Thanks for this. I'm about to re-do the ribbon cables in my Mercedes E270 CDI gauge cluster, and I wanted to know how to use the soldering bar properly. They're only narrow ribbon cables compared to that one, so it should be easier.

Complete NOOB question: Don’t you have to apply some solder onto the pins of the pcb, before applying the cable ribbon over the pins and then, using the hot bar? Or is the hot bar suppose to melt the ribbon cable’s plastic, to glue both surfaces together? Please let me know, I’m trying to learn. Thank you

Top tip I use is to stick the ribbon down at the sides before applying heat. Stops it slipping out of position. Also I didn't see you add the flux to make the solder flow ? Great music BTW. Very relaxing while we work 🎻🎶🎻🎶🎻🎶

Cool vid. I am about to repair a pocket computer with two flat cables, both vertical and horizontal. It is also the original screen, and no replacements can be sourced. So, here is hoping!
