Man that is one mean Saab. My son and I bought a 1991 Saab 900s and we are going to convert it to rear wheel drive. Would be nice to get a list of drive train specs.
Thank you! What a fun project to share with your son! :) Its a long story but I suggest cutting up the floorboard big enough to make room for a drivestaft tunnel and exhaust. Remove the gastank and rear "axle". Make room in the back for a proper rearaxle depending on what you will use. First step (after having your engine setup in the right place) should be to choose gearbox. I used bmw gearbox, driveshaft and rear axle. When you have chose gearbox you need a converter adapter or "simply" swap out the flange that connects it to the engine. This requires precision cutting, measuring and welding. When this is done I would go backward connecting the driveshaft and measuring the length of it. You want it to fit in between gearbox and rear axle perfectly in the right angle. So from here you need to bolt the rear end/axle to your chassie. I built a frame on top of the rearend that I could weld into the chassie when I had it setup where I wanted it. I knew where I wanted it to be by bolting wheels to the rearend and then simply lifting the rearend up into the wheelarcs. The wheels centres the rearend by doing this. I hope it helps a little.
