I agree with others ,thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Of all the tutorials ive watched none of them thought to turn the lights off when annealing to show what the term "cherry red" actually means visually. So thank you very much.

Thank you. When you are adding options that require the bands to be spread apart (using stones etc) do you do anything different with the soldering process or do you just solder and move them apart to the desired distance?
@melaniekline4895
@melaniekline4895 2 года назад
Hi Diane, thanks for watching. So, if you are adding an element between the waves, you would not nest them together when you solder the backs together. You would calculate the right amount of space between the waves to accommodate the bezel (or prongs) and solder the two together at one point in the back. Then sometimes your design calls for you to spread the opening in the front after you've soldered the two rings together. I do that using something cylindrical (like tubing or a pencil. I put it between the bands at the front and roll it toward the back until it expands them evenly to the right amount. I don't know how else to explain it with words.........

Thank you for sharing this ring and techniques. If I put stones in the ring, how do I have to do it? I solder the ring first and how do I get a stone to stay in the gap? Ik understood, that you make the gap rather smaller than the stone and then you open it to put the stone in - and then? Greetings Susanne
@melaniekline4895
@melaniekline4895 Год назад
Hi Suzanne, you will solder a bezel setting or a prong setting in the space. You may need to file a seat for it to sit correctly. Good luck!

Hey Melanie. I am enjoying all of your videos. Thanks so much. Can I ask what brand of torch that you are using. Is it acetylene only? I use butane torches now but need to upgrade. I will be trying to make a few double wave rings soon.
@melaniekline4895
@melaniekline4895 2 года назад
This one is the best one to buy for general work. I usually use a #2 tip and keep the pressure around 12. www.riogrande.com/product/smith-silver-smith-acetylene-and-air-torch-kit-without-tank/500105 But sometimes you really a min torch like this for hot precise work. You should own both someday. I have a splitter connection on my acetylene tank so I can run both torches from it. I'll send a photo for you later today. www.riogrande.com/product/smith-silver-smith-acetylene-and-air-torch-kit-without-tank/500105

What's dead soft? If I wanted to use a 14k solid gold wire to make a band. Does this matter? If so what kinda wire do I need? Also is soldering gold wire the same thing as wire?
@melaniekline4895
@melaniekline4895 3 года назад
Dead soft is a choice of the temper (less or more springy) that you can order from your supplier. It's your best choice for wire that you are going to bend or twist. 14k wire can be soldered with your same silver skills but with a smaller flame because it will heat quickly and melt.

Hi Ramona, thanks for watching! I have great luck with 4xxxx white diamond tripoli. I know others like the luxi products, zam, etc. I've never given them much of a try. When I did, I found the surface greasier and harder to clean than trip, even in an ultrasonic.

There are so many things wrong with the way you make jewellery, I don't know where to start. You make jewellery like a car mechanic would make jewellery - clumsy and ham fisted! If you were in the UK, you could come to me for some lessons. People - do not listen too much to what this person is telling you, most of it is WRONG! Phil (from philongold)

@@RosatheSilvermuse I am sorry Rose but you are not going to like this either:- Judging by what I see on your RU-vid site Rose, you don't know how to make jewellery properly (if at all) yourself. Furthermore, I will tell you what is not 'fare ' - that is, total armatures or beginners making comments about what I have to offer. I am a Master Craftsman with over THIRTY FIVE years experience of Designing and Making, Gold, Silver and Platinum Jewellery incorporating Precious and Semi-Precious Gemstones, many of which I cut and polish myself! I am not saying I am the "end-all-and-be-all of jewellery making, I have LOTS of things to learn, but I do know WELL MADE jewellery, when I see it, and what I see in this piece of Melanie's work, certainly is NOT it! Look at some of my work on my ETSY site and you might see the difference in the quality of workmanship. ATB Phil
