Breaking Eurovision News: Yesterday there were 8 countries that had complained to the EBU (eurovision) about an unsafe working atmosphere behind the scenes... Today there are already 13 countries that have submitted multiple complaints. The Netherlands itself raised the alarm twice during this Eurovision Song Contest and complained to the organization. Norway even wanted to withdraw because of the insecurity. Switzerland (the winner), Greece and Norway also complained about being filmed too much...there was hardly a moment of peace anywhere. Israel was of course heavily protected, but this was at the expense of the other participants in the Eurovision Song Contest. There was also a very tense atmosphere among the visitors, a lot of booing could be heard, but the EBU filtered this out for TV. In any case, something had to go wrong at the Eurovision Song Contest. The EBU does not make itself heard, they do not pick up the phone and do not respond to their own mistakes. They prefer to focus on what Joost Klein would probably have done, but do not want to look at their own mistakes, which could probably have prevented this incident. The EBU (with all their laws and rules) is sick, the organization needs a sweep before a new Eurovision Song Contest can be organized. (Source RTL-Boulevard)

EBU definitely needs to work on better conditions for their artists. These people are why we watch ESC, they give us the music. It is unfair to expect so much of them, when they are just human, and usually new to events of this scale. EBU needs to get the message from us fans, we care more about the wellbeing of performers than our ability to see snippets of the journey. ♡ They are the soul of Eurovision.

Exactly! The country's who participate should demand a safe and positive environment for their artist. Why is it that they all aloud the EBU to put them under that unnecessary extreme pressure? The participating country's should make a statement together to the EBU: The wellbeing of the contestant should be more important than everything else. If they enjoy the whole journey, they will perform even better and isn't that what this show is all about? We don't want to see stressed people, putting on a fake smile, while backstage they are about to fall to apart.

From the moment on the song is known the artist lost his own life and is being lived by organisations and it does not stop after the main final. Indeed the artist should have more influence on what he wants and the EBU or any other journalist/organisation should respect that rare piece of moment that an artist can have its own moment.

I’m so glad that you seem to thoroughly understand what was involved in the case of Joost Klein, the personal tragedy that he had had encountered in his youth had left him traumatised, something that he had been undergoing therapy for. As a child he had watched this competition together with his parents, he had promised them that one day he would stand on that stage and now he was fulfilling his promise! The EBU not only killed his dream but in doing so they let down an entire country of supporters and one of the bigger financial contributors of the show. You mustn’t be surprised if the Netherlands doesn’t compete for a while because the Dutch public has had it with the entire competition.

I don't know if somebody already pointed this out so in that case: Sorry. A few days ago I read in the newspaper that the EBU is mightyer than I knew. They also play a big part in The tour de France and the European championship footbal by registration it. They decide what we see. Those 2 are really big events. Martin Osterdahl is also a writer. He's the autor of a book named: No mercy. How many sarcasm can one have? Being Dutch I did not want to watch the final because I really felt so sad. But eventually I watched it on the Belgian channel. I knew they have a commentator with a lot of humor and I needed that. Thank you Belgium! ❤

Yes he is quite new to television. He has done interviews but not that much either. He is more the kind of person that does everything with people he know and does concerts in a space he can control things. Eurovision is where artists have no control whatsoever. The EBU decides everything. Also they did not sign any contracts with the EBU, so technically the artists are not bound to an agreement, which means they can not be forced to be filmed, so if they want to force the artists they should make them to sign an agreement/contract for specific rules. They did not do that as far. Which is problem number 1 and also they can not provide safety for all the artists apperiantly, which is problem number 2. EBU is saying: The delegations are responsible for themselves. Which means that EBU does nothing when delegations of other artists are bullying other artists. Problem number 3 is that they do not accept the boundaries of artists even though they do not even follow contracts so they should have accepted his boundaries. The places where the videos were made was so unnecessary and so it should have been easy for them to be okay with that, also why in earth are they filming that in the first place. They make it harder for them then necessary.

Nice to hear from you AGAIN 😊. You are somebody with common sense. With a developed IQ and even more important: EQ. The whole song is emotional: about his difficult and sad life after the dying of his parents,trying to survive,plus the honering at the end. And yes,we are all human beings,like Joost says wisely in the outro. So his is indeed too. And....the AVRO/TROS said that during some rehearsels Joost was crying after singing,so that's why they made the agreement with the EBU for not filming this special tv moment. Paul, S10 said ackward at the end😕. Translating was correct. She could said something positive to Joost.....

He starts with his back to the viewers a nice monumentel building coleurs flag enz but the crows are flying over,europa is not as open/nice as whe think(im a trucker)80😘you dont have to like this gabber music but we started it the 90ths the instruments are made in dutch enz he made bring this song with his friends(for a long time)and tha its and in pitchblack and tears, maybe he said i come so far its OK i go home f you all😊😁🤣✌

To me it would make a lot of difference with what kind of camera. It were not professional production cameras they were filming with. It were dozen of people under contract of the org with smart phones being in your face with a phone and secretly filming you with a phone for social media. I can understand that that does give a different vibe. A huge camera and crew you can spot and than you know you are being filmed.

Paul: in reaction on all the comments here: in his Lowlands 2023 performance, Joost himself speaks about his trauma's of childhood. He sings about it but also mentions it. " Anger is also an emotion, you have to deal with it, they thought me at the trauma centre". He says. ( yells😂). Joost is always open and honest about his trauma background. His song " Meeuw", in that Lowlands 2023 performance is about he was being bullied as a child. He yells out his anger and grief and message: " stop hating, stop bullying" to the crowd and the crowd is carrying him. At the end of this performance he is crying. At his song Florida. The crowd cries with him. In the video you see that his friends ( and co performancers) are holding and hugging him at that moment. Safety! One of them isTantu Beats, the co-creator of Europapa. Joost is a master in being openly vulnerable. It helps him also to cope. And peoples hearts go open. EBU never heard of vulnarable people. I think. The show must go on. No depth, just money things and power. And yes, Joost was for the first time in this kind of setting. Not that safe perhaps, that crazyness behind stage as should have been for him: indeed: here we are! EBU never took in this kind of arguments. I think, I wasn't there. But it wasn't 'their cup of tea: the whole Joost vibe. That's for sure. So again: you're so spot on here! Your comment is excactly what it is and what it was and what it should have been. Question: I ask myself again and again: the judge that has to handle this case in june: is he or she able and willing to include that vulnarebility in his descision? Justice?

There is no better way to put it. And I also ask myself this question, whether empathy and the knowledge of everything you have described can be found in June. And yes, it's definitely _Lowlands _*_2023_* that opened my eyes and heart to all of this - it should be mandatory to watch for lawyers and judges in this case ...

❤. Fore sure Lowlands 2023 is Joost's " businiss card". Maybe is justice for Joost a judge that is in secret a fan of Joost. We'll never know. If we notice te reactions through out the world, then sure the judge wil have noticed the Joost vibe too. 😊. Joost is highly sensitive. Therefore he was always listening to soothing music through his ear plugs during interviews and press moments during the eurovision period. That he explained him self, during one of the interviews. And the only moment he could'nt arrange that was ofcourse in the first few moments going of stage after performing in semi finale 2. And then...😢... Sometimes, litstening to his lyrics, I think Joost is clearcognizant! One example: in the Meeuw song in Lowlands 23, he speaks straight into the camera: " ik ben een alien en die bestaan echt" ( I'm an alien and they realy excists". As I watch Lowlands 2023, everty time I see him saying that, I think, yes, Eurovision, yes EBU..it is if he already knew.. The Joost vibe realy excists, even if EBU didn''t want that, not accepted his personality, his needs, not understanding his ( word) art and being " afraid" of his energy; and his raw but transparant perfoming ( combined with all the hidden messages), and his way of being on and behind stage. This in combination "with what was going out ofside the building" indeed! They "offered" him. Out of panic to the rumours, chaos and the many complaints at their adress? Or pure consiousley knowing his vulnarability?

This global community could actually contribute to this. I love his ear plugs, wireless ones would drive me crazy 😅 I live in Germany, close to the border, understand Dutch relatively well and love your language 🥰 (Alleen het spreken en schrijven is ongeoefend, dus DeepL moet me helpen 😅) Now I'm even happier to understand a lot! There's nothing like hearing it in the original!

I agree: there's nothing like hearing and seeing the original Lowlands 2023. Even as its ( only) soothing your own moods. It's such a beautiful example of being able to connect people also. And to justice for Joost by the judge: we not always know how justice finds his way. For sure: one who can unite many and touch peoples hearts so deep, as Joost can...resonates on good energy.

I want to add one more message to this discussion: the words of Joost himself. Yesterday evening he performed in Vancouver. He performed great as the free spirit he is. He brought the remix version of Europapa and the whole crowd was singing with him. The knew the lyrics 😅At one moment he yelled to the crowd and camera's his first public comment: " f~ck eurovision", and the crowd answered f~ck ebu". Of wich act.

That disturbed me. I looked to see if anyone else had noticed this. Am I surprised that you're one of the first to pick up on that? No, I'm not 😊 It really disturbed me. "F**k EBU" is totally okay and absolutely right. But "F**k _EUROVISION !_ " ?! - that hurts ! Although I have to admit that this must be the very best and only possible reaction to process things right now. But: How and with what right could *_his_* ESC, which has given him such an important part of mental stability as a life goal for so many years, be destroyed to him like this? (Didn't he even work in 2014 (?) at the ESC in catering ?) How often did he say - even at interviews in Malmö - that the ESC was exactly his thing? And he seemed so happy he was finally able to do it, he put so much detailed work and love in it. If an event has _such_ a guest, it should do *_everything_* , really *_EVERYTHING_* , to give him one of the very best highlights of his life. What happened there is not only unforgivable, it can never be made up for. (And I'm not even talking about the character assassinations that will never completely disappear again ...) He may become very well known and have a lot of success as a result - but it would have been so much more important to be able to fulfill his ESC promise in such a way that it could act as successful therapy - his level of recognition in public would certainly not have been too low anyway. [Edit: I think, giving his beloved home country a great ESC party and a good time afterwards would have been infinitely preferable to him - instead of this hype about himself that's going on now.] Why did they do that to _him_ of all people?! 😥

At this time, monday late afternoon, that Vancouver performance , with that message of Joost, is already on all news media here in the Netherlands. Latest news: Joost demands more Dutch wittnesses and that the courthearing will be in the Netherlands. He' s fighting back. At last. The transfer of the court to the Netherlands, will take several months. ( all from the Dutch press). No " here in the media it rains" that one video part where you can here him: F~ck...etc. and the whole Canadian crowd singing europapa. This will go viral also.

So much is blocked today, I always have to search hard to find what I can receive. Thanks to your tip, I've just been able to look it up on NOS. Finally fighting back is good 🙏 But it's still all so unnecessary, so macabre. (And by the way, life shouldn't be easy for this camerawoman herself, there are certainly enough people now who aren't friendly minded towards her) So bizarre, such completely unnecessary BS !

I want to add something to your first reaction, where you refer to Joost saying " f~k Eurovision". It was spot on, what you said and more: that you noticed it, that he said " Eurovision" and not "EBU" That was the crowd. I Looked again, after your message. Yes, his real pain is his Eurovision drama. In recording to his big Dream. " oh man"..as Paul said in his first reaction here. Yes, oh man.. indeed. You can hear the emotions in Joost's voice when he yells that " f~K EUROVISION words at the crowd. A mix of emotions. Maybe he said in in an impulse but it is his real pain. It came out of his heart. More than to the EBU as institute although they treated hem so wrong , he adresses it to Eurovision, expressing his heart pain about his all, his big dream complety destroyed : his real message, typical Joost.

Canadians don't really have an emotional connection to the ESC: The jeering crowd that responded didn't sound like they realized they were just helping with burying a dream. And it wasn't just a dream ... it was so much more than that. The ESC has been a piece of home and a safe place all these years ... (If I understood correctly, the ESC performance was also supposed to help him let go and move into the future. Oh the irony ...)

I think what made it so difficult this year was the stress with Israel and the Israeli delegation bulling others and the Israeli sponsor (morrocanoil) and TikTok. They had to make TikTak content constantly. Stien says it was too much filming and that was without TikTok. Stien feels it’s awkward to say things about Joost or the situation because they are friends

That can also be the reason why Joost was kicked out but also the reason why Israël could paticipate and was there against all advice.

Joost was not wrong at all, whatever happened was a crime committed towards his rights. Shouting at someone does not mean that you harassed the person, we are all humans and when someone steps in your boundaries or tries to hurt you then shouting is the most basic human impulse. EBU acts like they have this utopian working environment, but quite the opposite is for the people working there. Joost disqualification has definitely to do with Israel, because in the latest announcement they made EBU stated that they feel bad some delegations tried to ruin the spirit of the competition by bringing politics into it. EBU tried everything to protect Israel, even though they literally harassed journalists, and made the contest the most political one to ever take place. IF EBU does not allow this kind of behaviour to their working environment then why didn't they disqualify Israel? They broke so many rules, and made a very toxic working environment, then why weren't they disqualified. This contest started with double standards and it ended with double standards. Unless EBU take this matter into consideration, then the future of Eurovision is over.

Sweden had hier niets mee te maken, behalve dat het op Zweeds ground gebeid plaats vond. De EBU is niet een Zweedse organisatie, en de EBU was hier heer en meester.

Esc is probably not for someone with mental issues. His team should have brought him help throughout the week. But, we still don't know what happened ??
