For my needs as a restaurant owner tucked in shirt. Game changer. Can carry all day not weighed down and forget it’s in my pocket. Gun of the year for me
I have both, but my 2.0 has no safety, but neither does the Max or my other two LCPs, so no issue. The 2.0 shoots better, but the max is more concealable. I'll keep both 😉👍🙌 Great review as usual 💯🙏
Great review. Very fair and didn't simp for either. If you already own one, you probably don't need the other. If you don't, test and see which suits you.
I had the LCP Max, and thought that it was rather cheaply made with the slide rattle, take down pin, etc. I sold it and got the G42 and was happy until I bought the BG2.0. Much better for me in all aspects.
Hey Dan the Man our new Buckeye! I actually purchased both of these at FFF. After getting the new bodyguard I sold the Max. Better trigger, ergonomics and accuracy with the S&W
MSRP is misleading. Sounds like the Bodyguard 2.0 is cheaper, but I recently bought both and the BG 2.0 ran $399, while the Max 75th Anniversary edition only set me back $279...
Can't speak on the LCP Max but I have the Bodyguard 2.0 and love it. I opted for the thumb safety and at first it was stiff in both directions, after working it back & forth many times, it now functions great. I carry in a Muddy River Tactical pocket kydex holster if pocket carrying, also have a Muddy River iwb kydex .. either way, you don't even know your carrying .. so light and small. I carry Underwood Extreme Defenders in mine and they run great (tested with 4 boxes before deciding to carry that ammo .. 80 rds and zero issues)
I was gonna buy the LCP Max, and the Gun Store clerk humbly suggested the 2.0. The 2.0 felt better in my hand and was 20$ more than the LCP. I went with the 2.0 and am satisfied with my choice.
Living in Florida and usually wearing shorts, I typically pocket carry. I have an original Bodyguard 380, which is great to carry but is only 6+1 and has the terrible long pull trigger that takes some getting used to. I was considering going to the LCP Max but then S&W came out with the 2.0 so I will probably trade up to that.
Something to consider. I'm not sure if the LCP Max has changed what they come with upon purchase, but mine only came with the smaller mag. I had to purchase the larger mag, so that added an additional cost.
I’d like to pick up the smith. My Ruger Lcp is a rusty mess in the Florida humidity. Would the stainless Ruger remedy this? I don’t know. But my shield has no rust.
Unfortunately you did not mention more about the trigger, or how they shoot. The LCP Max stock trigger is crap, the gun rattles when you shake it, and it is the snappiest gun I have ever shot. The beaver tail on the Bodyguard is more distinct allowing a higher grip closer to the bore axis and as a result is a much softer shooting gun as the recoil follows your arm rather than flipping the nose up. Bodyguard 2.0 far and away the better gun.
I have Parkinson’s and it causes weakness n my left hand I bought the lcp max due to it being hammer fired it’s much easier to to rack I carry it with my equalizer.
Like both, lcp max is a good pocket carry and back up, bodyguard excellent IWB and OWB carry and back up 👍 both are excellent back up options to go with other options 🤔
For me there is no comparison. My Bodyguard 2.0 has been at Smith and Wesson for over a month for repairs. After 400-500 rounds I was experiencing numerous failure to feeds with various ammo. I cleaned and oiled the firearm and polished the manufacturing ridge on the feed ramp. BTW, a S&W rep told me the ridge was "normal", but I see that some do not have the ridge--what is the truth? Anyway, I recommend everyone waiting on purchasing until the bugs are out of the Bodyguard 2.0--unless you are unconcerned with getting a lemon.
@@SSTupperware Interesting, sounds like Smith released the BG 2.0 with issues which they are now correcting. There are RU-vidrs who clearly show the ridge and talk about the magazine problems. Buyers beware--I would wait if you are in the market.
It’s probably been two months now since I purchased the S&W BG2.0, and of course I had to do some testing to see how it runs, now my testing was done in two days, because I had to run around looking for specific ammunition. Moving forward I tested Speer Gold dot, Sig V-crown, Critical Defense, Round-nose PMC-FMJ, Flat-nose Winchester FMJ, and last on the list was Personal Defense Hydra-Shok, now don’t like my selection of ammo that’s fine I’m good, but I can honestly say the BG2.0 ran like a champ and I will admit so did my Ruger LCP max but only after Ruger replaced the barrel on it.
Don’t think the difference for me anyway justifies trading in my Max for the S&W. They are both pocket guns and are not competition guns, they are designed to be shot at 7-10 yards. In a defensive situation the difference is nil. If you didn’t have either it’s a coin flip.
I have a Ruger LCP Max and like it very much. But, my most often carried .380 is my Beretta Pico in a pocket holster. I use .380 as a back up to my primary carry pistol- which most often is a .357 revolver or 9mm semiauto- either in an OWB holster. I see no reason to purchase the S&W BG 2.0 as I consider the Ruger LCP Max to be a superior firearm in durability, reliability and concealability.
@@robertfrapples2472 You may be right. I can't confirm your comparison since I don't possess your affinity for steaming turds. But, then again, I might be a superior pistolero and more capable with a Pico.
I’ve got the Ruger LCP and it is awesome for a pocket carry Can hardly even tell it’s there even when loaded Feels almost like another iPhone in my pocket 🤷🏻♂️
bg2 mags are way too tight creating issues with +1 usage on a closed slide... mags need to add a little more space (like .25-.50 of a round) to reduce the pressure when fully loaded. thumb safety detent is way crappy and too difficult to use. otherwise fantastic if you're willing to -1 mag capacity for operation reliability
The mags get easier with use. I have no trouble loading to full capacity without an uplula. I would much rather have a tight new handgun than a "loosey goosey" one right out of the box. YMMV...
