dunkin doughnuts ... or saab/ford doughnuts ... NEC trip looked good, 6R4 made me weak at the knees and seeing the 2 door range rover brought back memories of welding inner wings footwells and door sill repair panels 25yrs ago lol ...
super enjoyed the car show. a chance to see whats cool from the other side of the pond. reminded me my friend bought a new Ford Cortina in '68 or'69 while stationed at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Mississippi.
Matt Your Fab Skillz are Second to none but damn bro I need Want Miss Lust for the ¨Mongrol¨ Please Bring her back to the channel soon I am dying here lol thanks From the otha side of the Pond Vermont Murica
Woo hoo DONUTS! I subbed to this channel to see you do some donuts. Didn't think it would be this long or this car but I'll take it! Lol Just kidding Matt! I love your channel and you've been doing awesome with it! Seriously, its one of my top 5 channels and youtube is all I watch so take whatcha will from that. Cheers mate!🍻
Saabs have 6mm i.d. nylon fuel lines. Same size feed and return. The nylon line fits straight to that banjo and return side has a section of rubber hose between the fuel rail and plastic line.
I love how after watching both this video and Trev's take on the NEC show it's almost like the two of you were at two completely different shows! Some very cool stuff on display.
HI another good vid, I saw you at Alton towers in the summer and said hello, quick question, I asked ages ago but have lost your reply. Who does the Saab conversion wiring plugs etc, I have just got my hands on an engine for my karmann Ghia.
bellhousing to fit the gearbox to the engine (probably an adapter plate) and engine mounts to suit mounting points on the engine and the mounting points on the car. theres nothing really any different between FWD and RWD except the direction the engine is mounted, and getting a SAAB engine mated to (presumably) a Ford bellhousing in this case.
What was the grey car at the NEC, looked like a Datsun;- whatever ubercool, maybe magnum should start producing those as well!!. Good to hear the Saab motor up and running.
Hi Matt, she’s going to be a flyer! Will be good to see her out and about. May I give you a little bit of advice, those rubber bobbins for the exhaust won’t last long, they are designed for compression (mounted to be pushed together) the way you have them mounted they are in extension (pulling them apart) they will split and fail quickly. I have seen this happen on many customers cars, a way round it is to make a bracket that mounts to the top of the bobbin from the exhaust, and the one from the body going to the bottom of the bobbin if you understand what I’m trying to say haha Keep up the good work, can’t wait till the Mongrel is back. Cheers
Hey mate, Im in Australia and work with and Irish bloke who use to race mk1 Escorts. He was telling me that Australian Escorts are about 1/3 of the price and is even considering buying a couple to fill a container and ship them back. Just another option, also being so hot over here there's not that much rust.
"Why did you install a SAAB engine in a Ford Escort?" A Cosworth 4 cylinder engine would of been much betters. SAAB engine are temperamental and not very reliable. "HECK, a Mazda 3 cylinder rotary engine would be more reliable than a SAAB engine. Stick a 106m.m. GARRET turbo on the Mazda 3 cylinder rotary and get 600 h.p. after a dyno tune, but I guess you used what you had. I'll shut up now.
Holy crap. That NEC show had better stuff than SEMA! It was like what SEMA used to be around 15 years ago. Now its all Supras, wheels and rocket bunny. Lol (its not but I'm sure you know what I'm saying.) Thanks for sharing that footage! If you have any more I'd love to see it.
G'day from West Australia, 😉🙂👍👍 Hmm rubber donuts stamped on bitumen tarmac would be fun for you after 4yrs trying to complete the build. And of course have a family life and pay the never ending bills thrust upon the human race. Wish I could be there to smell what brand of rubber you be burning 😉🙂👍👍
Cool 👍🏾👍🏾 how much for the new body escort? Say they would be expensive 😑 would like to do up mark 2 escort one day just not many cheap car's here in New Zealand they want to much for them but may be I can find one one day I need to sort out my tools
Matt l think your problem's the bonnet stays too level😱😨😰😵😎 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 The pressure line is usually smaller than the return.......just like oil into turbo😇😇😇😇
Matt seems to like these Saab engines, he has 1 in the drift rod that he built. Seem to be quite capable, but as to why he chose that particular lump only Matt can explain.
They are cheap, put out great power, and are built right from the factory for running turbos reliably!! Adapt easily to upgrading - Oh yeah - are simple as hell, and very easy to work on. Also, even though Saab is no longer, parts are plentiful and inexpensive!!!
They are dirt cheap and make good power. I ran a C20let engine in my last escort and would have liked to run the same but that would have cost me £2000 plus just to get going whereas the saab engines are about £200. If money wasn't an issue I would be running an Na C20xe on throttle bodies but those are crazy money for a decent one.
How this show could be classic without group b rally cars?especially those 6r4s,lancia integrales, sierra cosworth and talbots...if only their engines sounded even a bit!that's why we're waiting your escort to start spinning some tyres!step by step it will!hope low temp will help that poor snail spin over quicker!
These engines are basicly a bullet proof c20 let (cav calibre turbo) due to the highest section rods as standard so I'd throw a little money at a turbo n management as the block is good for at least 400bhp
First FWD Escort we had in the UK (Europe) was the MK III if I am not mistaken? My cousin had a Mk II RS Mexico (1600 cc) and ALL the local farmer's son's had RS2000's....both Mk I's and Mk II's...good old days...
@@malcolmyoung7866 Our mk1 was loosely based on the euro mk3, but our mk2 and 3 shared a chassis with the Mazda 323. So when Europe got the RS Cosworth our hot hatch was a rebodied 323 with a Mx5 lump 😞
Well done Mr Urch, another cracking video. Off topic to this video; I subscribed to the channel a week or so ago. Sat with a newborn sleeping on my chest in the early hours, I’ve blitz through your Mongrel build and several other bits. Needless to say, your talent, patience, dedication to both your craft and this channel is fantastically inspirational and makes for top notch viewing. I also really appreciate your honesty about where you’re trying to take this all and the rollercoaster of running and aiming to live off a RU-vid channel. Having dipped in and out of car related hobbies. Along the way I went to an evening course for gas and mig welding, in an attempt patch up a couple of BMW E30’s. As a result I never got round to weld a car, but have developed a lot of enjoyment of metal fabrication. I’ve learnt, to get good at welding the key really is racking up the hours with a welder in your hands. However, the content you have on this channel has saved me many an hour of trial and error. This may seem a little self indulged, but it’s really to say well done chap, you’ve given a basic level (part time) metal work enthusiast a lot of joy and fulfilment watching your projects. People that comment on a slow down of content etc. don’t appear to appreciate how much work goes into running a show like this, especially at what looks to be a one-man-band, and that if they wish, they get all this for free. There’s a lot of love on this channel, so keeping doing what you’re doing. PS, I’ve ordered a tee and have made a contribution to keep that hungry Mongrel fed. Greg
Glad to see the axle to shell(anti tramp) bars with poly bushes. When I first saw the lowering blocks I thought the springs would wind up like an S shape and tramp worse than Steve Mcqueen's Mustang! Then I spotted the bars.
hmmm pictures from that show gave me an idea you could try on the channel , build a custom motorcycle frame , think you got all the tooling for it , might need a welding table setup for the frame could be sumting wild like a scooter with a big engine
Were the fuel rail outlet smaller than the inlet, it could cause an unwanted rise in fuel pressure. There's always less restriction in the return than the feed.
Its an omega v6 box r25-28. I havent broken one yet so im not sure on that but a lot depends on how you drive and change gear rather than the horsepower.
how much would that car be worth as it is i like to no the price of things i dont no why and i would love to have it good work keep the vids coming on this car
@@garymallinson2292 Ah. Yes makes sense. You can get some very good half shafts for these now. And various diffs. The Atlas is very heavy and too wide.
NEC is the National Exibition Centre, in Birmingham, UK. They hold many events covering literally anything you can think of, motoring, home and garden etc. etc. This classic car show included, which I attended, and it was pretty class. Think Sema has more high profile built cars from what I've seen.
@@Urchfab thats what my dads going to do with hes mk1 escort estate but hes saloon has a v8 in the front of it, thats hes drag machine if he ever its it running but i love your videos so keep up the great work!!
