Mid 90s Top Gear gave us Tiff testing the Mclaren F1 in 1994 and the Elise in 1996 - my two favourite cars of all time. TG became more entertaining in the noughties, but Tiff's F1 test in particular is the pinnacle of all the TG road tests.
James Roberts Do you get a droning noise as you drive at certain speeds, seriously considering a 111s that I found with 23k miles, would you recommend one
Such a cute car. Lotus should never have tried to make more power than a Miata. Stick with your niche. Keep it below 2,000 pounds and 150 horsepower. Keep it perfect.
The innovation and build quality came about during Ford's era. The only thing Tata did was take advantage of the increased reliability and improved performance of the marque and give a facelift to most of Jaguar's cars.
Any car lovers worth their salt should have a place in their heart for lotus, in terms of wonderful little sports cars the UK does it best, despite the volume car industry turning into a shambles in the 70s, motorsports and small sports car are something to be proud of caterham/lotus/ariel/zolfe/morgan/radical/bac...
Actually, the real brief on British sports cars is ‘fun when they’re running, which is rare’. British sports cars are known for being great fun until they fail, either due to dodgy engineering or woefully unreliable electrics. There’s a reason Lucas earned the moniker, ‘Prince of Darkness’.
2:21 no cassette player? And no place to put your cassettes? Oh, how times have changed 😂👍 Also weird that the review is ALL ABOUT THE CAR!! These days after 3 minutes Top Gear would compare it to a helicopter. Or put some rockets on it on day two to see if it can fly... 🙄😤
Yes you are right. Its specialist and inherently not scalable . But who wants to invest?. Proton now owned by DRB both Malaysian have invested for over 20 years.
Lotus needs investment, but it doesn't detract from the fact that they make special cars, they will always be a low volume manufacturer, they aren't really comparable to Jag or Land Rover. I don't know how you call them 'rubbish'
sorry for strong sardon. Jeremy Clarkson has trashed both Malaysian brands that own Lotus, and even TATA on the Beeb yet the irony is that Asian revenue generated investment saves these brands and UK jobs.
TATA invested over 1.5 billion pounds in Jaguar LR . Ford was struggling to survive. Get your facts straight please. It lacked innovation and build quality.
Lotus is owned by Proton of Malysia, not Buggati, and is costng the Malaysian taxpayer a lot money for ungtratful solid Brisith rubbush, a rabid bulldog breed, and decadent nosalgia. Please learn form TATA of India that has save Jagur andLand Rover. . Check U.S J.D Power rankings for quality and performance.
