Flight Demonstration - Trade Tuesday Farnborough Airshow 2016
The Saab JAS 39 Gripen (English: "griffin") is a light single-engine multirole fighter aircraft manufactured by the Swedish aerospace company Saab. It was designed to replace the Saab 35 Draken and 37 Viggen in the Swedish Air Force (Flygvapnet). The Gripen has a delta wing and canard configuration with relaxed stability design and fly-by-wire flight controls. It is powered by the Volvo RM12, and has a top speed of Mach 2. Later aircraft are modified for NATO interoperability standards and to undertake in-flight refueling.

Fantastic Gripen :-) I adore combat aircrafts by SAAB: Draken, VIggen and now Gripen ... Unfortunately my country (Italy) decided to waste a lot of money buying that crappy and flawly F-35 ... :-( ... Gripen could even replace our Eurofighter Typhoon that is a very capable airplane, of course, but it also costs too much ...

Well duh, the Gripen is tiny and very light. An F-35 is twice as heavy.

Pound for pound Gripen has more wing area, more thrust & less drag than a lot of other aircraft so it pull off those spectacular maneuvers.

+Andreas Abrahamsson F35 pilot would never see a Russian fighter, he wouldn't have to. That's the point of it. Do you really believe they would show everything that the F35 can do? Unlike most of the fighters here, the American fighters are not being displayed to find buyers.

the American did a huge job of selling the fighter when it wasn't even developed. It's already outdated and can't escape radar. It's a sales job through anf through. Generals say it will replace the A10. It can't loiter, provide support and if one is lost that's about the price of five old American carriers! Which are also dinosaours but behind all this is people making money. In the Iraq war a 10 cent plastic plate were bought by the US Army for 10 Dollars - well, that goes a little to the 3 trillion missing from the pentagon!

According to the Office of Testing & Evaluation (OTE) & the Govt. Accounting Office (GAO) the systems which might give the F-35 an edge continue to be defective. This includes a number of classified systems. Finally the 3F software block, that was supposed to correct all the bugs, is not, in any way, combat ready. All of the above is public knowledge & is not disputed by the Joint Program Office.

The F...what? In Red Flag 2014 one Gripen had four raptor takedowns. The EF had similar results. Forget that american pigeon. :D

And yet, for some reason I'm getting the feeling the pilot wasn't pushing the plane to its limits except perhaps during some of the snap turns. Sweden makes some pretty amazing planes. I read that Sweden has bought some of the tech that went into the F-35 and will be using it in a new design. Now that should be very interesting indeed.

Do you have any source of that? Because Gripen already have some of the tech that's in the F-35 and have had it since the 1990ies.

I think this is the Gripen NG. More thrust & 40% more fuel capacity than earlier models. Definitely an impressive demo!

The "Gripen NG" was just the test, evaluation and marketing version of the future Gripen E/F version, which is going into production in 2019, and hence no Gripen NG is currently flying today (not even the test and evaluation unit (which do not represent the final product anyway)). This is the second generation of Gripen, Gripen version C, the main version of today. In 3 years we will hopefully see the Gripen E "NG" in the air! :)

Nope. This is the standard aircraft (It is not showing turning capability at all).. The Gripen E will have upgraded everything. 20-40% more thrust depending on engine (20% on the one built now). 40% more fuel. Worlds first GaN electronic warfare suite. Swashplate AESA.. The Gripen E will be hands down the most capable bang for the buck.

Sweden, it will however be built in brazil for the Brazilian market and possible future markets. The Swedish air force will however buy their planes from Saab and they will be built in Sweden.

It's a standard landing. They are designed for it. Look at the landings on videos. All Gripen landings look pretty hard and direct. They're meant to deal with the business. Not fragile.
