=============================
In this video, you will learn all the basic but practical information you need to know about the popular S7-1200 PLCs.
You will also gain a good understanding of the kinds of industrial applications they are suitable for.
Let's start with the basics of what an S7-1200 PLC is. It's a type of programmable logic controller manufactured by Siemens, used to control and automate industrial processes.
The S7-1200 PLC has two main components: the hardware and the software.
The hardware includes the power supply, central processing unit (CPU), input/output modules, and communication modules.
The software used to program the PLC to perform specific functions based on input signals from sensors and switches is called TIA Portal, which is also developed by Siemens.
- The 1211C is a starter model for the S7-1200 PLCs. It has less memory and fewer ways to communicate, but it still works well for small and medium automation projects. If you want to create an HVAC system, the 1211C could be a good choice for you.
- The next type of S7-1200 PLC that I will talk about is called the 1212C. It's a great choice for slightly bigger automation applications, like controlling the temperature of a medium-sized industrial furnace. The 1212C also supports PID control functions.
- The 1214C is a popular choice for applications that need more advanced automation, like moving materials around, running pumps, or managing small processes. With the 1214C, you can also create PID control functions with more advanced features.
- CPU 1215C is a good option for large automation tasks. By large automation tasks, I mean tasks that usually need high-speed processing and advanced communication capabilities such as complex process control systems, motion control systems, and large material handling systems.
- The 1217C is similar to the 1215C but it has more inputs and outputs. It's also faster, which is important for applications that need to gather data quickly. One example of an application that needs a faster PLC is high-speed data acquisition.
- The 1212FC, 1214FC, and 1215FC fail-safe models are designed not only to control machines and equipment but also to keep people safe. In places like oil rigs or factories where dangerous things can happen, it's important to have an extra layer of protection to prevent accidents.
The letter "C" at the end of the S7-1200 PLC models indicates that the PLC has a compact design. Even though they're small, they have built-in inputs and outputs. But, you can always add more input/output modules to them if you need to.
In terms of communication ports, all of the S7-1200 PLCs come with PROFINET ports that help them communicate with other machines.
But sometimes, you may need to use a different type of port like Profibus-DP, I/O Link, or AS-i to make them work with other machines. To fix this problem, you can add a communication module to your S7-1200 PLC.

Hey Realpars, thanks for the education Question, does S7-1200 have a special communication module for OPC UA?
@realpars
@realpars Год назад
Hi Aktsar Abidikar, Thank you for your question. Here is information that will help you with a link; OPC UA communication is supported on S7-1200 CPUs with firmware version 4.4 or higher. The CPU enables data access by supporting configuration as an OPC UA Server. support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/109781701/modeling-the-s7-1200-opc-ua-server-interface-in-tia-portal-?dti=0&lc=en-WW

Hi, may I ask one question about PLC. How does PLC measure digital value. How does PLC know it js open status or close status ?
@realpars
@realpars Год назад
Hello Adam, Thank you for your question. You asked an essential question: the basics of all electronic digital devices used today, including your smartphone. All digital devices work on the basics of “ON” or “OFF” or a “1” or “0”. All this is due to the invention of the transistor by Bell laboratories called the bipolar transistor. The bipolar transistor makes the PLC in different forms of electrical and electronic components. I am providing you the links to help you with your question and you’re learning. The last 3 are videos from REALPARS that you can find on RU-vid. I recommend you read or watch them in the order I give you. Please, is it possible to back up the software and hardware of the Siemens S7-1200 plc programmed with tia potlrtal V11, when I searched on the internet, tia portal v11 does not back up hardware, my equipment is working in good condition, I just want to have a PLC If anyone can help me, I will be able to pay for the help.

If you have purchased TIA Portal version 11, which is an earlier release from Siemens, you should indeed have a valid license. However, if you're using a trial version, please note that trial versions typically have limitations, such as the inability to save hardware and software configurations. Since version 11 is quite old (released in March 2015), it is no longer supported. The current version available is V19, which you can try for 21 days with full functionality. To upgrade from version 11, you will need to first upgrade to version V13 before moving to the latest version, V19. Direct upgrades from version 11 to V19 are not supported. Siemens offers licenses for these versions, and you can find detailed information about upgrading through the link I’ve included. This link will guide you through the upgrade process from version 11 to V13 and beyond. Additionally, depending on your location, you may be able to download trial versions by registering for free. For more details on Siemens software, please visit the main TIA site page linked below. support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/106449434/simatic-step-7-(tia-portal)-v11-sp2-trial-download?dti=0&lc=en-WW support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/109744173/documentation-for-simatic-controller?dti=0&lc=en-WW I hope this helps!
