As a Brentford fan with a long term fondness for Luton - since I shared a house in Cricklewood with a Luton fan and worked with one - I think you were unlucky to a degree with injuries and when I look back to our first season I think we had a couple of advantages. First our new ground was ready, second we bought a couple of key players. We didn't break the bank by EPL standards - although we did by Brentford standards. I also think we had a degree of luck in that playing Arsenal as first game in our first season was perfect. So we got a win in early. Which was a boost for our confidence from the start. We were predicted to go straight back down too. But injuries are a killer. We had 10/11 players out at one point this season too - for example I think Mbuemo's absence affected us more than Toney's. But you'll bounce back.
I live and I have my business that employs 35 people in Luton. I had the honour of giving out the signing of the year award at the player awards the other night and I would have loved the time to say to Gary, Rob, the players and you boys too for making such a huge difference to all our lives. I stood on the terraces in the 80’s when Luton the town was alive and buzzing. We battled the reputation of the town for years and now it’s changed and it’s thanks to the Hatters and the unity it has created. Keep the podcast going, you are part of creating that feeling of unity.
Forest fan here. I have a lot of respect for Rob Edwards, he puts his heart of his Sleeve if I was not a forest fan I would have loved Luton to stay up hope Rob can get you back up next season.
@steveunwin830 enjoy your last season in the Premiership, and maybe when the mighty Hatters are back there, you most likely won't be... Such a shame you won't be there... I hope you can make more friends then you did in the 23/24 season... Bunch of whining mugs... LTFC forever❤
Unfortunately you played us a week or two to late , as news about Moyes going was always going to give us a lift. Wish you all the very best for next season and hope you can return to the Premier league ❤
We were basically relegated that fateful night at Bournemouth We gave ourselves a lifeline with the first half performance, but then fell through the trapdoor in the second half. We now rest, re-set and go again in 2 and a half months. COYH!
Always thought we were ahead of schedule in getting to the Premier League. It's been good for our development, Rob and the team now have Premier League experience. With the new stadium coming, a healthier bank balance, great set of fans the future looks bright!
Montreal Hatters fan here. SO proud of the team, and the staff, and of course the Mighty Rob Edwards. Not to be this time round but for me I shall be back this autumn cheering The Town on. COYH
It is what it is. The players gave their all, even those that clearly lacked the quality to take us up. But we've made new fans, won a lot of hearts and go down with our heads held high. I do hope we keep Barkley, then build the squad around him to mount a new challenge next season. As for those complaining about Rob, I'd say 'get a grip'. He brought the team together and embedded the 'never say die' attitude. We love you Rob and THANK YOU! COYH.
We can't measure how well we have done by being only three points behind 17th and not necessarily even because Forest had a four point deduction which makes it 7 points but because WE only have 26 points. No one stays up with 26 or even 29 points, if we get a win against Fulham. We partly lost this season on games like Sheffield United at home and Bournemouth away but I still feel if we didn't have such a horrendous injury crisis for three months we would have probably got into the mid thirty points and that's the minimum you need to aim at to stay up. We had really started to learn by the second half of the season when the injuries hit us. If we could have carried that momentum we would be retaining alot of the key players for another Prem season next year who would start next year less wet behind the ears. So its really gutting.
As a Bolton fan only reason i want to be in the prem is to visit the grounds i missed when i was younger. Championship is a far funner division if we are lucky enough to win the playoffs. Would love to go to Luton away missed it this year in the cup.
I 'loved' the point James made about the three clubs who came up from the championship last season going straight back down !! The 'gap' IS ever increasing, and I think football has to do something about this, before, what has happened this season becomes a 'regular' occurrence !! Burnley spent 100 million pounds and STILL couldn't stay up, and really, just what is the point of teams being promoted from the Championship if NONE of them are going to stay there !! I never thought the PL was a good idea in the 'first' place, because, eventually, days like this were going to come !! I think football needs to find a way to give promoted teams from the Championship more of a 'helping' hand, particularly in their 'first' season in the PL !!
There should be no feeling sorry for ourselves, we fell short not by much but we fell short of whats required to remain in the PL. There's reasons for that and it's now time to highlight where we fell short and learn from that. We should start preparations for Championship today with the view that we'll be challenging to win it.
Hi all, great podcast. Having supported Luton for 60 years, I have witnessed several very painful relegations but you are absolutely right this is not one of them. We can only dream of what may have been without the injury crisis. Hopefully, we can keep Rob, the key players , and build with some new additions. How about a cheeky bid for Sambi? Looking forward to the Championship, its a great, competitive league, and hope to be around to watch the Town at Power Court one day. Kev and James, really enjoyed your podcasts keep them coming.
'Dad, I'm only 9 and Luton Town Have already given me the best day of my life' That was my son referring to being at the play off final and his response to the end of this season. It's a special club...We keep going!
Ever since the injuries we seemed to only have 50mins of high energy in us each game... Great effort by all, we knew our budget would lead to this. Will there be a big clearout in the summer or few in and a few out?
the Bournemouth away, 0.3 half time losing 4.3 and the Sheffield game at home was a big reason.imo. Luton can hold there heads up high, in a good place, good manager, stadium on the way.
In the trading markets after many years or months of continuously going up there is always a retraction, then a consolidation period there more likely than not another upward trend. I think that’s what this is, it’s very common in other walks of life. COYH
I think its unfair to criticise Chong at al. I think Rob Edwards needs to step up a bit. Bringing on Substitutes earlier is a must in the Prem. Its pretty obvious that David Moyes would target the existing team that came off at half time and I would have undermined that by taking off Morris and Fred and brought on Cheo and Woodrow for the second half. In that heat, two pairs of fresh legs would be essential. Other Prem Managers swap in players earlier in the game and not only on the traditional 70 mins.
I would question Chong's decision making at times. Against Everton he literally passed to Alfie on the side line. hitting him and going out of play - and Alfie looking at him arms raised saying 'wtf was that?'. Chong is great getting us forward but other players also lack the quality I feel for the next level
There have been moments REs has been star-struck or like a deer caught in headlights. I mentioned this from the very start of the season and I didn't see him learning this. The fact that Berry got such few minutes was a joke. If the squad was rotated and utilised more we may not have had an injury crisis.
I agree darth , RE has done his best , maybe wasn’t ready for PL sure he has learned and will get us back up . I am disappointed in the minutes Luke Berry got was a joke . I hope we keep LB . COYH 🧡
@@jennymccrory4604 I agree with you on all counts. RE seemed far too sentimental for my liking, his persistence with Pelly was frustrating it's as if he felt he was appeasing the fans. Would he have dropped Lockyer had he not had his issue? Burke, Mengi & Osho were our best options in defense but he kept insisting with Bell who has an error in him every game. He needs to be more ruthless in his decision making.
The definition of madness is doing the same thing again and expecting a different result... and we've already called you cheats, whingers, embarrassingly classless and morally bankrupt. Nailed it the first time.
Well that was disappointing.. what a boring episode. Where was all the sarcastic and cringey forest/Everton digs?? Suppose you’ve got no authority now you’re back to being championship nobody’s. Such a boring episode but still enjoyed every second of hearing the lack of enthusiasm in your voices whilst trying to kid yourselves that you’ll be comfortable in the championship 😂
Very interesting to hear your comments about Power Court and the community developments. Another essential building block to succeeding in the Premier League is the development of a top class Luton football academy. From your knowledge are the appropriate steps being to make this a reality in the near future?
As much as I'm proud and RE owes us no apologies and I'm excited for the future I still can't help but look back at opportunities missed especially if we end the season level with Forest which might happen. Always a proud Hatter no mattet what🧡
Back where you belong boys!! the league is tough and takes no prisoners!! Now your team will be stripped Barclay for sure! Don’t be surprised if Rob Edward’s now goes to a Premier league club won’t be long boys!! Enjoy the Championship!!
great escape over...never really started , you are now back in the championship and already talking about "WHEN", you get back to the premier league, that's a long, long wait!!!
All we need is a decent start against Fulham with 3 goals in the first 15 minutes, a couple of sending offs and Burnley to score then it’s game on 🤣 If only Carlsberg did Premier League survivals like this!
When we come up again? 😂😂😂 For oxygen maybe 😂😂 your forays into England’s elite league are over boys. Rob Edwards being described as ‘magnificent’ 😂😂😂 1 win in 16 😂😂😂 -31 😂😂😂 There has been turmoil and several points deductions in the PL this season, yet the 3 promoted teams have still been relegated, after putting up a pretty poor display if we’re being brutally honest. Implying that Luton have ‘hung in there’ or ‘kept going’ is farcical, if Forest and Everton hadn’t had points deductions, you would’ve been relegated weeks ago and the rest of the PL wouldn’t have had to listen to your whining. Joke club 🤡
I agree. As a Luton fan, it's quite an eye opener how this league is so sanitised and full of fake fans (not all clubs of course). But so many lifeless stadiums full of tourists. Players diving and crying. The Championship has great atmospheres at away grounds (and no VAR!). But the Prem is always the dream because everyone likes to stick it to the big billionaire clubs, and we came close a few times this season.
Great podcast guys. Excellent perspectives. Although I am a little disappointed in your lack of faith in our team, we are not relegated yet. If Burnley beat Forest, all we have to do is emulate that great day in 1936 when we beat Bristol Rovers 12-0....simple! In 2009 during our first season in non-league, I went to the Salisbury away game; believe it or not, I met an elderly lady there (a Luton fan) who was actually at that 12-0 game! She was only 5 or 6 then, but she remembered Joe Payne was a defender and was suddenly played as a striker in that game and scored his record 10 goals. So, to stay up this season, I have a plan: (pass this on to Rob 🤫), apparently, Hashi has a great shot on him. Put him up front and he will bang in 10 goals. Eli and Carlton can chip in... Job done. COYH... Believe! 🧡
@@lutontownsupporterstrust ha well said 😅. Sometimes when people live their entire lives on social media it can really damage their sense of humour. Taking a walk in nature, socialising with real people, can help remedy this 😊. I enjoy your podcasts guys. Great humour and brilliant knowledge. 🧡⚽
James words..Ipswich a small club? That's completely wrong hence they are infact a big club who also have European pedigree.. Also now wealthy owner's where I see them doing OK in the Premier league..
Luton Fans should not feel bad or have no right to feel bad because you were 99% on for getting relegated and the fact you finished 3rd from bottom is something to be proud of like you said you gave it a go And as a West Ham fan when i hard Ross Barkly was going off i know we we going to back in the game, he was coursing us big issue in that first 30 minuets a big lost for you
It's been the story of our season. We lost our top striker in the warm up before Man Utd and lost 2-1. Plus losing our best defender in such horrible circumstances too at Bournemouth. I am just glad you are not trying to take our manager like big clubs have in the past 😊
Really unlucky Luton gave it a proper good go! Despite having the worst team since Derby to ever grace the premier league & really managing to take games to most teams for 20 minutes before just being bettered by everyone you guys have done such a great job. Somehow managed to put up a fight having the worst manager, you've managed to make the other 2 promoted teams look even worse despite being so much worse than them. Such a shame to see such a small club not quite make it despite forest having refs give silly decisions costing loads of points, points deductions to forest and everton you guys have managed to make the worst standard of any promotion teams and still taken to (almost) the last day. You should be really proud and these guys are really making you proud on this pod, showcasing just how much spirit (of stupidty) your fanbase is. Wrexham will be premier league before you. #NFFC
There has been a good relationship with Spurs and Luton in the past regarding getting players on loan. So, as Mick Harford is head of recruitment, I would guess he was meeting with Spurs representatives. Luton's recruitment team are constantly working hard for any outcome. They will already be talking to potential signings about next season.
We will destroy the championship.....#COYH 🎩👏👏👏 I will say, Hashi and Osho were very poor this season. A clear out is needed. Adebayo off to Leicester and Barkley will go to a Premier club too. Our defense was shocking. But I am so proud of little luton.
Forest played three at the back last season and stayed up. How ‘bout that. And, I don’t know, perhaps you could have signed more players to mitigate the impact of inevitable injuries to key players during the season. Oh well.
@@lutontownsupporterstrustwho could ever have foreseen injuries happening over the course of a 38 game physically demanding premier league schedule and associated training loads. Only Albert Einstein it seems.
If your advice is to foresee literally half the squad being injured when they weren't during the only period that players could have been signed, and sign 13 extra players just in case, then I'm pretty sure Einstein would've struggled with an equation that worked for that lunacy.
Irrespective of who plays in what league and how many points anyone got, maybe try not cheating and then having your official club social media channel post out the most embarrassing toddler tantrum of the season, while continuing to act like classless, morally bankrupt crybabies. Maybe, just maybe, then you'll earn people's respect, because most other clubs got it. Be the change you want to see in the world.
@@lutontownsupporterstrust this coming from a club that screwed the tax payer out of millions !!! This coming from the club that smashed up my local 2 years ago in the championship before KO. Your podcast has no class. You want to call an overspend cheating compared to the people Luton intentionally cheated ? We've not robbed anyone of livelyhood. Enjoy the championship beavis.
@@lutontownsupporterstrust You keep saying things about morality and cheating when Luton were the ones who cheated and got punished for it. You think you are so high and mighty and funny to insult us but you probably should give that line a rest and just focus on the championship next season. We had points deducted and still finished above you. I fancy Norwich, Leeds and Burnley to go up next year assuming Southampton go up.

We’re okay, we gave it a go and due to a horrendous injury situation for 3 months just came up short. You enjoy your summer, don’t forget to sell off your best players we wouldn’t want to see you having to cry all next season over a poxy four points for cheating. Get plenty of overtime in to pay for your double priced season ticket. Perhaps there is somebody retiring from VAR you could employ in the close season. Hope you enjoy the shiny pictures of a nice new ground on the outskirts of Derby. Nice to know you have an owner that understands and loves your fan base so much.
@@LHSGardenServices gave it a go😂 you were horrendous throughout.. you had a glimmer of hope due to others under achieving and points deductions.. and you use injuries as a constant excuse.. our top scorer has missed most the season, our record signing the same. We’ve had a makeshift defence throughout. Yet you’re the team that constantly cries about injuries. I will absolutely thoroughly enjoy my summer keeping an eye on big transfer stories and anticipating more premier league football. But yeah I’m so ashamed of our ambitious owners pumping hundreds of millions in to our massive football club meaning we remain in the premier league 😂😍 my season ticket has gone up £40 to £550.. hardly a big fee for premier league footy?😂.. and I pay 30 quid to watch us on the road every week.. less than I paid watching us every week away in the championship at shitty grounds like your own. We’ll loose Murillo unfortunately.. but it will be for £50+ million and he’ll go on to be a Brazil regular of which I’ll be proud to see.. and our new chief scout we have poached from Benfica after 13 years working there will no doubt replace him with another gem.. yeah really tough time being a forest fan 😂😂
