awesome stuff, may I offer a bit of constructive criticism, try cutting the music or turning it way down when your talking. Its super distracting. I know its trying to add that professional touch, but I's sure I'm not the only one that watches your videos for the great content, and not your background music selection.
Are there CAD files available for this machine anywhere? I have a lot of the same components so it would be super helpful for me. If not though good work ive been enjoying the lathe series.
So glad you've published this. I'm in the process of building mine. Can you make a video about design details that didn't work so well in the end? Do you have some sort of a parts list and suppliers? Thanks!
Thanks Arnaud. I will go over some more details in the next video when I redesign a few parts. Hopefully it won't take me a month to upload the next video lol. As far as the parts list, the video discription has some of the parts, and I will be adding to the list in the next couple of days. I have to track down a few sources as most of this was bought more then a year ago. I would love to see what your working on if you want to post some photos.
Nice build. Concern that you used clear plexiglass. What are you doing about eye protection. Should have used laser light blocking plexiglass. What is your cutting area? Thanks
Hello from stockholm, I have seen with enough attention and pleasure your videos, I have just one word, excellent. Surely you will reach the hundred thousand subscribers quickly, relative to this video, is it possible to share plans? Both mechanical and electronic. thank you
Great laser cutter! I kinda want to build one now... One question: how do you know the acrylic is opaque to IR? is it a special grade of acrylic or something?
As someone working for a company that uses lasers to cut holes in car frames at their factory's, I would highly suggest you to paint that thing black. It sure does look nice but that laser is way to dangerous to be in an open space. I had a colleague who walked in a room where our robot was busy working on a car. The guy never looked at the laser but by just walking in the room he got hit by a diffuse beam, making him partly blind... If you do want to look at it, at least use protective glass (in the same color as the laser). But even then, never look at the source.
Two things: First, laser safety glasses are not all equal. They need to be certified for the particular wavelength of the c02 tube, so get the right ones. Second, you shouldn't use clear acrylic for the side panels. I know it's cool to see everything working, but get some thin steel or aluminium for the sides and a tinted polycarbonate for the lid. C02 lasers don't cut poly, so it's "relatively" safe to use. I'm starting my build now with an 80W RECI tube and I'm doing my safety stuff at the start. It's nice to have two functional eyes ;)
Hi, you've made a really good job ^^ did you will release the cad file or can you just give us some quotation ? I would like to create my own laser cutter ^^
Hey guys! I've been looking for some project for CNC aplications. It looks so great! Do u have the project posted some where? I would like to build it at home. Thank u for your videos, go ahead!!!
+pol barbena thanks! I am working on a website now where I will post all the projects I have done so far. I probably won't make specific plans, but I will release the cad models and software. I hope to have it up in the next few months
I have a number of questions on this build, and am interested in building, as it looks like a very good design. Where can i find more info on this project?
really? co2? That doesnt sound right with a co2 laser since the gas will absorb the laser radiation beatifully. The energy the laser photons have matches exactly the energy that is needed to activate the CO2 (obviously since that is how a laser light is created) and so would cause a new emmision in a random direction. I wouldnt be suprised if you would lose 50% of the power by doing that. I personally would go with N2 or normal air for the easy things. And a word of warning: The tube is a 30w tube but overdriven to 40w. So if you want to extend the life you shouldnt go over 70% power.
you probably dont care but does someone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb forgot the account password. I love any assistance you can give me.
@London Duke thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
+Isaac Marcus what you see in the video is just a sheet of acrylic. It's painted on one side which is why it's gray. It worked ok but eventually started to warp and get pretty nasty the more you cut on it. I have changed it for some thin ceramic tile from home Depot since then and that seems to work really well. Absorbs the laser with no signs of wear or reflection.
Hi! Very nice your job! You share the full project? Exactly intetested me the arduino firmware or resources. Can this share? Thank you the answer! Reg.: Zsolt
I have a K40 and been wanting to upgrade to a 24x18 inch bed. Is the beam still strong enough at this larger size to cut 3mm acrylic? Do you have any plans or diagrams available for reference? I've been thinking about using 20x20 extruded aluminum for the frame and V-slot for the rails.
Is the x-axis, which just consists of the hiwin rail, stiff enough in your experience?? Or will it result in "bowed" lines when acceleration is high and the moment of inertia of the laserhead leads to a force and thereby bending the rail?
hey. thanks for the video! i have bought a patreon to access your building plan, but it isn't possible because of a wrong token. Please contact me. Thanks!
Hi, I really loved your project, I would like to replicate it, you can send me the STL files, and the sketch of the project, I'm from Mexico, I'm willing to pay
Hey if your still monitoring, I've tried subscribing to your patreon with not much success you give a link to a website to download plans which doesnt exist. So how bout doing it the simple way, a paypal address how much do you want and I send x dollars and you supply a download link? Greetings from the colonies downunder.
Great video made less than great with the crappy music (code for sound) Why do video creators incorporate electronic noise generation? It doesn't add to the experience.
@@PhysicsAnonymous Thanks for the reply, was the 1/4 inch size hard to cut with the 40w tube? btw the link you provided sends me back to the youtube channel.
