Mine runs the federal 40-45 grain fmj and hollowpoint well. 30-35 game points run great with amazing fireball. 35 grain vmax runs without fail. My go to with this pistol for now. I have been running the gun almost dry to mitigate the flakes sticking to mechanical or rail parts. Also used graphite in the mags to slick them up a bit. Ran great after 200 rounds and drying it up. Once the mag reaches 20 rounds I noticed troughing or denting of the inserted round from the rim of the next one. I've limited my mags to 20 now. Hopefully they weaken up a little and ill make it back to 30 soon. First 6 mags were loaded to 30 before I noticed the damage to the rounds. It's topped with a riton red dot. Went with the lightest optic to keep the action running fast. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the heads up on the mags. I'll be shooting mine as soon as it comes in, so just 20 rounds in the mags for now....

Here is a fact and some useful knowledge. Do not use the provided magazines for the template for kydex mag pouches. The heat and vacuum will distort and crush the side wall and back of these polymer mags. Rendering them useless. I'm now down a magazine.

I have one of these. I put a Holosun red dot on mine. It is truly an amazingly accurate pistol. Although I’ve had a few feeding issues, overall it’s just a really fun, accurate gun to shoot. I like the hotter ammo for the blast and fireball. I wish you could still get the A22 magnum Savage ammo as this is a hoot to fire from the gun…..gigantic blast. I love the trigger and general feel of this gun. Highly recommend.

D, that was a solid video. I'm still not impressed with 22wmr in any handgun due to velocity, though its definitely a knight & day difference coming out of a rifle. I will say that many of the umarex/walther (wondering if this was made by them) built rimfire guns have changed my opinion positively about using a 22 long rifle in a self loader. Rimfire, and rimmed ammo generally, does require some specialized knowledge when it comes to lubrication, ammo selection, and loading into box magazines. Glad you demonstrated that in this video.

Mine took about 300 rounds to break in. Remember to clean it before first use and after the break in too. You'll see the grit you wash out when you do. After that break in, it has been remarkably good to me.

Great review Justin I have been having a great time filming with this gun on the channel. So far I have had one failure to feed with CCI Maxi Mags and one failure to feed with Norma 40gr jhp. So far I'm a little over 400 rounds on it I hope you have a great weekend.

Thanks for the great video. I have this gun and have pretty much the same issues you showed accept I have a lot more and break in is taking longer.. Definitely very careful on loading the mags. . I do really like the gun and hope it gets reliable at some point . I also have an issue with both magazines where sometimes on the 3rd to the last round it slides over the round and will not pick it up. Seems like a magazine issue to me. I am disappointed in S&W . The store I bought my gun I had to go through 3 guns off the shelf before I found one that didn’t totally lock up and get stuck. I told S&W CS and they said they would pass it on but clearly they didn’t because the next time I callled in I asked if that had that in the call notes and they didn’t . Also said if I wanted to send my gun in because of the many mis feeds it would take . 8-10 weeks !!! Are you kidding me ? Wouldn’t they want to know about field problems on a new release immediately? As a comparison I sent my sig p322 back to the factory for problems and from the time I called to the time I had it back in my hands fixed was 8 days . Come on S&W really? My first call they said sounds like a mag issue we will send out 2 new followers and springs to try. You will have the 7-10 days . They shipped out on the 11th day after I called to check. Still don’t have them after 15 days This is confusing why I see on posts and RU-vid where people say S&W CS is fantastic. Sorry being without a gun for 2 1/2 months is not fantastic. Maybe you can pass this along to them Thanks!

I am really interested in purchasing this gun. I have the Keltec PMR 30 with very few failures. As you said, loading the magzines is the key. I was going to buy this soon but now with your reliability issues, not sure. Nothing more frustrating than a gun that wont run thoulgh a magazie without a failure. Great review. Thank you.

If I got trapped deep in the wilderness and had to choose between say a 9mm glock 43 or a kel-tech pmr 30 or this M&p .22 mag I would take the .22 mag and if I had to choose between the M&P .22 mag or the pmr-30 I would definitely choose the Smith & Wesson because of its name which is one you can trust. I have owned the S&W XD-40 for a few years now and it’s a great gun so based off my XD’s performance I would trust the .22 mag over the PMR-30 although the pmr-30 is still a very cool gun and it looks awesome. After seeing this M&p though I love it,it looks awesome and I bet with a suppressor it’s even cooler. If I had to choose 4 guns to have in a survival situation I’d choose the 22 mag,it would make a great secondary sidearm along side your main firearm main assault rifle and 12 gauge. Although it’s a .22 mg and a small round the fact that it’s got 30 round mags means a lot and if your shooting hollow points it becomes more then just a run of the kill .22 mag and the amount of firepower it brings to the table means a lot when choosing a secondary side arm. Just think of how many rounds you could carry. You would burn threw a barrel before needing to reload even half your mags so having an extra barrel would be smart. You can carry 1500 rounds in 50 pre loaded mags pretty easy so it’s really a awesome shooter. I don’t care how one looks at it but if you put 30 rounds onto a bear there going to feel it and then with a reload you can do serious damage to a bear if in a bad situation. I was primed and ready to go buy the Pmr -30 into I learns of this new M&p .22 which is the next gun I’m getting. It would be pretty cool if they come out with a ccu for this M&p. I love my Xd-40 because it can be turned into a ccu carbine on top of being able to shoot 9mm and 357 sig.

Well, It's About Time S&W came out with a 22 Mag, semi auto handgun! They could have and should have done this many years ago, But IMO, they Jumped on the Bandwagon of all the other Manufacturers going to the Trend of the 22 Caliber Platform! I am sure that the Innovative Design of Kel-Tec's PMR30 had a lot to do with S&W Coming out with this Handgun! I really think the Great Success of The PMR30 Inspired S&W to come out with this Look Alike M&P 22 Mag Gun! From what I have seen, this gun should be a Great Addition to the 22Mag Platform and their Pricing is what I call decent for this all metal gun But having said this, I can buy Two PMR30's and I think I will Keep Mine!

@johndilday1846
@johndilday1846 11 месяцев назад
It looks like the gun needs at least a couple hundred rounds to break in. I would think that if you can get through a couple hundred rounds without any issues, that it would likely be trustworthy. Of course, being a rimmed cartridge, the .22 WMR is subject to the chance of rimlock if one isn’t careful in loading the magazines. I would guess that you are an experienced enough shooter to avoid that in loading the magazines. I like the accuracy it has. Thanks for sharing.

I noticed that your example seemed to NOT suffer from the drooping dust cover that a number of the ones recently reviewed seemed to have. That’s a good sign that the ones that demonstrated that trait were not intentional. I would have to consider getting a fun gun like this. Thanks for the good review.

What is the minimum barrel length for .22wmr to ensure all powder is burnt?
@JustinOpinionChannel
@JustinOpinionChannel 11 месяцев назад
That would be more a variable associated to the ammunition than the barrel.
@louisbabycos106
@louisbabycos106 11 месяцев назад
Even if not all the powder is burnt in the barrel,more than enough is and it still gives substantially better performance in most cases versus 22LR . The only real consistent drawbacks are noise and muzzle flash from shorter barrels compared to 22 LR . Most mini revolvers are either 22lr or 22WMR and it seems even in those tiny little mini revolvers people step up and purchase 22WMR over the 22 LR .

The whole "choose .22 for comfort for self-defense" just doesn't pass the smell test. Dying a horrible death is mighty uncomfortable, and is something I want to avoid at all costs. Real attackers don't pause to let you clear misfires and stovepipes. So .38 Spl or 9mm is a bare minimum. People who like to live dangerously, and go looking for trouble might opt for a smaller .32 or .380 round "for concealability" but that's because they're all about risky behavior. When I'm at home, a Glock 20/21 on a side table isn't too much to carry. The .22 is fine for backyard varmits. When it's a 50 pound raccoon threatining my pets, a WMR is a reasonable upgrade.
