Watching these shows in July 2024, each one of John's 2016 segments about Donald Trump get more and more on point about what we're dealing with today concerning that horrible man.
It's making me sad and nostalgic for those simpler, more hopeful times before he was "elected", or more accurately, installed by the electoral college despite the wishes of the American people.
Finland has the best schools. They banned private schools and made it law that every child is educated to the same standard, so the rich ensure that their kids have the best education possible. Which means *every child does*.
Makes the whole country more equal. Not only between genders.. We don't care as much about your income.. If you are a decent person who doesn't harm others, that matters more than your job, "class" etc
How are they taking public funding? By taking students out of the other schools? Then the other school ought to be cheaper to run now, right? This seems wierd. If a new public school opened, nobody would say they're siphoning money from the other public schools.
@@Uruz2012by invoicing for all kinds of unnecessary costs to their friends companies to take advantage and to rip off the public tax payers . Give your head a shake !
@@Uruz2012I'm not going to explain the concept of fixed cost and variable cost on RU-vid. But you can Google those terms and learn yourself. While you're at it, rewatch the parts about the poor oversight, overestimating students for additional funding, and a lack of quality. Then you'll be caught up.
Education and health care are human rights not businesses. How "the greatest country in the world" hasn't figured that out yet will never not be beyond me.
Worst current timeline, but the future isn't written yet. Our collective actions today, and the years to come could fundamentally change the society for the better, depending on what we do. Do we let the ruling class keep the divisive status quo owners profiting from exploiting workers to our own demise? Or do we stand up, unite and build a better system through collective grassroots, system change mutual aid action? Both options are available to us.
Jesus you guys are some downers. Pretty fucking amazing time line here I can sit in the sky on a plane. Simple fact you’re reading this from wherever, whenever. Simply just not having to wipe my ass with my hand makes it exceptionally better then ‘that’ timeline. Pretty amazing timeline, Debbie.
31:19 seriously as a teacher though I agree with the “no more homework,” sentiment. We should instead provide a review session at the end of the day. The students who are good enough to not need help won’t be affected and it gives our students who struggle a chance to get help.
The dates on the description for this video say it is for August 21, 2016 and posted on June 30, 2024, which is 2870 days later, or almost eight years. Oddly, the content of the video about Donald Trump seems surprisingly on topic. He proved he is a self-interested but clueless and unaware buffoon. How come we don't have any _admirable_ people running for president? We would do far better choosing someone at random!
I do so love watching these older episodes and it looks like with the politics it is just the same darn thing now that was going on then and it is frightening that TFG may actually be elected again. It's sickening
I mean, I knew the charter I worked for was top heavy, but they pull in over 2 million according to the 7,000 per student rule and teachers can make as little as 32k a year? That's just not right.... BUT what's really fucked up is that the school supplies budget per teacher per year is $200...
The corruption in this country knows no bounds! Everything is about money. Thank you John Oliver...one of the few voices of reason and accountability left in our country.
Private business has no place in having control over public schooling. It needs to stop. Americans kids are not receiving their right to an education. Appalling.
😂😂😂.. John Oliver.. Harambee is the correct spelling.. its a Swahili word that means pulling together.. so probably the school was pulling together with the strip club.. 😂
I can't believe anyone involved with the Olympics would disappoint us, John. I can't believe it. I can't. Next, you're going to tell me many of our politicians are corrupt. Say it ain't so, John. Say it ain't so.
Omg education is first, last, and always ANYTHING BUT A BUSINESS!! wtf! I don't understand how private, for-profit schools OR prisons exist in the first place! Any sort of universally necessary institution like that should be publicly funded, publicly run, and NON-PROFIT!! SMH 🙄😒😤😑
@32:35; Unfortunately, as we later found out, Trump probably wouldn't be able to recite that speech in whole, word for word, without getting sidetracked.
I wish more Colombian people watch and understand this episode of this show. What the far right wants to do in Colombia is the same as Charter Schools are in the US. Siphoning public money from public schools to be given to other people is disgusting.
Considering the Ohio Supreme Court just ruled that boneless chicken wings can have bones, I don't think I can trust an Ohio pizza shop™ to be regulated by them well either.
That Drumpf segment is just depressing. How can we possibly be back here AGAIN??! I really hope that, in November, we vote for being allowed to have nice things, and get a competent president. Harris for the win, PLEASE!!!
24:57 I don't remember which one, but one of the books about Trump's presidency said that after that televised apology, he told his staff that he hated it. He thought it made him look weak. And that he would NEVER apologize again, for anything. Which explains.. well, pretty much the rest of his life
One of the differences I personally observed is that in Public when you take a test and you a grade on the test that is your grade, in Charter school in Michigan the students were allowed to take the test over and over until they got an "A" in the real world it does not work that way or does it?
I live where John lives and have never heard them called pizza shops or pizza spots. Pizza place, yes. Pizzeria also a yes. Pizza shop is a definite no.
Trump being Trump. When he called veterans "suckers and losers, he actually meant it. The scene at Arlington National Cemetery was disgusting. If a Democrat did that, everyone would be talking about it. I think that Trump should be impeached.
This is the 23rd video I have counted, and yes I'm keeping count, that has Trump in it. I always thought the show should be called 'I shit on everything' but I think you just need to change it to the TDS Show.
A lot of charters conveniently close after the 100th day. They have collected all the per student funding at that point. When they clise, those students are absorbed into the public schools BUT that child's funding doesn't go with them, this putting a strain in the public school's budget.
Update on Ohio in the eight years since, the state has given about $a billion more in tax credits to increase charter school enrollment, which it hasn't, but rather just been used by folks rich enough to send their kids to private schools in the first place. And the Senate President recently said they did a whoopsie and accidentally sent too much money to public schools. Yay. TLDR; for as bad as this video makes it look in Ohio, it's now way worse in new and different ways
Sorry John, but Pink Floyd was right and you have misinterpreted it... "We don't need" means that we DON'T NEED what follows, "No Education" - speaks for itself, so if you look at it properly, it is saying that "We don't need a place with no Education"...
I'm not voting but trump is completely right how everything is broken. We should learn from all this and fix it just like how we need to start fixing potholes
I live in Florida and am moving to Nevada. Charter Schools are the only reason I can send my daughter to a good school without forking over $30-$50k a year on top of taxes.
@techninja3001 no, to a religious school. I'm not trying to be confrontational, I honesty want to know. Also, how is a religious school translate to a good school in your mind?
