I got into Jerusalem back in 1984. Saw their Can't Stop Us Now album in a Christian bookstore. I thought they looked like Van Halen, so I bought it. They sound like Van Halen too.

Thank you for watching and commenting; we are grateful! "In His Majesty's Service" was my first experience with hearing Jerusalem, circa 1988-ish, followed by "Dancing On the Head of the Serpent". I appreciate the various nuances the band delivered with each album. We were certainly privileged to be granted an interview with Ulf! Blessings! -Kent

I remember it like it was yesterday, when I heard Jerusalem for the very first time. A friend loaned me the "In His Majesty's Service" cassette and the power of the holy spirit coming through on that live recording really captured my heart as a young man who was just discovering all of the new Christian Rock and Metal band's coming on the scene. Been a fan ever since! I love their boldness, and Ulf's heart and passion for the Lord is such an inspiration to me. Definitely one of the great pioneers who helped pave the way for many band's we've come to enjoy over the years. Thank you for doing this! I really enjoyed it! Rock on for Christ!

@@brianrainsberger3417 It is our honor and privilege to be able to do this vodcast: May The Lord be glorified! I enjoy hearing his stories and of his meeting "online friends" in person. It sounds like Jerusalem is working on an English version of Stygn to be released sometime in the spring. The fact that Ulf references it being kind of a continuation of Warrior is exciting to me as it's probably my favorite Jerusalem album. I've listened to a couple of songs from Stygn and can say the music is pretty amazing. If the rest of the album holds true, this could be an amazing album. Thanks for the interview, which was a pleasant surprise.

Great interview once again Kent and Rex. I saw Jerusalem in concert with the Resurrection Band back in 1983 at a plce called The Rock House in Wilmington, DE. Resurrection Band was supporting "DMZ" and Jerusalem was supporting "Warrior." In my opinion, "Warrior" is a classic record, and way ahead of its time for Christian music. God bless you Ulf doe being a vehicle for the Lord. Kent and Rex, keep up the great work you guys are doing!!

Great interview, Ulf is the OG. His english is much, much better than I expected. For some reason I had the impression that was a barrier for him, but not at all obviously. Some of my very earliest exposure to Christian music in the early '80's was through Jerusalem's records. Namely Volume 2, then Warrior, then Volume 1 after (finally) finding it. Ulf looks and sounds great in spite of those medical issues. So encouraging that he's still walking the talk. I think that's more powerful and impacting for the faith than a lot of people realize. Looking forward to more blistering hard rock from the mighty Jerusalem!

I've actually found that Scandinavians do speak English and learn English much faster than any other parts of Europe, and I think part of that is their own language is closer to English than any other European language. In fact, if you listen to Old English, without the influence of French words, its practically a Scandinavian language itself!

Great interview guys! Ulf is a true pioneer and a man after God's heart! I am thankful of your channel and the common interest we share - the love of Christ through great music with these awesome artists being obedient and used by God. Even though Christian Rock started 10-15 years after mainstream Rock with the exception of proto type bands and artists based in churches and mainstream artists like Elvis releasing gospel type songs, this music has a long history and went full throttle starting in the late 60s and throughout the 70s with Rock and Hard Rock artists and bands like Jerusalem, Rez, Petra, Darrell Mansfield and a few others. Not all Jerusalem albums are full on Hard Rock but parts of Volume 1 and 2, most of Warrior, most of In His Majesty's Service, nearly all of Dancing, RAD, Those Were the Days, She and from what I heard Stygn is a hard rocker too. Can't Stop Us and Prophet are Rock albums. I find also that of fall the bands, depending on how it's recorded, Jerusalem's music changes the most from on studio record to when they play live that the songs take on a new life in terms of getting heavier live. The material goes from Rock to Hard Rock to almost Metal such as songs on Can't Stop Us Now. I am also surprised you mention me as well - thanks for the shout out. I was on an episode on Headbanging Zulu Uk's channel with Greg the Egg Blackmore Rules and we were discussing Christian Rock. Greg called me, "The professor of Christian Rock" where I would comment on the episode we did or on my episodes or on his channel I would give some information that he didn't know, ha ha! Keep the great work going!

I became a fan of theirs from the first time I saw them on MTV in 1983 with the song "Constantly Changing", which I thought was pretty cool. How did they get on MTV when other Christian bands couldn't, I'll never know. I guess they were seen as a "novelty", maybe? I understand Ulf became friends with Bono from U2, both of them being "Northern Europeans", they had that much in common. I'm just glad he didn't continue down that road with Bono, because that would have been the wrong direction. He did, however, go the opposite way when he went to that ultra conservative bible school, which ended up being anti-rock. So I think the Holy Spirit led Ulf on a spiritual journey to see both sides of Christianity, and he finally realised the truth was in the middle.

I think this has been my favorite interview so far that you have done. An absolute icon of Christian music.I love his sincerity about this not about being just a concert or a show, but about being what God wants. My favorite song is Constantly Changing, & my favorite guitar solo is also from Constantly Changing...Little shout out to Michael Crewe, I went to high school with him. I wasn't a Christian at the time & I remember him talking about Christian rock music & I said there is no such thing, but years later when I gave my heart to the Lord I ate my words because now I absolutely love Christian metal, rock, & hard rock music. Great job guys. Still hoping you will get Dennis Cameron of Angelica on your show. God Bless.

Warrior is such a great album! The drummer on that was incredible, but all the musicians were. I just wish their back catalogue was a little more accessible eg. Warrior (English) is part of "Jerusalem Classics 2" which includes the next album, Can't Stop Us Now, but 4 songs are missing in total. The first 2 albums (English versions) are nowhere to be found. Ulf talks about this topic a little bit at 56:11 and the excuse that you don't wanna "give it away" is poor. Why put any music on Spotify then? "Mr. Christian! There's not much time!" Treasure your legacy and look after it. It will be around a lot longer than any of us.

@TheLastCrusader22
@TheLastCrusader22 3 месяца назад
@@TheBrettWilson Streaming is an interesting thing, because it's easy to say "we don't make any money from it" but the alternative is physical sales, and how many people would actually buy Jerusalem records physically today? It is by no means, to me at least, obvious that they would make more money from that, especially not given the packaging costs and all of that stuff. If you look at Jerusalem on Spotify, and sure a lot of their fans might not use it, but even so, of the roughly 7 700 monthly listeners they have, most (all of the top 5 locations) listeners are in Scandinavia (Sweden and Norway) and I can tell you right now, even with the vinyl revival most people here are not going to buy physical Jerusalem records. You can lament that, but it's absolutely the truth. So maybe they don't make that much off Spotify, but would they make that much more from physical sales? Also, as a point worth noting, Spotify doesn't pay artists but labels so if anything they should take it up with whichever label or labels own their catalogue/catalogues on Spotify

Fun story about Jerusalem: My Mennonite father wanted to experience a Christian heavy metal concert with me and my friends. I was about 18. Jerusalem was playing in Pennsylvania. The concert was amazing. The music was so loud my father tried to sleep to get through his discomfort. Later Dad stood up and watched the show. Ulf was walking around the auditorium while singing. He walked up to my dad and shook his hand. It was a fun moment. I'm looking forward to an English version of the new release. I listed Jerusalem in my video about Christian rock.
