Doing the plumbing was a fun step and wasn't too hard to learn (similar concepts to electrical). Using the JG (John Guest) connector methods made it very simple also. I recommend installing tanks underneath your van to take full advantage of this space and save space inside. Hii Jaz Really nice video ....just a question that popped up in my mind Does the tank get Damaged When a Speed Breaker or A high ground come in between roads..cause it definitely decreases the ground clearance of the van right? pls do reply if you see
@@Himanshusingh-ef2xm It looks like it's the same level as the body skirt. I'm getting ready to start a van build with a similar design (Plumbing) except for I'm putting the tank inside the van so it don't freeze and crack in winter.
I could watch hours of this van build, no bull I am very appreciate of the craftsmanship, and detail your putting into the build, and taking the viewers along for the journey I just want to thank you, watching this van build gives me inspiration and creativity, and I just hope that you can keep up the patients needed to bring us along on the small details involved.
Thanks a lot mate! Really appreciate your support and everyone elses. It does take a lot more effort to film, edit etc but I think it is worth just to share with people :)
Agreed. Never thought to use 2 bits together to bridge the gap. To anyone who has tried to drill a larger hole over a smaller hole without a center, it can be a very sloppy and tedious effort...:-(
Yeah that was brilliant, I would usually use the bigger hole-saw bit to make a cut out on a bit of wood and find a way to clamp it down- usually a real pain. This is so simple this way.
This guy is simply a genius. Ive watched tons of videos and nothing comes as close in terms of simplicity and patience to explain every step. I feel genuinely encouraged to try build my own van one day.
Pretty impressive for a first timer. Been plumbing RVs for over 30 years now. Right now I build Class B motor homes, Sprinter and Transits. I have never been so appreciative of the vehicle lift in our shop as I was while watching you working on your back under that Sprinter. That can be a tight squeeze.
Nice work! My biggest concern is the whimpy straps you used @3:30 to support the tank. I’m pretty sure that they’re waay to light duty. You should have a look at the factory mounts for fuel tanks, etc. Especially considering that it’s probably going to weigh plenty when full, and think of the “live loads” while moving, sudden stops, etc. with all the water sloshing around.
You are a true technician. Loved seeing the plumbing “bits” coming together as they’re designed to work. The video progresses very well like a rehearsed play. I think I could duplicate the project using your video for instructions. Thanks for your great work!!
I have watched hundreds of caravan building videos in many different languages. This is the first video that i can understand how to install tank under the vehicle and how to connect plumbings. Thank you man!
Wow that's a big compliment I'm so glad you got some value out of it, (I have since upgraded my tank support), see my website link for episode 7, as it is much stronger and safer
@@JaznLori Thank you so much for spending your time to reply me clearly. I am watching your all episodes and i realised that i need to check your website too. I think i am gonna start my caravan project somehow. My decision was to convert a Fiat Ducato or a Citroen Jumper van. But i think Mercedes will be a good option for us as we are 4 people.
Very impressed with your first-time (!) plumbing skills & how you mounted as much as impossible underneath your van. The cutting board; brilliant. Great job! 👍
I'm going to remember the tip about using two holesaws on one arbour, previously in similar situations I've screwed a sheet of ply to whatever I need to enlarge the hole. I prefer your idea, plus it works where you can't screw anything around the hole.
Probably the best camper van plumbing install videos I've seen so far! Great job. I'm now convinced more than ever that I don't want to have full plumbing in my future build, seems like a lot of work with SO much potential for problems. You make it look easy but I know that came with years of knowledge and experience. Great job. New subscriber!
What a great build! I am about to do my van plumbing and have decided to use 12mm flexible drinking water hose with brass joiners and adaptors, instead of the John Guest system that you used. I did not see any pressure relief valve on your hot water system (if its an instantaneous system you probably dont need one). I am fitting a small 10L 240/24volt hws and it needs a pressure relief valve at the cold water inlet. Maybe you should inquire if one is needed. Your excellent work and attention to detail is very inspiring. Thanks very much for sharing.
Thanks a lot Norman for watching the videos, I have seen pressure relief valves on storage water hot water tanks before, not sure about on the instantaneous ones though. I will inquire, what would a pressure relief valves purpose be on a instantaneous system do you think? cheers for the input mate!
Amazing. You must be a plumber. I actually even understood SOME of that configuration. You are a good explainer. I'm about to start my own build so you've got a new sub.
Thanks heaps John! I actually have next to no experience in plumbing haha, I am an electrician. Appreciate the sub and wish you all the best too with yours!
I'm a plumber myself and you done a sick jobs on this! I'm just about to start a build myself and have got some really great inspiration and ideas from your videos!!! 🤙
Dude, you are awesome, I am building a school bus and you are answering so many questions for me, I will hit you up for advice as I go, thanks for your channel
Jaz, this was a very professional video. You really thought everything out, and it shows that you know exactly what you're doing. I like listening to your explanations of what you're doing and why. It is also fun listening to your accent. I was trying to repeat some of your words with my American accent but it was difficult for me. 😊
haha thanks Michael, yeah us Aussie's do sound funny to other countries and sometimes hard to understand. but super glad you enjoyed the series mate, appreciate you watching it!
Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into these Jaz. Would love to see the plumbing plans on your blog to gain some perspective! Can't wait for part 2
Mate, you‘re one crazy guy, you‘re doing a wonderful thing. The way you film, explain and work along with this amazing music!!! Keep on doing what you love! Cheers man✌️
Awesome Jaz. I'm up to this stage now in my van so it was very informative for me. Have been waiting to see what you used for the toilet base. Very clever!
Hope you don't go in any cold areas because your water pump will freeze and burst outside. Also you will have heat loss and heat transfer by zipping the 2 water lines together. If you are in a cold area you can also use heat tape to keep water lines from freezing. There are a lot of right angle connectors when the hose if flexible and can bend it and not take the chance of water leaks with so many connects - besides they can get costly. You need to insulate your water lines separately! Thanks for sharing your videos - Im not trying to be critical - just helpful!
What about the watertank, i'm afraid that could freeze... I'm mostly going to cold plaes as sierra nevada alps, pyrenees. I need to find a solution to that...
Excellent suggestions mate, thanks a lot for that. Definitely does make sense to segregate the cold and hot water lines haha! and to insulate them does mate sense. I will see how it goes and if I need to make adjustments I will do, Cheers!
A few have mentioned the exhaust proximity to the water lines and drain line. One thing that you'll have to remember, is to close your ball value off when you use the pump. If not, the pump will just circulate the water out the tank and back in through that closed loop, never building pressure to the other fixtures. Great job on the install.
Thanks yes since this video I have installed exhaust heat wrap which contains nearly all the heat extruding from the exhaust, so the pipes are safe. Thats right, if I left the "tank fill" valve open the pump would forever circulate. I can see you are paying attention ;)
Neat video! I myself am gonna go with compression fittings instead of quick connects. As a heavy truck technician, quick connects are easy and convenient, but eventually fail or have a higher failure rate. Compression fittings are great for long life applications
Great job young man. Very informative and step by step explanation was well done. Anyone doing van builds should definitely watch your videos. Again, nice job.
Thanks Maena! I did spend a lot of time thinking about it, but I also make things up on the go too and see how it works out which I think is essential in any build, not getting stuck in your mind and procrastinating to much
Hello guy very beautiful serial of videos very interesting even if I do not understand because I am French your videos are very explicit continuous like that haste to see the continuation(suite) the video on the installation of the gas I did not very well understand but with the video of the plumbing I deduct that from it you installed(settled) a boiler in the gas? It is good that you can confirm me. Myself am studying oven to convert a utility in the same style as you for road-trip norvége Ireland in the pleasure to read to you good luck and see you soon
Love your Van build Step by Step and for people like me whom have no Idea where to start to do some Conversation its fantastic.Ignore all the negative Responses, because you helped me such a lot and wished I would have watched your Video First on RU-vid before all the others . Keep up the good work of yours , because I think you are fantastic explaining things to the Joe Bloke and a lot made sense to me. I'm trying to build my own Van conversation and your Video was a great help.Thank you very much! The Baer!
Very professional mate. Glad to see you showing the tube end inserts.Supprising how many so-called experts demonstrate the correct way of fitting this pipe and fittings without the tube inserts. Why would you not spend 50c rather than risk a leak, because it will eventually, especially the hot
Awesome video Jaz. I'll be referring to this a LOT when it comes to our plumbing. I love the idea you came up with when comes to T-ing in the system to mains water when you get that opportunity to do so. Brilliant!
Excellent video, as usual! =) One small recommendation: I would put a one-way valve into the top of the breather line for the water tank. So that water can escape and overflow, but nothing can travel back down that line into your fresh water tank. You never know, but you probably don't want dirt or critters to go down the line and contaminate your fresh water. :)
Thanks mate! Someone else mentioned debri coming in from the breather line, and I will amend this by putting protective mesh on the end of the line, but the breather line needs to allow air flow in both directions because when running of the pump it sucks air in, and when filling the tank it pushes air out. good tip though thanks mate!
Hi Mate, you're absolutely right! I had completely ignored the fact that the pump will generate a bit of a vacuum when running, so yeah. It would be a little awkward if it couldn't draw air back in! ;)
