why it doesn't get more live performances. i hear the barbaric influence of Antheil and Honegger in Paris around this time. the composer himself wanted a symphony of iron and steel and this is that, but unlike the others he still manages to be lyrical even when the density gets stormy. it does sound like a challenging piece for the orchestra at times so perhaps the capabilities of the orchestra for the Paris premiere were just not up to the task. not so with this performance. i'm mainly familiar with the Chandos Jaarvi SNO recording but it can be hard to hear the details due to a bit too much house reverb. but in this performance there's so many interesting intersecting lines at work that it's almost like hearing the piece again. a wonderful performance and, as i read in other comments, a wonderful final exam!
I love Prokofiev piano concertos. This symphony is just as wonderful. The composition is incredible, and the orchestra performs it with utter perfection and grandeur. This is definitely a mood modifier to allow creative juices to flow. Paul D. Escudero (author)
The TSO - yes, but this is CSO: Concert Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow Conservatory. It’s a half-time professional orchestra which mostly consists of recent graduates. www.mosconsv.ru/en/groups.aspx?id=21311
Beautiful rendition! I was looking for a new version to listen to, and yours jus might be my new favorite. Also it’s great seeing you conduct the whole piece, particularly in the more ”explosive” moments.
What a haunting second movement. It was written some five years after Prokofiev had passed through the Orient and it has the flavor of the Far East to my ear.
