We had an incredible road trip along the R62 from Ladismith to Barrydale. When we reached the top of a hill and caught sight of Barrydale nestled in the valley below, we were instantly captivated by its beauty and couldn't wait to explore. Driving leisurely along the R62 that winds through Barrydale was a truly enjoyable experience. We had to make stops at places like the picturesque Karoo Daisy and the abandoned but nostalgic old Jukskei park. As we meandered through the village, we were charmed by the lovingly-restored houses and the historic 1880 church. Barrydale, without a doubt, is a town of remarkable beauty. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #westerncape #barrydale #ladismith

Hi guys the drive in was amazing especially the views of Barrydale nestled in the beautiful valley with the mountain back drop .loved Daisy restaurant with the mural very inviting place .I knew as soon as you saw the sign ( Geel vat biltong) you'll be back to buy some !!! The old antique shop and the steam punk love it the place with all the old metal signs amazing and as you said reminds you of American pickers wich was a great programme. The weather in the valley is perfect for growing so many different crops and Brandy that's top in the world a truly blessed place the beautiful old property's mind blowing the DRF church was stunning and well kept. The high school is top notch. Loved all the thatched houses and the three in a row looks like a picture of Ireland!!! Great to see the bowls club and tennis well kept and in use .we'll done for finding the old church and farm house they were well worth it and still has thatched roof. The stone tiles on the roof are the same as some old rural places in the north of England. The town had a ordered calm and peaceful vibe to me with no high fencing around the houses. The word Dale in old English means valley as in the the old marching song ( over hill and ore the Dale to flanders Portugal and Spain) the hidden towns never fail to impress me thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one

The restaurant in the shape of a church is fantastic, those murals are brilliant! 💒 The setting of the town is so picturesque as one comes driving down that road and sees the entire town in the valley down below. There is no shortage of natural beauty in this area! 🌳⛰️ I could actually hear you singing that old marching song! 😁🎶 Thatch is always number one for us when it comes to roofing materials, but you probably heard how fascinated we were by the stones everywhere, even on the roofs. Thanks for joining us in Barrydale! 🚙🤩

Hi you two! This was again a most enjoyable trip. Thank you for taking me! The approach to the town nestled in the valley guarded by those beautiful mountains was astonishing. To describe the town in words I think is very difficult. Better to show it live as you do in your video. It's just beautiful and interesting everywhere you look. Every shade of green, as Sonia remarked. The white houses and other buildings maintained for ages. The stonework fences, treelined streets, old churches. Everything under a sunny clear blue sky! One can not ask for more. Your biltong, whether the fat was yellow or not, is just the snack to have in a place like Barrydale. I hope you could round it off with a shot or 2 (...3?...?) of Joseph Barry? Your home Province is fast becoming my favourite dream place thanks to your excellent presentations. Thank you again! I'm ready for the next adventure! Keep safe!

We may have forgotten just the tiniest bit how beautiful our home province really is! 🚙😍 The mountains are so majestic and left us in awe more than once. ⛰️ It's clear that the Barrydale folks look after their history and their properties, we were enthralled by all the thatch and stonework we saw! I was disappointed to find the distillery closed on the day of our visit, I was hoping for a glimpse into the brandymaking process. It was my drink of choice many moons ago, but I've since switched to one with hops being the main ingredient. Cheers! 😁🍻

I LOVE BARRYDALE TOOOOOO 🥰. Yes I could live there with pleasure. Not too big & not too small. Simply beautiful.. Wondering if Joseph Barry brandy is still produced. Never heard of it. Stunning buildings. Once again, been through but never stopped.🙈🚙🚙🚙Thank you Curtis & Sonja.

Joseph Barry brandy is still being produced. 🥃 I loved brandy until my love for beer took over a few decades ago! 😁🍻 Next time you're in the area, a quick detour through the town will make you love the place even more! 🚙😍 Oh, and the distillery is just before you get to the town on your right, in case you were wondering! From Montagu, that is.

The nagmaal houses you referred to were actually townhouses built by surrounding farmers, and when nagmaal happened every few months, they came into town with oxwagon, spaaider or whatever carraige was used, and stayed over at their town houses during the course of nagmaal, which was usually over a few days. Then you saw splotches of purple vygies during your trip but you should have driven the R62 last week. It was a show of purple and pink, and orange you couldn't believe. We stayed at a farm house just further on the road where you saw the seed onions, and came along that road past the school into town. Think we must start looking for a place there and move out of the Strand!

When I was small and we used to go up for holiday in Free State, I always wondered about Touwsriver. I wondered whose toes it was named for. Later on, we would travel to R62 via Tradouw pass, Barrydale, Oudtshoorn, Meiringspoort to Beaufort West and sleep over at Wagon Wheels. Then on to Kroonstad to stay there by the river for a few weeks. So lovely. I remember once coming back, we actually encountered snow at Barrydale. This was 1985. I have watched people playing jukskei. The name comes from pieces of ox harnass that they threw at a target, and i think its a bit like bowels, the closer you come the higher the score? I could be wrong. Love love love the artwork on the Karoo Daisy!!! I am old enough to have seen a wheel barrow concrete mixer in action, mind you! I was very small at the time. There used to be a lovely place called The Country Pumpkin. My hubby and I always stopped there for refreshments on our journeys together. I think it has been taken over by someone else. There also used to be a dried fruit factory there, which at times made the whole area stink of farts because of the sulphur used in the preservation of the fruit. Ha ha! Whats growing, and I said looks like onions a moment before you did! Laugh! Lovely to revisit Barrydale, thank you.

We never knew about Barrydale until a few years ago and you've known the town for such a long time! I was surprised to see the toes of the Touws crawling over such a long distance! Snow on the Barrydale mountains must be an awesome sight and probably what that mural at the one propery depicts. 🗻❄️ I have no clue about jukskei at all, it was fascinating to find the facility though. 🎳 The Country Pumpkin still exists, we had lunch there about two years ago when we were last in town. 🎃 I know onions when I see them, I love eating them too! 😁🌰

Love Barrydale. The art work on the church /coffee shop is stunning. Surprises me that it's not a church, as there is a cross in the arch window and a bell hanging in the bell tower next to the building. But a great episode, thanks again

Those onions you’ve seen is actually the seed grower onion which the farmers buy to plant and grow your normal onion. The flower of onions is very similar to an agapanthus flower but smaller and white. Only the seed grower love to see that but the onion farmer cut them off so as to not hollow out the onion.

Hi Family, I just wanted to find out something as a side note. Do you not have issues with receiving your deposit back from car rental institutions seeing as you complete hard KMs and have instances where you might go on gravel roads and the likes. I'm simply asking becuse I would like to visit some of the places that you have shown us. It all looks awesome 👌🏾
@DustBugsTravel
@DustBugsTravel 8 месяцев назад
In 22 trips, we've not had a single issue with a deposit refund. I have to add immediately that I'm an extremely responsible driver who don't take any unnecessary chances. We return the vehicles undamaged and cleaner than when we picked it up, so have no issues. If we go over our alotted mileage, they simply deduct the extra charge from our deposit. 🚙😁
