Just ran across your channel and this is first video of your’s I’ve seen. First off, that’s a lot of pup’s you got. Good on ya. Love it. Bet you have hair everywhere. Nice walk-thru and explanation of your Toy-Hauler. I am trying to do same as you. I got the travel/overlanding/dispersed camping itch a couple years ago. Went with a slide-in truck camper and utility trailer for SxS. Works well for me but I have aspirations of working remote and boondocking similar as you showed in this video. Gonna sell slide-in and upgrade to a toy hauler. It is being built now. It will be bumper pull 24’-0”; with 8’-0” living area at nose and 16’-0” garage in rear for SxS. All amenities; cooktop, oven, MW, fridge, heat, 2 TV’s, stereo, dual A/C, shower, 100 gal fresh, 100 gal grey, 50 gal gasoline, 90 gal propane & 800watt solar. I have 2 Chesapeake’s as travel/riding companions, and I love taking them out. I have small Dometic RM2354 3-way Fridge in my truck camper. As long as it is level, this thang works well for me. Frozen stuff stays frozen and beer stays cold in bottom. I have run mine 9 days non-stop 24-7 on propane and only burned ¾ of a 20lb tank. It does take 12-18 hours to get down to temp setting’s if it has been off. Just a suggestion. Keep on rocking and posting the pup’s in your videos, gonna go watch another now. rowdy

Absolutely, sometimes I sit down and think, "Wow, that is a lot of dogs!" But they are my family, and I would do anything for them. Yes, hair is everywhere! In my opinion, you are making the right choice. If I had the time, I would have bought a nice enclosed trailer, perhaps a Rock Solid, and customized it to my needs. I was in a rush because I sold my house, so as soon as it sold, I had to hit the road. I think I mentioned this but one of the main reasons I opted for a bumper pull is that if something happens to my truck, I still have a place to stay, and if something happens to my toy hauler, I can stay in my truck. Thanks for the heads-up on the Dometic; I’m going to check it out now! Even with the Yeti 110, I still have to add ice every few days, so I’m spending money on ice and gas to drive back and forth. Some locations, like where we are now, are about 45 minutes from the nearest gas station. Working remotely has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me. When do you think you’ll be finished with your build?

@@doggonenomads Yea man, my two chessies are family too. lol. Crazy, Goofy, Mischievous, Funny, Female magnets, Companions and can be a hassle sometimes too. But in the end, hell I love to see them out. Would'nt have it any other way. I contacted a Custom Toy Hauler Builder, and we started a design with the axle ratings, then the tire size and rating, then trailer frame cross-brace spacing and worked up. Took a month or so going back and forth on how I wanted layout and what accessories/wiring I wanted installed and where. Finalized in April 2024 and added to their production schedule. Set to be complete for pick-up end of Oct. this year 2024. Yea, my PROS: of going to Toy Hauler from Slide-In Truck Camper & Trailer is: #1 I can unhitch truck and drive away if needed. #2 SxS and equipment are inside, locked, out of sight vs being on open utility trailer at gas station, or rest stop or grocery store. #3 Once SxS is out of back garage, I have my man cave with deck. Cons: #1 I will not be able to get into small primo dispersed camping spots along creeks or tight roads or bluffs like the truck camper. #2 I will need to be very diligent about scouting routes in forest or BLM areas to allow for turning around.

@@ChesapeakeBayProductions It sounds like you’ve got everything under control! Just remember, even with a toy hauler, you’ll still be able to reach some incredible places. Almost everywhere we’ve been has been absolutely amazing! As for scouting, I mentioned this in one of my other videos, but I learned some hard lessons when I first started. Once, while in Quartzsite, I got the sudden urge to head to Colorado. I did some research (though not enough), loaded up the dogs, and drove for about 10 hours straight. I arrived at my destination around 1 a.m., only to find it was on top of a snow-covered mountain with a locked gate. I had to jack-knife my trailer to get out, which ended up bending my propane rack and damaging my tailgate. From that trip, I learned two key things: #1 - Just because it’s 75 degrees and sunny in Arizona doesn’t mean it’ll be the same in Colorado at 10,000 feet, lol. #2 - Don’t drive more than 3-5 hours at a time. Now, I travel during the day, usually on a Wednesday or Thursday, and if I’m unsure about the area, I’ll unhook my trailer at the entrance to the national forest (most have large turn-around spots) and scout it out first. The last thing I want is to get stuck on a mountain with no way to turn around. Speaking of Quartzsite, your trailer will be ready just in time if you want to head out to Quartzsite or Yuma. You can stay at the long-term visitor area for about $180 from November to April, which includes trash and water-a pretty sweet deal!

I was watching your video You should invest in 12v refrigerator and 12v AC unit so you don’t run your battery system down as much. I’m assuming you have a 120v AC and refrigerator. The best solution would have been a 48v battery system and inverter but you already have battle born batteries.
@doggonenomads
@doggonenomads Месяц назад
Good point, I have an inverter already (Victron Energy Multiplus 12/3000/120-50 120V). Yeah that refrigerator pulls too much for me to use so investing in a different fridge or a small electric cooler would definitely be an option. Thanks

How does the trailer do off highway being so low to the ground? Do you drag the back ?
@doggonenomads
@doggonenomads 28 дней назад
Yes I do drag sometimes and that is my biggest complaint. I think I talked about this in the video about trying to get the trailer lifted a few inches.
@benwest8656

@@doggonenomads they make boogie wheels you can mount on the back also.

I have in the past, but my heater is no longer working so I use my propane for my little buddy heater. Thanks
