This is hands down the best reprisal of a song I’ve ever heard in a movie. First of all, the lyrics are so so perfect. Meera had grown numb to the pain of being apart from Samar, but seeing him, touching him, embracing him again makes her realize how dark and empty her life had been without him. The imagery of a burst of morning sunlight and the feeling of having held your breath for an eternity and finally being able to breathe again… I’m crying again just thinking about it. Secondly the way the instrumentals and melody slowly build and warp, finally falling back into the original rhythm and melody as the lyrics say “mujhe saans aayi…” makes for such a beautiful and poignant cathartic release as the two soulmates are reunited. The song makes you feel that, despite all their stupid issues, Meera and Samar belong together and should never be separated again. I have a long list of grievances with this movie, but this one moment alone is enough to land it squarely in my top 10.
