Bästa, i always wanted to upgrade my sound system, it looks easy or you made it look easy, thanks for sharing man great videos on this cahnnel, keep it up 👍🏽
As a fellow Saab owner, Thanks for all your content! And as someone who learns a TON of stuff from you tube for working on my cars, I mean this only as constructive criticism: In all of the time you just show time lapse with silly music you could instead add some quick voice over details about the actual steps your doing, it would make it a way more useful video for people who want to learn to do similar jobs.
Thanks for Your feedback, i have thought about it. Just that i dont have so much time. And some say i talk to slow, some say i talk to much haha. But i Will give it a try some time
Mate- this is an excellent video- props to you. Just picked up an '02 9-3 today and need to change the headunit around. Had fitted a Pioneer double-din to an '07 9-3 estate and was curious if I needed to get a fascia for today's new arrival. Seems like double-din fitting will slot straight in (with a bit of work) so thanks very much for clearing this up for me. You make it look easy!
I admire people who prefer to do something on the car themselves than give to the mechanic. congratulations good job. Ps saab is my dream. I live in Poland in the city of Szczecin and the coat of arms of Szczecin is the same as the logo.
@@JonasKakarikas , yeah try it out. And go for the door and rear speaker replacement and add a 10" Subwoofer/box/amp in the trunk. I went with Boston Acoustics all around and even with the top down, the sound is awesome.
Made also sound system upgrade this summer to my 9-3 og. Front door damping with butyl carpet. 1 DIN headunit with built-in 3-way crossovers and time alignment and level adjustment possibilities etc. You can get those 1DIN headunits cheap nowadays with good DSP adjustment possibilities (e.g. Alpine UTE-92BT, Pioneer MVH-S520BT) second hand because everyone wants 2DIN. Active front including separate tweeters mounted on A-pillars and pointed towards listener without early reflection from the windshield, 6,5" mid-bass speakers to front doors and 4 channel AB-class amplifier to these front speakers (1 channel per speaker). 12" subwoofer with D-class mono amp. Crossovers, levels etc. adjusted from the headunit according to measurements made using calibrated microphone and REW software. Rear speakers disconnected because I dont want to listen music with multichannel stereo (imho ruins the stereo image). Cable to door speakers was already existing inside the door despite my car originally had no door speakers. Just had to do some DIY wiring hack from OEM amplifier connector found from the center console etc.
Another great video Jonas! I'll have to check the dims of my 2000 9-3 convertible speakers, as I bet they are as crispy as your old stock speakers and could use replacing as well! Personally I am partial to Focal speakers and will see if I can match up the sizes. Like A.Z. I like the look of the stock unit but some nice new Focal's would definitely help.
Hello! I have the exact same radio installed in my 9-3 and it petrudes like 5mm out of the dash, so I would like to know how did you get yours to fit so well? Did you use the cage that came with the radio? Did you modify your sid collar in any way?
Well, i had to laugh with your comment about the drink holder. It's my favorite part if my 9-5. Would like to figure a way to cut one into my mk5 Jetta. Seems it won't go vertical though.
I need help, my 93OG has stock radio but only the left dashboard speakers works, tryed with fader and balance but i think something is wrong with the wiring. Also i want to installa 2din radio what do i need to saw away?
Does the head unit come with the adapter plug? I can’t find anywhere to buy that and don’t want to waste money on a head unit that can’t be plugged into the vehicle
Do you have a video highlighting how to remove the cupholder on this model? I can't seem to figure how to release it . SID and stereo head were easy, but stuck on this part ! Thanks!
It just takes a screwdriver to pop up the grabs around the edge. The bottom one is a challenge. Then it’s just wiggling it back and forth until it comes out.
Hello! Great job and you made it look easy! Can you tell me if ever managed to get the steering wheel controls working? I have a OG 9-3 convertible and I'm going to install a aftermarket chinese double din head unit that has a connector for steering wheel controls. I'm not sure how interface the wiring with the OEM wiring. Any info you can offer, it would be greatly appreciate! Thanks!
Jonas, clear video, Thank you again. I have exactly the same saab 9-3 version 1999 convertable. I also bougtht a Pioneer (SPH-DA360DAB), but with DAB/GPS and microphone. Now I am wondering how it install these devices, and how to hide the antenna and mic. cables. Is there a clean way to do this? Also, you use the USB, but where do you let that come out? Thanks for your advice,
Hey Jonas great video awesome upgrade beautifully done, just one question I have a Saab convertible just like yours....but it’s a 2004 Aero convertible I’m not sure the OG model .... can you tell me if this would all work exactly “plug and play” like yours ?? Many thanks subscribed to your channel ....have an awesome day thank you Andrew Penman RU-vid⚔️
100w max showing on newer GAS speaker doesnt mean its going to be a nice upgrade (it will be if your older speakers are broken), but the better ones would be closer to the RMS output of the cars amplifier (which is 20W max). A 100w (probably 50w rms) speaker wont be getting the watts it needs from 10w oem ampilifier :) (Also sensitivity matters a lot. higher is better with the lowest RMS as possible.)
I have a 2005 SAAB 9-3 and it has the fiber optic stereo. I was told it couldn’t be switched then I saw a video where a guy switched his cd changer out for his new stereo. Can you possibly help me figure out if that’s what I need to do to or if I can change out the unit?
Jonas Kakarikas I went to an audio place and they said you couldn’t replace it with anything at all. Which you and another guy proved wrong so I don’t have much faith in them.
I am having trouble with my instal I got a Pioneer stereo and removed the factory version but have come across that there is a trim that splits the SID and radio did you cut this away on your car as I dont see your car having the same issue.
Hey! Very quick question, is this a Saab 9-3 Typ 1 or 2? You've answered somewhere that this is a year 2003, and both of them were build around that time, so Im not quite sure
@@JonasKakarikas Man, you are fast! You should be sponsred by Pioneer, because I just bought that same model with that information! The modding you did to fit it, didnt seem to bad. I should be able to replicate that! :) Big thanks!
might of installed it but its clearly not mounted... So how are you supposed to have it from flying out of your dash if there wasnt any brackets built..
Great job! I have a 93 og coupe and have added door speaker but i don't know where the wires are? Are there already some in the middle console? Thank you already!
How about the SID? Did everything Work as normal? You dont get radio info on the sid do you? I just replaced my rear 6*9" with some hertz ones, i drilled out the connector on old speaker and soldered it into the new ones, you video made me think maybe i should check my front speakers too!! Mine properbly looks like your! I like your videos, they are great :)
you are lucky with your original setup, i had to buy a £55 aux cable and got charged £110 to have it fitted and married to the system so it would work. nothing on my 2005 93 linear soft top is plug and play. i might check out swapping my speakers though. just out of interest do you have any leaks with the roof/door seals?
Yes, i some small leakage from a few spots. Noticable when the car have been parked outside in heavy Rain and you start to drive. Havent looking in to it yet since it isnt a big issue
@@JonasKakarikas i am trying out using silicon spray on all the seals on the car. it supposedly softens and expands the rubber so making a better seal. ive only given it one coat so far, my drivers door is the worst. waiting for some decent UK weather to give it some extra coats. i kind of wish i'd just got a hard top now, but hopefully ill sort it out. also the central locking button in the drivers side door no longer works, again i think this might be due to water damage inside the door. it lights up, but just doesnt lock the doors
Jonas Thanks for this I am going to attempt to replace my head unit and all speakers front, doors and rear. Can you list the parts and models numbers of the stuff you bought in this video? Did you buy online? website?
Mvh Eric
I don't understand does this bypass the factory amplifiers? and where on earth did you get the adapter plug? I have a pioneer head unit I would love to put in my saab 93
No tech2 needed, just plugnplay. Its standalone, no communication with The sid. You could by a harness to get steeringwheelbuttons to work but i choose not to 👍
Är inbyggt 4x50w i huvudenheten. Men när midbasarna ska i kommer ja även montera antingen 2kanals eller 4kanalssteg beroende på om jag även tar högtalarna bak 😉
