I've watched a dozen or so Saatva reviews on RU-vid and yours is absolutely the most concise and informative. Took your online quiz and it also recommended the Saatva for my needs. Helped me confirm my decision. Thanks!

I have literally spent three entire days watching your reviews on the various mattresses. After getting complete information overload on all of the technology out there, I finally purchased this bed. I was leaning towards the soft version, due to shoulder issues and having my arms fall asleep and hands tingle, with neck issues and lower back. However, after speaking with the lady, Yasmin, at Saatva, she told me to get the luxury firm. So, now I"m a bit scared, but they will exchange it for the soft for $99 if I am not happy with my choice. All in all, I'm excited to get the bed and especially excited about the adjustable frame. Originally was going to go with the split cal king, but the regular cal king was substantially less money. I hope I have no regrets on that choice. I will update after I have at least 30 days of sleep on it. Thanks for all of your thoroughness and comprehensive reviews. I bounced back and forth between the Zenhaven, Spindle and Helix before pulling the trigger on the Saatva.

Hi JK -- Good luck with the Saatva! And please do report back -- we'd love it if you could leave a review on our site, which can really help other shoppers considering the Saatva. You can do that on this page when you're ready. www.goodbed.com/review-mattress/model/saatva-custom-slim-luxury-firm/ Meanwhile, I'm very happy you found our website helpful in your search! There are a LOT of mattresses out there and mattress shopping is hard enough to go through once -- so it's good that you did everything you could to get it right the first time.

@@tamarap1123 Unfortunately, It is terrible for my particular situation. I got the luxury firm against my better judgement because I was influenced by salesperson, more than my own intuition. Since they charge $99 to exchange for the Plush and I read reviews that state the Plush is very hard, I've decided to return it and continue my search. I woke up VERY sore, hands were asleep, neck pain, shoulder pain. There is NO give at all. I"m so bummed!

I purchased a Saatva in 2015. Within 3 years it sagged more than 2 inches. They replaced it at my expense of almost $300. It's now 4 years later and the same thing happened. I have a lifetime warranty but now they want me to pay for them to repair my mattress and leave me with nothing to sleep on for 5 to 6 weeks. This is frustrating since it's the second time it's happened. Just know the specific details of your warranty with this company.

Unfortunately we are one of the few that did not do good with this mattress. My husband and I both have back problems. Originally bought the middle (common) mattress. We had just passed the return time frame but Saatva was going to let us send it back. I was not aware of the $99 return fee. The customer service representative talked me into the plush version of the mattress. I also bought the matching boxsprings which made it to where I did not have to pay the $99. We have now had this mattress for 1 1/2 years. We are both in so much pain it is unbelievable. The other day I was changing the sheets and realized the sides, my husband's side is worse than mine, has collapsed outward. The only thing Saatva will do is send us a new mattress. Neither my husband or I feel there was much of a difference between this plush one versus the middle one. When the new mattress gets delivered it will stay in the garage until we find out if we like the new one we bought from Puffy.
@goodbed
@goodbed 4 года назад
Hi Tammy. Did you get everything sorted out? Once you are past the trial period, problems like what you experienced are covered by the warranty, which would include replacement of the mattress with a new one. We also did not feel there was a huge difference between the Saatva luxury firm and the plush.
@spoonman01

FYI: I owned 2 of these Saatva's. One was the 14"inch height, and the other the 11" height. The 11" was significantly firmer than the 14" one even though both were the Luxury/firm model. The 14" one was a perfect bed until after 4 years the top started dip and then it was never the same. The 11" one was sold to a friend who prefers a very firm mattress.

I've been sleeping on the Saatva mattress you are reviewing and you hit the nail on the head with, 'you feel more that you are sleeping ON the mattress and not IN.' (or something like that). I am trying to decide between a more cuddly mattress like a Purple 3 or Casper hybrid and this Saatva which is $1000 cheaper. I am not sure I like sleeping ON tho.

Hi Kevin. We're glad our video was helpful to you. All of our video reviews include the "sleep in vs on" discussion - we call this cushioning depth. Thank you for posting this, as I am attempting to preemptively search out a list of potential candidates before my husband is yet again fed up with our current bed, and becomes tempted to impulse-buy yet another bargain-price "special, limited-time" matress at Sam's Club. (I think I never want another Sealy or Serta again!) I wanted to suggest one item that would be quite helpful to see reviewed - how well standard or deep pocket sheets actually fit the matress with use. We currently have a pillow-top Serta with an additional memory foam topper to make it bearable to (sometimes) sleep, and although the combined matress height is 14" according to a yardstick, I had to buy sheet suspenders to keep deep-pocket sheets in place on this bed. Without them, the sheet corners continually pop off the matress corners and bunch uncomfortably in the middle of the night. This is something that absolutely impacts restful sleep, and it would be lovely to see this addressed in matress reviews. Thanks!
@goodbed
@goodbed 6 лет назад
Hi Dee -- Thank you very much for this suggestion! This is certainly something we will consider. In the meantime, here are a few things about this topic that might be helpful for you to know: 1) Part of the problem you're having right now is likely due to the fact that your topper is not part of your mattress. When you place weight and move around on a detached topper, it often causes the edges of the topper to move, either side to side or more likely up and down a little. And of course, each time the edge of the topper moves, it brings the fitted sheet with it, which eventually can cause the elastic on the fitted sheet to scoot enough out of position that it pops off completely. Put another way, for any given set of sheets used on any given mattress vs. a mattress + topper that is the same total height, you are more likely to have this issue with the mattress + topper. 2) As you may know, there are hundreds (if not thousands) of different sheets on the market. This variety is enough to provide good options for basically any mattress (the possible exception of a few outliers on the extremes). Some sheets are deeper than others (even amongst those that claim to be "deep-pocketed" sheets), some have better elastic on the bottom, some have stretchy fabric, some shrink more when they're washed, etc. The reason I mention this is that there is a lot of variety out there, and not a lot of standardization when it comes to the terms used to describe these products, such as "deep-pocketed." So even if you were to see in a mattress review that a given set of "deep-pocketed" sheets works on this mattress, please note that this wouldn't guarantee that another set of "deep-pocketed" sheets would work just as well. I hope that's helpful.

Me and my wife bought this mattress. It starts out great, but by morning we have the “trampoline effect” where you gravitate to a hole in the middle by morning when it heats up. Granted it’s not nearly as bad as other memory foam beds but I think we are going with another brand or traditional mattress after this. We are both average weight or under and are kind of disappointed.

@goodbed
@goodbed 6 лет назад
Hi Bev -- Thank you for letting us know this was helpful for you! In terms of your first question, if I understand it correctly, the answer is that the comfort level of the mattress should not vary at all by size. The only thing that should vary is that for a smaller mattress like Twin XL, the firmer edge support that goes around the perimeter of the mattress will be a higher percentage of the surface area of the mattress than on a large mattress like King. Re: your second question, each Saatva mattress is available in two thicknesses -- 11" and 14". The 11" versions are compatible with an adjustable base. Other than this compatibility, the difference in thickness is meant to be strictly an aesthetic difference with no impact on how the mattress feels.

I am wondering if there is a orientation of the mattress. Does the name of the mattress go by your head or feet? Also, if we do have to change, do you know what the softest bed they have? I cant say this bed has been comfortable since we got it, in Feb. 2021.

This will be our fourth mattress that I'm thinking about purchasing in the last 6 months.. It seems that every piece of advice doesn't reflect us as a couple but I still look for help.. Every memory foam mattress we've had has absolutely killed my back and left me sore all day.. I'm thinking I must need a stronger support for my back.. We bought a cheap mattress at furniture Liquidators that is firm and my back pain was not anything like it was but I would still wake up stiff.. My husband prefers a softer feel but he'll deal with it as long as it's not so firm his limbs are asleep.. I'm really thinking about purchasing this mattress as the memory foam layer seems very thin and it has more coils the whole way through.. we are both side sleepers..I'd appreciate any advice someone could give on this for me..

Would you recommend the plush soft mattress for a person who is 250 lbs? I like a soft mattress, I'm a stomach sleeper.
@goodbed
@goodbed 7 лет назад
Hi Sabrina -- Thanks for your question. This is tricky because your comfort preference and your support needs are in direct opposition! But IMHO your support needs are more important -- so I would definitely side with them by ensuring you don't choose a mattress much softer than medium. The softer the mattress, and the heavier the sleeper, the more the your hips will sink into the mattress. And for a stomach sleeper, having your hips sink into the mattress is a surefire recipe for back pain. I hope that helps.

Hi Rebecca -- In traditional mattress parlance, "Luxury Firm" means medium. In recent years, most brands have switched to using the term "medium" instead, but Saatva still uses "Luxury Firm". Nonetheless, the meaning is the same. Why are they making mattresses with different sections? I was excited about this mattress until I realized that. I think it’s why people are having such a hard time finding mattresses anymore. Why did they stop making the old school open coil pillowtop innersprings? I guess we won’t ever be able to get a new mattress, we’ve bought 4 now that hurt me 😫 I’m petite, have nerve and joint issues , can’t sleep on memory foam. Please any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi. Sorry you are not finding a mattress that works for you. Have you taken our quiz yet? Your situation is exactly why we developed it. Answer a few questions about your sleep style, your preferences and needs, and we can match your requirements against all of the beds in our database so you get a short list of models that are most likely to work for your needs. You can also specify in the quiz that you don't want memory foam. Start the quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/ Hope that's helpful!

Hi Janis -- Thanks for your question. In terms of whether it would be a better choice, that would depend on all the various factors that are covered in the video. That said, I can tell you that I've been on a number of Extra Firm models from Beautyrest and this will definitely have a softer feel than those. I hope that helps.

looking like the luxury firm version is going to be too soft for me. I can just tell by how much you sink into it laying down. Is the 11inch firm version a true firm or just firm in your opinion. Im so torn between the saatva firm 11in versus the titan original non luxe model. I just need a firm supportive bed with a little give that will last me 10 years or more. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I just returned a firm beautyrest and a tempurpedic adapt non hybrid medium. I just couldnt fork over another 800 for a pro adapt firm putting us at 4k for a mattress that wont hold onto a fitted sheet EVER!

Hi Shawn -- Thanks for your question. We do consider the 11" Saatva Firm to be a "Firm" on our softness spectrum. But as for whether this qualifies as what you'd consider to be a "true firm," that's really hard to say. Unless your Beautyrest was a firm L-class in the Black collection, I do think they would both be firmer than either that or the Tempur-Adapt. I hope that's helpful.

Hi...I appreciate all your videos...detailed and helpful! Question about the Saatva...does it absolutely require a foundation (either theirs or any other), or is there some sort of solid surface under the bottom coils so that it could safely rest on a slatted platform bed with no foundation? Thanks.
@goodbed
@goodbed 6 лет назад
Thanks Deb! I'm very glad the videos have been helpful for you! Re: your question, you can definitely use the Saatva on a slatted platform without a foundation. According to the FAQ's on their site, this should not affect the warranty either (as it can with some brands). Just make sure your platform has good support, particularly under the center of the mattress to prevent sagging (which can damage the mattress, in addition to being uncomfortable). I hope that's helpful.

My bed calls for a Twin size. Will a Twin XL work, as well, on my bed? The reason why I am asking is that many manufacturers other than Saatva only offer Twin XL (for instance, Purple). Thanks for your explanation!
@goodbed
@goodbed 5 лет назад
Hi Stephen -- Thanks for your question. A Twin XL is 5 inches longer than a standard Twin, so depending on what your bed is like, I'm thinking it probably won't work. That said, be aware that Purple is actually a pretty rare exception in not offering a regular Twin option. I hope that's helpful.

I am seriously considering buying this mattress after sinking $2700 into a Stearns & Foster Cassatt Lux Firm Euro Pillow Top, which I hate. It's only a year old and honestly, my side of the bed has sunk in and the middle is a hill to climb when rolling side to side. My arms fall asleep sometimes in this bed, something I have never experienced in any other bed. I watched your 2019 Stearns and Foster video and now this one - both very informative. I just don't want to make the same mistake. I want to sleep on my mattress, not in it. But I need to be comfortable. I weigh 200 and my spouse weighs 200 and we are both less than 5'10" and we are older, 57 and 68. I'm ready to get a good night's sleep.... can you answer if I get the Saatva, will it be different enough for me to get that good night sleep? I like that I can try it for 180 days.... Thanks!!!

Hi Cindy! Thanks for the comment, and for the questions. The best way to get an idea of which -- of the hundreds -- of mattress models will best suit your needs is to try our quiz. We'll ask about your preferences, your dominant sleep positions, comfort requirements, and about your pressure relief needs. Then we can match those needs against mattress to come up with a "short list" of models we think deserve a closer look. If you haven't before considered online brands like Saatva, they are are worth a look -- and some of them even offer a full year trial, during which you can return the mattress. Our quiz can turn up both store mattresses and online beds so you can compare. Start the quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/ Hope that's helpful!

Hi +GrissomLovesSara -- Thanks for your question. AFAIK, the support portion of the mattress (pocketed coils on top of connected coils) is the same in all 3 comfort levels. So, what is different that gives them each a different amount of softness would be in the comfort layers in the top half of the mattress. I hope that helps.

It would be nice to get help. If I am 5' 10.5" 175 would you get the Saatva in the Luxury Firm or the Plush if you were a side sleeper, with shoulder pain. I prefer a tad more firm, but your commens scared me into thinking I need more plush Thank You....I hope
@goodbed
@goodbed 6 лет назад
Hi Eric -- Thanks for your question, and sorry I wasn't able to get to this sooner. In general, I think a side sleeper of your size could be happy on either the Luxury Firm or the Plush Soft. But your shoulder pain comment does suggest to me that your pressure relief needs may be more acute than the typical side sleeper, so I would indeed lean a bit more toward the Plush Soft version in your case. That said, it's also worth keeping in mind that it's always easier to give a mattress *more* softness and pressure relief (e.g., by adding a topper) that to give it less of these things, so when in doubt it is safer to err on the firmer side. As an alternative, have you considered the Loom & Leaf? It is made by the same company and is very similar in its cover and top quilting layer. I suggest it though because IMHO the pressure relief is materially better in that model on account of the 4 inches of memory foam (the Saatva model uses very little memory foam). The Relaxed Firm version of the Loom & Leaf is a bit softer than the Saatva Luxury Firm but we still classify it as a Medium level of softness. If you really do prefer a firm feel though, you could even go with the Firm version of the Loom & Leaf and I think it would still offer you better pressure relief than the Luxury Firm Saatva (once again, on account of the memory foam). The biggest consideration I can think of is that the Saatva has a lot of that traditional mattress bounce, while the L&L has very little bounce -- this is strictly a matter of personal preference that may or may not be important to you. I hope that helps.

GoodBed it really did help a lot. I was swayed a litlle by the delivery fees and also went to a mattress that both you and Riz also gave good comments to. The Nest Hybrid. I was concerned that the Plush (they now have Plush and Luxury Firm) would be too soft for me until their top notch service told me don't be fooled, their luxury firm is indeed firm. And I am in luck. The Plush is actually their old medium. Even tho soft for a medium it is indeed what I may need they said. Curious you mentioned something about my shoulder needs being acute. Did you mean to say chronic as in I have them every night and I have for the past 3 years and I go see pain management monthly. I don't think that would change where we are now with the three mattresses you and I just discussed. Wish me luck I think that's going to be perfect and again thank you for your great detailed work. (PS where did you get that brown belt...love it 😁)
@goodbed
@goodbed 6 лет назад
Great, thanks for letting us know this was helpful Eric. Regarding the "acute" comment, I was using that word in a more non-medical sense to reflect my understanding that you experience pressure points to a more "severe or intense degree" than most people. I do realize now that doctors often use that same word to refer to a condition that comes on quickly and may be more temporary in nature (e.g., the opposite of chronic), which is not how I meant it. Sorry for the confusion. Re: the belt, here it is! amzn.to/2BO48Lj 😊

I wanna thank you again for your help. I got the Alexander Hybrid last week and believe I love it. If you only had a coil OR foam, this is quite different huh. It is weird. I don't feel the plushness in a depth type of way, I feel it in a foam moving side to side. Is this just the coils making the mattress a little softer than it is. I do love it, but have my other choices. If I went either way, I would go no softer. Out of Aurora, Oceano, AS3 and Loom and Leaf, are any of those softer. I hear that the AS3 while recommended for side sleepers in the middle, it may seem too soft for some? So maybe the AS2. And while I was trying mattresses locally, hybrids, sales people said to me, are you sure you want a hybrid, you seem to lean to any mattress that are all foam or the hybrid that seem like foam (i.e. a square top) maybe like the aurora. Any recommendations over the last 4. Believe me, I love the Nest though

Hi Kenny -- From a functional standpoint, the biggest difference is that the 14.5" version is not compatible with an adjustable base, whereas the 11.5" one is. Beyond that, and the obvious difference in the height of your bed and the need for deeper-pocketed sheets, they are designed to feel and perform the same. I hope that's helpful.

Hello! I purchased the traditional Casper mattress about 30 days ago and while it’s “okay” by offering enough support it is not soft enough. I previously had a Serta pillowtop mattress and it was super soft like you fell into a cloud. I hate the sticky memory foam fell and want to stay away from that but I am wondering if the Saatva plush soft would be a better option for me? Would love your thoughts!
@goodbed
@goodbed 5 лет назад
Hi Julie. Thanks for your question. Yes, we classify the Casper as a Medium-Firm on our softness spectrum (meaning, just to the firmer side of Medium), and we'd agree it definitely doesn't have the same amount of surface plushness that you'd find on a soft Pillowtop mattress. If that's what you're looking for, then I think you'll find that the Saatva is much closer to that classic pillow top experience than the Casper. You also won't find any of that "memory feel" with the Saatva. We didn't test the Plush Soft version but since the Luxury Firm version was in the same general ballpark as the Casper (both "Medium-Firm" on our scale), I would certainly expect the Plush Soft version to be softer than the Casper. I hope that's helpful.

Does the pocketeted coils have any zoning ? Maybe a stronger coil in the midsection and softer in the high and lower part ? a 3 zone or 5 zone.. If no,.. Why don't they make a zone specially for the top of the shoulder. So you would not have the problem with your shoulder ? Specially for men.. with smaller hips.. then shoulder...
@goodbed
@goodbed 7 лет назад
Hi +eurovisie2010 -- Thanks for your question. You sound like a mattress designer in the making! As you may know, zoning is definitely something that is available to varying degrees with pocketed coil mattresses. In terms of the Saatva, as far as we know they don't vary the coil strengths in different parts of the mattress, however they do have the feature we discussed involving the extra layer of memory foam under the middle third of the mattress, which is the area that they call the "Spinal Zone." This feature is meant to provide a little more support under the heaviest part of your body (your hips). Overall, while they definitely don't take the zoning concept as far as you were suggesting, it would be fair to say that the Saatva does have at least some amount of zoning. I hope that helps.
@eurovisie2010

Every person is different. You can say that most average women need more space in the middle of the mattress for broader hips,.. than their shoulders.. And most men like you need more room at the top of their shoulder.. That's what you mentioned lying at your side.. It's therefore maybe too simple to say that the middle part of the mattress needs to be the firmest ??!! Most woman with big or broader hips need more space there.. Making the mattress firmer there... would be wrong.. It's more about the difference and the right strength.. Making space with lowering the wooden base at the point of the hips for woman beneed the mattres would give more room.... But I would prefer to let the mattress do that with the construction..
@goodbed
@goodbed 7 лет назад
+eurovisie2010 You are definitely thinking about this the right way in terms of considering the body's shape / curves (particularly for a side sleeper). Another key thing though is how the person's weight is distributed across their body. For just about everyone, the heaviest part of the body is the hips. This is the reason I said that it could make sense for the middle third of the bed to have a little more support. But I agree that for a side sleeper who is really curvy, this need would be offset by the need for the hips to sink in. In any case, you are clearly understanding how these many factors make it so that no mattress can be an excellent match for every person. Hope that helps.

Just a question. With the new cover design, with added memory foam, what happens to the dynamics when you would want to periodically rotate the mattress? It looks like the firmer section of cover is on the top one third of the bed.
@goodbed
@goodbed 7 лет назад
+JefinAptos Thanks for your question. The firmer section runs east-west across the bed and is exactly in the middle third (equidistant from the head and foot of the bed). Great review! I'm 28 weeks pregnant and on the hunt for a new mattress. Stuck between the purple and the saavta. I do have a question for you, do you have any knowledge on mattress protectors? I need the most waterproof one possible without it being completely vinyl. I have a little one who sneaks in and has an accident once and awhile on my bed. I currently have a zippered protector and a Terry protector on top of that. Both were sold to me when I bought the mattress at Rooms to Go and both were supposed to be waterproof but failed. Hi Trish -- Thanks for your question, and your kind words. 😊 RE: mattress protectors, we haven't done a thorough review of waterproofing capabilities, but there are a number of options available that use non-vinyl materials and are still waterproof. Here is a list of the ones that are top-rated on Amazon (in a category like waterproof mattress protectors, I would think that Amazon ratings would be a pretty relevant barometer of effectiveness): amzn.to/2CQIxCg Beyond that list, here are few with which I've had some personal experience: -- Naturepedic: amzn.to/2mjYU38 This is an organic option that definitely doesn't have a vinyl feel. We've used it with my son and AFAIK we've not had any problems with any liquids getting through it. Note that it only covers / protects the top of the mattress though, in case that's relevant to you. -- Malouf: amzn.to/2FprER2 This protector is also vinyl free but covers both the top and sides. I've seen it demonstrated in person and it was completely waterproof but also breathable. I hope that helps.

Hi, I really appreciate your videos and have informed me quite a bit. Yet this will be only the second mattress I've bought and like last time my head wants to explode with all the choices. I went into the process fairly certain on going with a Beautyrest Platnum plush pillow top most likely the Trixie or Treasure series. But after reading some reviews biggest complaints I saw was early sagging, and or pain while sleeping. Otherwise other people loved it. Then I fell on the saatva and was intrigued and saw people either loved it or absolutely hated it. Which brought me onto your winkbed review and looked promising as well. I guess I'm just asking which route you would suggest I go? I'm an 85% side sleeper and 15% back sleeper who likes a softer mattress. Don't have too much for body pain or anything like that. Was leaning towards the beautyrest due to a great sale and very good financing option but don't want to waste my time if it's going to degrade in not a lot of time. Oh also I travel for work so I am only home half the month spaced upon weeks so wear and tear would be less. Thanks for any direction you can give me

Great review, thanks VERY much! I really appreciate your details regarding construction. I am disabled with Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid arthritis, and I am thinking about the 14"/Soft mattress for a very sound/supportive platform bed (without a foundation). I understand that this does not effect the Saatva warranty if used in this way. I have never used a mattress without a foundation. I have two bed options.... One is the platform I mentioned, the other is a traditional bed (using a mattress and foundation). This may sound silly, but would they feel the same to sleep on? Any input is appreciated, I can go either way with the bed selection. I just want to do what's best, if it makes a difference. Thanks again.
@goodbed
@goodbed 6 лет назад
Hi GVGIRL -- Thanks for your question (and your kind words!). I'm very glad that this video was helpful for you. With regards to your question, the answer really comes down to your foundation -- specifically, what type of foundation is it and what condition is it in. Nowadays, a mattress foundation tends to be basically a wood box whose role is simply to elevate the mattress for aesthetic and/or functional reasons. If your foundation is of this type then it will generally be no different than using your mattress on a platform. However, once upon a time, mattress foundations (known more commonly as "box springs" back then) used to actually have thick coils in them. If your foundation is of this type then it would definitely change the feel of the mattress -- making it much more bouncy with a lot more "give." The Saatva mattress isn't designed to be used on this type of foundation, so I would not recommend it. The second point about the condition of the foundation is more intuitive. If your foundation is old and can no longer provide a solid base underneath the mattress, then you should certainly not use it. Doing so would not only affect your experience on the mattress for the worse, but it will even negatively affect the mattress itself and quite possibly would void your warranty in the process. Net, I would say that if you are completely indifferent from an aesthetic and functional standpoint, then you can't go wrong putting it on the "very sound/supportive platform bed" that you described. So although the foundation option could be OK depending on the factors I listed above, the platform sounds like the safer option in your case. I hope that's helpful.

@goodbed
@goodbed 6 лет назад
Hi +sokoyev -- Thanks for your comment, and sorry I missed this earlier. At 300 lbs and up, I do think the options start to get more narrow -- particularly if you're looking for a mattress that will hold up for 5-10 years. IMHO, you'll want to look for product lines that are specifically designed to be supportive (and durable) for heavier sleepers. One that I think is worth checking out is the WinkBed Plus, which you can see here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-model/winkbed-plus/ We reviewed the regular WinkBed and it is a well-built mattress, even for sleepers on the heavier side (though not for 300 lbs). Later, they came out with this heavy-duty option that is specifically designed for people 300 lbs and up. Short of that, here are some other things you'll want to consider: -- If it's an all-foam mattress, the base layer needs to be at least 2.0 lbs density, but even this is on the low side in this case. -- If it's an innerspring mattress, look for lower-gauge firmer coils. Short of being able to find this, connected coils would be better for you than pocketed coils. -- Latex is also a good option with proven durability, particularly as a comfort material but also as a support material. -- A mattress that's at least 12" thick will generally be better for you to keep from bottoming out, though thicker than that is not necessarily better. -- Keep in mind that in most cases a given mattress will feel a bit softer to you than it would to someone who is significantly lighter. The exception to this is a mattress that has soft layers on the top with a very firm layer underneath -- in this case, the mattress could actually feel firmer to someone heavier (e.g., if they sink through the soft stuff and are resting right on the firm layer). I hope that's helpful for you.

I have three herniated discs and one missing disc all in the lumbar area of the spine, AND take a heavy opiate to cut the pain, do you recommend the luxury firm or the firm mattress? Really appreciate your opinion.
@goodbed
@goodbed 4 года назад
Hi Richard. That sounds pretty awful. We aren't doctors, though -- and couldn't presume to recommend a specific mattress for your medical needs, especially without knowing more about your size and sleep positions. You will see PLENTY of other reviewers dishing out a 'best mattress for back pain' recommendation -- don't believe it. Mattress selection is PERSONAL and depends on a variety of factors. That is why we developed our GoodBed Quiz -- it's takes all of those factors into account to give you a short list of models most likely to suit your needs, based on your requirements. Start the quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/ As for the Saatva specifically, those with lumbar issues need something that not only supports the hips, but also reaches up to fill and support the lumbar area. So depending on your body weight and sleep position, that could mean that the luxury firm is a better choice than the firm -- or vice versa. The quiz will help with that. Thanks for the good question, and we hope that's helpful

Mike, I am a totally back sleeper and am a 73-year old Male who weighs just about what you weigh but am 6’2”, After discovering the Saatva HD, it is, for me, the Holy Grail. I believe it has everything I am looking for in a mattress-heavy duty coils, Talalay latex, great edge support, the lumbar support I need, just enough memory foam that is deep enough into the mattress to not be intrusive If you get my meaning, and most of all, the hand sewn tufting that helps keep the varying layers in place and not to shift around, and the helical coil as well as Saatva’s patented Spinal Zone active wire which give more support to the lower back and hip area of the lumbar portion or as they put it, the second third of the mattress. I can eat the extra $1,000+ it costs to get the best mattress that has everything in one mattress. Added to those features, a warranty for 20 years, that after the first two years, will repair and recover the mattress for $198 to handle the transportation costs back and forth. Luckily for me, one of their many manufacturing plants in the US is right here in Fort Worth where I live, so I won’t have more than a few days without it. I just believe it’s the best mattress for me. I realize it’s a personal choice, but I live in or ON my mattress 24x7 for about 99 percent of every day. It has to stand up to this type of ‘abuse.’ I am not abusive to the mattress, it’s just that mattresses are not meant to be slept on or sat on in the same spot 24 hours per day. The HD is so well made I believe it’s the best one for me. Thanks for your response.

Hi Debbie -- Thanks for your question. Although we were not able to test the Saatva on an adjustable base directly, we do know that starting in 2017, Saatva has made the Custom Slim (11.5") versions of its mattresses compatible for use on an adjustable base. So, they will absolutely work. That said, I would not be at all surprised if the mattress were to take a little time for it to break in such that it can hug the curves of the base when it is in a fully elevated (both head and foot) position, since that is very common. I hope that's helpful.

Hello, which is more suitable for Lineal adjustable bed, Loom and Leaf (12-13") or Saatva 11"?
@goodbed
@goodbed 6 лет назад
Hi Nena -- Thanks for your question. Fundamentally, either one would work, so I would think that your choice should really come down to the other attributes in these beds, and which one better matches your overall needs and preferences. That being said, if all else is equal for you, and you are wanting to break the tie with which one works better on an adjustable base, I would probably say that the Loom & Leaf would score slightly higher in adjustable base compatibility on account of its ability to conform more closely to the curves of a fully elevated base. I hope that's helpful.

Hi Nena -- I'm afraid there aren't any stores where you can try either of these mattresses before you buy. Fortunately though, both brands do offer an excellent return policy, so one way to think about it is that they let you try the mattress right in your bedroom...for a few months no less.

Peace. I'm 210 and stomach sleeper. I'll start on my side and almost always wake up on my stomach. I have hip and shoulder pain often. It's annoying. I don't like very firm mattresses. Would you recommend the medium firm Saatva or Loom & Leaf medium? TFS
@goodbed
@goodbed 7 лет назад
Hi +Winteel -- Thanks for your question. The Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm is a bit softer than the Saatva Luxury Firm, and the memory foam in the L&L should be great for your hip and shoulder pain. So on those two dimensions, I'd lean toward the L&L. My only concern about the L&L is that I would not want your hips to sink too far into the mattress when sleeping on your stomach, which I worry could happen on a mattress with so much memory foam. So, one option could be to give the Loom & Leaf a try and see how it goes on that dimension. Another option could be to just go with the Saatva. A third option would be one of these alternatives: * Nest Alexander Hybrid: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8pdwmfntzco.html -- This mattress is also a similar softness to the L&L and has memory foam that would be good for pressure relief, but not as much as the L&L (2" rather than 4") and with coils underneath which should provide good support for you when on your stomach. * WinkBed: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qTbLvZnaWqQ.html -- This could be a uniquely good option for you since it has Medium softness on top (like the L&L) but the coil support underneath is firm enough for a stomach sleeper of your size. My only concern is whether there will be enough softness and pressure relief in the top layers to prevent you from having shoulder and hip pain (but I think there could be). Net, I would base my overall recommendation on what kind of mattress you sleep on now that is giving you hip and shoulder pain. -- If it's a pretty hard mattress with either firm or minimal cushioning, then I would lean toward the Saatva (because that would suggest that your shoulder and hip pain may simply be due to having too hard a mattress rather than any acute pressure relief needs you may have, and that you might actually need a certain amount of firmness for your stomach sleeping). -- If it's a pretty soft mattress and/or has a lot of deep cushioning, then I would lean toward the L&L (because that would suggest that you do have pretty acute pressure relief needs and that you aren't on your stomach long enough during the night to experience back pain on a mattress with deeper cushioning). -- If it's somewhere in the middle, then I would lean toward one of the alternatives I listed above. I hope that helps.

Hi B -- thanks for the question. You do need SOMETHING under a mattress, but you have a lot of options. You can use a box-style support (they aren't made of springs anymore), a platform bed, an adjustable base (for the 11-inch Saatva), or even just the floor, as long as whatever you choose can support the mattress. Most mattress website have some kind of FAQ section with details about which foundations will work. @goodbed 3 года назад
Hi Marcia. I'm assuming you mean "Sealy" and not "Swamy". You have a good eye -- construction-wise, the Saatva and the Ultra Soft version of the Sealy Posturepedic Plus are using a lot of similar materials. But there are some big differences. Foremost, we judge the Saatva a "Medium Firm" mattress -- so it's going to feel quite a bit more firm than the Ultra Soft version of the Sealy Exuberant. They really do not compare at all in that respect. The other big difference is how you buy them -- a mattress store for the Sealy vs online for the Saatva. If you have an issue with the Saatva, you contact costumer service directly. With the Sealy, you deal with your mattress store (unless you buy online directly from Sealy). Neither is necessarily better or worse -- just depends on your comfort level and preferences for customer support. Hope that's helpful!

Hi and thank you. Do you think it is absolutely necessary to get the Saavta foundation vs using one I already have in order to get the full affects of the Saavta benefits and for long-term quality of the Saavta mattress?
@goodbed
@goodbed 6 лет назад
Hi Leona -- Thanks for your question, and sorry I missed this earlier. IMHO it is not necessary to get a Saatva foundation to enhance the performance of the Saatva mattress -- any solid foundation that provides consistent support across the mattress should be fine. That said, if you're going to use your old foundation, do make sure it's in excellent condition -- if it is not, this could not only shorten the lifespan of your mattress, it could also void your warranty (this is true with basically all mattress brands, not just Saatva). Along these same lines, if you have a queen size or larger, make sure that whatever frame you are using has some kind of support going all the way to the floor underneath the center of the mattress. I hope that's helpful.

Hi Adrian -- Thanks for your question. You are correct in ascertaining that your ideal softness level may be a bit softer than your wife's, which is not unusual. To provide the best overall combination for both of you, I would lean toward the Luxury Firm in your case. My instinct is that it's better to have a mattress that's slightly on the firmer side for you vs one that's too soft for your wife (particularly if she ever sleeps on her stomach). So, I think the quiz got it right in recommending you options in this softness level range. I hope that helps.

Hi E. C. Thanks for the comment. It's actually very common for mattresses to be made by a third-party manufacturer, but they are made to the specifications of the brand. So a given manufacturer might make low end beds for one brand, but higher quality models for a different brand. We make note of that $99 fee in our review -- it's definitely not a competitive policy when other brands are offering free returns. @goodbed
@goodbed 7 лет назад
Hi Lexey -- Thanks for your question. In terms of which firmness option would be best for you, I think either the Luxury Firm or the Firm could be possible options for you, depending on a few other factors. For example, if you tend to be more sensitive to pressure points (e.g., pain or numbness in your shoulders or hips), prefer a softer feel, or are a bit on the curvier side, such factors would point toward going with the softer of these two options (the Luxury Firm). Based on the information you provided, I definitely wouldn't go with the Plush Soft option. If you're looking for a more general read on whether the Saatva mattress is a good match for you, you can use the link below to take the Match Quiz on GoodBed.com. Regarding your question about how the mattress will hold up over 10 years, this is tough to accurately predict, and of course the heavier you are, the faster any mattress will wear out. If there is a concern I have about the longevity, particularly for someone 250 lbs or more, it's that I don't know quite enough about the densities of the foams used in the top 4-5 inches of the mattress. That being said, this is definitely a mattress that is intended to last that long in general, and the construction seems solid overall.

@goodbed
@goodbed 5 лет назад
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. When calculating its heights, I think Saatva ignores some of the fluffy quilting on top. You can see that the surface of the mattress is undulating on account of this quilting, and it is also possible for a fluffy quilting layer like this to settle a bit over time, so I suspect this is just Saatva's way of being conservative in their claims about the height of the mattress. In any case, I would expect that upon first opening the 11.5" mattress, it would be about 13" tall when it arrives. That said, the difference probably won't mean much from a practical standpoint. I hope that's helpful.

Have been looking at a lot of your reviews for mattresses that you like the "shoulder sink" on. I have a Tuft & Needle at my summer home and even though I fall asleep on my back, I always wake up on my side and typically with a sore neck/shoulder from the T&N pressure point support. I want my next mattress for home to be something supportive of my back for falling asleep, but still having enough shoulder give for my middle of the night side sleeping. Is this a winner for someone your size or what would be best under the $1500 mark for a King? Appreciate your time.
@goodbed
@goodbed 7 лет назад
Hi +mjr727 -- I'm sorry I didn't see this question sooner. From your description, it sounds like you may be "bottoming out" on the Tuft & Needle. As you may know, this term refers to the idea of sinking all the way through the softer top comfort layers (which, in the case of the T&N, is just one layer) to the point where you are effectively laying directly on the firmer bottom support layer -- which can result in insufficient pressure relief. This tends to be a bigger issue on your side, since in that position you sink deeper into the mattress and are more susceptible to pressure points. If you're interested in learning more about this, we actually just released a full video review of the Tuft & Needle last week: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ayYhNJKHjrI.html In terms of what would be best for you, one suggestion I would have is to take the Match Quiz on GoodBed.com to help you narrow in on some choices that meet your full range of needs and preferences (in case there are any pertinent considerations that you didn't happen to cover here). You can find that quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/ That said, to go back to your question about the Saatva, I do feel like if you are someone with my size and shape, the Saatva Luxury Firm should achieve the balance you are looking for. A few others that sound like they could be a good fit in your case would be the WinkBed, the Leesa, or the Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm. I hope that helps.

Hi there -- Thanks for your question. While we may choose to sleep on any given mattress for longer or shorter, we are generally able to review a mattress within the first few weeks. This is because our reviews are focused primarily on describing the objective characteristics of the mattress -- which we can readily assess in that time period -- rather than the subjective "comfort" or long-term durability of the mattress. For subjective assessments of a mattress, or empirical data on its longevity, we generally put more emphasis on unbiased feedback from real people who own and use the mattress for many years. You can find over a quarter million such ratings and reviews on GoodBed.com. I hope that's helpful.

@goodbed 6 лет назад
Hi Carol -- Thanks for your comment, and for letting us know that you found the video helpful! It sounds like you aren't getting adequate pressure relief from your current mattress (which commonly results in hip pain for side sleepers). Here's how I'd break down the pros and cons of these two choices in your case: -- The L&L is generally a bit better on the pressure relief front of the two, and thus a bit better for you when you're on your side. -- The Saatva would probably be slightly better when you're on your stomach. -- The Saatva would probably be slightly cooler because it has a bit more airflow. The biggest difference between these two options is actually something that you didn't mention, which is whether you like bounce in your mattress and to what degree you like that "memory feel" (slowly melting into the bed sensation). The Saatva has the bounce of a traditional mattress and virtually no memory feel, while the L&L has virtually no bounce and a fair amount of memory feel. Does that help?

I like firm for my side sleeping, but must have cushion that fully fills the arch of my spine when back sleeping.
@goodbed
@goodbed 6 лет назад
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. I would certainly stick with the advice that your doctor provided, however it's a bit hard for me to interpret their advice in this case because the word "firm" is one of the biggest sources of confusion in the mattress industry. Many people (including perhaps, your doctor) use the word "firm" to refer to the level of support in the mattress -- sometimes to the point where they think of "firm" as meaning "good support" and anything else as "bad support" or "saggy." However, the mattress industry itself does not subscribe to this same nomenclature. Mattress companies (including Saatva) use the word "firm" to describe the level of comfort or softness in the top layers of the mattress. These top layers can play a role in achieving proper spinal alignment (particularly for curvier and/or lighter side sleepers, but also for back sleepers), but are separate from the lower support layers in the mattress, which is where most of the support in the mattress comes from. To underscore this point, the support layers (i.e., springs) in the Saatva models are exactly the same in the Firm and Luxury Firm versions -- only the cushioning on top differs between these models. Net, given all the parameters you described as well as the advice from your doctor, my inclination would be to go with the Firm model in your case, particularly if you tend to like firmer mattresses for side sleeping. It's hard to say anything with certainty without seeing you on the mattress, but my hope would be that the layer of pocketed coils in the Saatva would provide enough conformance -- even in the Firm version -- to fill that arch in your spine when on your back. I hope that helps.

GoodBed thank you so much for your response. Greatly appreciated. I will definitely continue to consider the saatva mattress. If I may inquire looking on your website I see an awful lot of folks complaining about this particular brand of mattress in your expert opinion do you see this brand of mattress sagging within 2 or 3 years or basically falling apart sooner than at least a 10-year mark? I was looking at the Stearns & Foster estate model initially and have found way too many reports visually on RU-vid and written just overall on the internet about sagging significant sagging within a two to three year window. So I've opted to stay clear of that brand. Although in the meantime overall, I did finally get a great night sleep (in months) last night by putting a pillow (I have no idea why I didn't think of that sooner as a temporary fix) under my waist and woke up with no pain and no stiffness... so after some hours of morning research, I ran to Kohl's today and grabbed a Serta 3in gel memory foam mattress topper to try and simulate the pillow over the entire bed. I just set it up and oh my god I've been moving around on this thing for almost an hour with absolutely no pain and no stiffness. So I'm keeping this bad boy for the time being. Sorry for the long message but finding a mattress and something that relieves this excruciating nightly pain is harder than shopping for a car or house. Last question, with this particular mattress topper I now have from Serta, would you have a recommendation on an equivalent mattress with this type of material? Would that be something already a part of the saatva models? Do you find that memory foam helps with spinal alignment or am I just so happy that I have something with some support that I don't feel any pain and stiffness? I'm so used to the old school inner coil and don't know much about it. Again so sorry for the long terribly long message.
@goodbed
@goodbed 6 лет назад
Hi there -- No need to apologize for the long message. 😊 Re: your questions: -- It's true that many mattress brands have complaints about sagging, although in the vast majority of cases it is not actually "sagging" (i.e., a collapse or softening of the underlying support layers such as springs) but rather is "body impressions" (i.e., a collapse or softening of the upper comfort layers on top). -- When it comes to complaints like this, keep in mind that people with complaints are much more likely to come online and write a review than people with no complaints. -- Also keep in mind that mattress brands that have been in business for 5 years or more (such as Saatva, or Stearns & Foster for that matter) are much more likely to have complaints than brands that have been around for less time than this (such as almost every other online mattress brand). These newer brands will not be immune to this dynamic once their mattresses that are out there in people's homes reach that same age. -- In terms of the pillow solution, that's great that this helped. I'll be interested to hear whether the topper achieves the same benefit over the course of an entire night when used without the pillow. My expectation is that it would not, but I can always be surprised. 😊 My reasoning is that a pillow is providing targeted support under a specific area of your back -- part of the way it achieves this is that the pillow is only under a specific area and not under the other areas of your body. By contrast, a topper that is covering your entire mattress would be less about added support and more about added comfort and pressure relief. -- All that being said, it could very well be that with your disc issues, it is actually added pressure relief that you are in need of, not added lumbar support. If the topper does indeed work without the pillow, this would be a very plausible explanation, which would also be a very meaningful conclusion for you in terms of finding the right mattress. Support and pressure relief are two different things that can often be at odds with each other. So although you need a mattress that provides the best combination of both, finding a mattress that is *best* at one will often be a different mattress from the one that is *best* at the other. -- If you do indeed determine that pressure relief is really your top criteria (moreso than firm lumbar support), then memory foam is indeed an excellent material for this. -- In terms of mattresses that have 3" of memory foam at the top of them, there are plenty of choices that meet this criteria, should this be what you ultimately determine you need. Saatva would not be among these, but their sister brand, Loom & Leaf, would be an option in this case. I hope that helps.

Why does everyone seem to mostly steer away from plush mattresses....is a plush somehow bad for your back or something? What would be the negatives of a plush in this model.
@goodbed
@goodbed 6 лет назад
Hi +k m -- Thanks for your question. In terms of the premise of your question -- that everyone steers away from plush mattresses -- I'm not sure where this comes from, and in any case would certainly not agree with it. As you can hear in this review, we list various types of sleepers for whom the Plush Soft version of this mattress would likely be a better match than either of the other two options. In terms of the possible negatives of a softer mattress, there would be two broad categories. The most obvious, but less important of the two, would be how well it matches your *preferences* -- a mattress being softer or firmer doesn't make it inherently better or worse, but it can certainly make it inherently more or less "comfortable" (which is highly subjective) to any given person. The more important but less obvious factor is how well the mattress matches your *needs*. Spinal alignment and pressure relief are the two things that everyone needs to get from their mattress, and a softer mattress will provide these things better for some people, but worse for others. We cover this in the video, but since you asked for an example of the "negatives" of a softer mattress, here is one case in point: in general, a softer mattress won't be as good from a spinal alignment standpoint for a stomach sleeper, especially a heavier stomach sleeper. This is because the primary concern for a stomach sleeper is making sure the hips don't sink too far into the mattress, which can cause the back to over-arch when you are in a stomach sleeping position. The softer the mattress, the more likely you are to encounter this problem. On the flip side though, softer mattresses can often be better for side sleepers. This is because achieving spinal alignment on your side requires the mattress to conform to your body's curves. This is something at which mattresses with more softness tend to do better. Likewise, pressure relief, another area where softer mattresses often excel, tends to be even more important when on your side. Net, I would never think of softer mattresses in terms of better or worse, I would only think of them in terms of right or wrong for your specific needs and preferences. I hope that's helpful.

k m, When the majority of Saatva customers select the Luxury Firm, that doesn't have to mean that they 'steer away' from the Soft. It is understandable to me, that the majority of the population would like the mid-range one. I happen to be a customer who would select Soft; however, I suffer from Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid arthritis. The average customer does not have the same needs. I do know that some customers had attempted to order Soft mattresses, only to change their minds after speaking with the Saatva rep. I guess that could be interpreted as they were being 'steered away' from the Soft. Unfortunate for the folks who ended up having to return the Luxury Firm, but are now happy with the Soft they originally were going to order.

In my recent Goldilocks and the three bears mattress hunt...I sent back a Nectar after a week because I thought it was not "soft" or my mind...luxurious enough..and ended up with a Casper wave only because I got it for almost 1/3 the cost....it is softer than the Nectar....I am happy with it. I guess I will never know what a soft feels like..but so far so good...maybe I didn't need a soft after all.

k m, It's not easy, is it!?! There are SO many to choose from, and it's all very technical (which is above me!). I don't need a new mattress quite yet, but when I do....there will probably be a whole new batch of things to learn! It's a lot of money, and it's impossible to know which one is 'just right', until you sleep on it! It's a little bit of a leap of faith isn't it (?). I absolutely understand that the construction of a mattress is of utmost importance. We are not all engineers though, and I honestly don't really WANT to understand all of the details. :) That is why I am thankful for these informative videos. It is much easier for me to learn from a video, than have to read all sorts of specs. If I grasp a portion of what is explained, I am a little better off than before! Thanks for your info about the two that you tried. I will take a look at them. It's wonderful that the Casper worked out for you! I think I am a 'soft' kind of gal myself, but I am now trying to focus more on what the mattresses do, vs what they are called. We'll see. Wish me luck!

So true..we so infrequently buy a mattress(I am 62 and I have only bought 4 in my life......all others just fell to me...so when you shop...its an overwhelming...interesting...almost mesmerizing experience that really show you we have too much information with this internet thingamajig. You start seeing all these websites with people who seem to make a living changing positions on a mattress...and dropping a bowling ball on it...and you think...ok...the bowling ball thing...how it reacts...how exactly does that translate to the bed i want....and then you realized...wow...so crazy.....man...maybe I should have made a living laying down on a bed instead of going to college....anyway....in a way its fun ....you realize that with a bed....such a personal thing...and something that really can do something to you mind at the end of a long day...its an important decision...you wanna get it right. My final distillation was this: The number of layers of foam or whatever....well....not the main point. The main point is always sleeping on it.....so...don't be afraid to take advantage of these return policies....they offered it take it...and try some.....if u have patience...you will find something you like...it took me one iteration(I got to lay on the casper I bought) .but hey if it takes you more.....be stubborn. Find the bed you are happy with.....heck...sometimes in the middle of the day....I just go over and lay on my mattress...and I think of all the videos I watched and reviews I read...and i think...hey....i Did good. And then i think...should i take a nap in the middle of the day........

So if I was considering the Saatva and I weigh 295 and a side sleeper would I be better off with the firm option?
@goodbed
@goodbed 7 лет назад
Hi Mitchell -- Thanks for your question. This is a tough one as I do think you're on the border here. That said, this typically means you'd be OK with either. Overall though, my instinct for a side sleeper at your weight would be to lean toward the Firm option. In the side position, I really think the Luxury Firm would be fine for you, and maybe even preferable. However, very few people sleep in only one position during the night, and on your back or stomach, I definitely think the Firm would be better. So that's basically how I'm breaking the tie. I hope that helps.

I mean to do sleep on my stomach like 20 percent of the time. But mostly I'm a side sleeper.

Does the lumbar area feel noticeably firmer than the rest?
@goodbed
@goodbed 3 года назад
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. I would say that if you're looking for it, particularly if your body is finely tuned to such things (as ours have become), then you can feel it. But otherwise, you might never know that the difference is there. That said, even in the case that you don't explicitly notice it, you may still benefit from it in terms of the spinal alignment you receive. See the section beginning at 7:06 for more detail on our assessment of the spinal alignment for different types of sleepers. I hope that's helpful.

Hi Darrell. Assuming it will only be used occasionally, we think you could probably go with a less expensive foam mattress like the Cocoon or the Tuft & Needle, but of which we thought were at least good for most sleep positions. Here's our review of the Cocoon: www.goodbed.com/reviews/cocoon-mattress-review/ And of the Tuft & Needle: www.goodbed.com/reviews/tuft-and-needle-mattress-review/ Hope that helps!

Hey Mike your the best so here's my question . I have soft tissue problems and a messed up jaw. I wake up and all my muscles soft tissue wise ligaments tendons and such. Something like Fibromyalgia Just have tightened all up.Making mornings very painful..So what do you think would be better for me. A Sattva soft. Or a tallalay laytex top with 2.0 ild foam base made by Dreamfoam Bedding Little sister of Brooklyn bedding. The laytex top is customizable from 1 to 10 1 is firm 10 is very soft. Or AM I going the wrong way and do I need something firmer to stretch out those muscles. Let me know what you think. Thanks very much.

Hi Jay -- Thanks for your question, and your kind words. It's hard for me to answer this with certainty since I'm not familiar with the condition you described, however my take-away from your description is that you'd be someone for whom pressure relief would be of utmost importance (this tends to be the case for fibromyalgia sufferers). Presuming this is an accurate conclusion, I think that of the two options you mentioned, the mattress with Talalay latex on top would probably be a better choice in your case. Sorry I can't be of more help in this case, but I hope that's still useful input for you.

I am currently researching Saatva mattresses. By the way, thanks for the great video! Thinking about getting the Soft one. I am disabled with Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid Arthritis. I have heard a lot about latex being used in mattresses. Just as a 'heads up', for any readers, it is not uncommon for individuals with Fibromyalgia, to be sensitive or allergic to Latex. If Latex isn't an issue, sounds like a great option! Good luck!

Hi GVGIRL! Thanks for your kind words and for sharing this information. I had not previously heard this about there being a correlation between fibromyalgia and latex allergies. On this front, it sounds like you know this already, but just for the benefit of other readers, the Saatva mattress (the one shown in this video) does *not* contain any latex.

Thanks for clarifying the latex thing for everyone. I could have worded that better, so I appreciate your additional words. (I was referring to the Talaylay one you had mentioned.) Those of us with latex issues, are thrilled when we have found products that do not contain latex! Have a wonderful day, and keep up the great work!

I was pretty shocked to see that in a matter of only 4 years, the Saatva has gone from $999 to $1595. I know that everything is more expensive these days, but a $600 increase on a $1000 product is pretty steep. It seems to be a quality mattress. Not sure it would give me enough pressure relief for my shoulders, though.
@goodbed
@goodbed 2 года назад
Hi BJ -- Thanks for your comment. Totally see where you're coming from on that. A couple things you should know here: 1) Over that time period, Saatva went from never discounting (ever) to offering a substantial periodic discount of $200. This discount is not always available, but it's available on a regular enough basis that it would be reasonable to think of the actual current price as $1395. Of course, a 40% increase is still substantial, which brings me to the second point... 2) Over the past 5 years, a key driver of price increases for online mattress brands has been increasing customer acquisition costs. A big example of this is the ever-increasing amounts that large mattress review websites (the ones that get the most traffic from Google) charge these brands to appear at the top of their "best mattress" lists (yes, those lists are generally just rankings of which brands pay those sites the most money). These marketing costs can now add up to as much as 30% or more of the total price of the mattress. 3) Since the pandemic, there have also been legitimate increases in manufacturing costs. Everything from raw materials cost (foam, springs, wood, fabrics, etc.) to labor cost to shipping cost has gone up substantially. Coupled with high consumer demand for mattresses, these supply chain disruptions have led to multiple price increases per year from nearly every vendor that sells to mattress manufacturers. In the end, these increases have been passed on to consumers by brands across the industry -- both online and store brands. Net, I recognize that as a consumer, this explanation is of relatively little comfort. But FWIW, I just thought I could put your astute observation in some perspective for you. I hope that's helpful.

I have been reading reviews. There are several reviews complaining about a strong smell. Does it have a strong smell?
@goodbed
@goodbed 5 лет назад
Hi Jeanene -- Thanks for your question. No, not in our experience. Personally, I don't tend to be particularly sensitive to these types of smells, but we do make sure to evaluate this attribute in all of our reviews nonetheless. In the case of the Saatva, we actually found the smell to be less than most online mattresses we test, which I attribute to the fact that it arrives fully expanded and is never compressed or vacuum sealed like most online mattresses. I hope that's helpful.

Tamara Newsome I have the plush! Have had one of them for just over 2 years and still shows no sign of sagging or anything and is extremely comfortable. The other one I just got a couple of months ago, so no issues with that one either. I think it just boils down to whether you like a soft mattress. I do. The plush is plush, but still feels firm to me. I hope you like it. Sweet dreams to you! Also, they have a phenomenal return policy, so if you don’t like it, you can return it.

Patricia Farrell thanks for replying. I have a Serta blakefield that is luxury plush and I love it. My sis needs a bed, so since I am in a better position to purchase another one, I am giving her mine that is only 2 yrs old and still in excellent condition. Of course they no longer make that model, so I decided to go out of my comfort zone and purchase a saatva after all the wonderful reviews. I have not seen any plush reviews and I am a side sleeper and weight 250, and was concerned with all the sagging and durability issues I have read about. You are the only person who has had your bed for any length of time. Thanks for responding!
