====== 82nd All The Way Lyrics =====
In the draft of 1917, a man from Tennessee
Overseas to the trenches he went, from the land of the free
Into war he brought two things along, a rifle and his faith
Join the ranks as a private, assigned to 338th
There on that day, Alvin York
Entered the fray
Saving the day
82nd all the way
Into the fires of hell, the Argonne, a hero to be
Entered the war from over the sea
Intervene, 1918, all the way from Tennessee
Hill 223
When his faith has been put to the test, the call to arms he heeds
On the 8th of October he went, made a sergeant for his deeds
Fearless, leading the raid of the war, machinegun on the hill
Charge the enemy taking the prisoners, by power of his will
There on that day, Sergeant York
Entered the fray
Saving the day
82nd all the way
What Sergeant York achieved that day
Would echo to the USA
It’s 82nd all the way
Death from above, what they now say
What Sergeant York achieved that day
Echoes from France to the USA
It’s 82nd All the way
Death from above, what they now say

i would like to say this is a marvelous story put into a song, by no less than honorable artists that I would recognize as true artists of their time. As a veteran myself, i am proud that a group such as Sabaton is placing such stories at the core of their talent. Play on, Sabaton. And we vets, active serviceman, and the honored fallen, shall hold the line for you and everyone worth protecting always. I salute you.

Alvin C. York was my grandfathers first cousin, I’m very proud of his accomplishments, I talked with his grandson a few months ago, when I visited Alvin’s home place, where there’s a memorial & small museum plus other things to see. Thank You for honoring him for his courage & devotion.😊

While this is one of your best songs, quite possibly my favorite, I thought Alvin York was part of the 328th not the 338th, it’s a very minor detail and I don’t expect you to change the song just because of some random person on the internet, I just wanted to point it out

My grandfather was a sergeant in the 82nd during WW2 he passed away earlier this year. He never talked about what he saw in Italy and behind Utah beach until he was way older. But he was so proud of his “All American men” as he called them.
@Nempo13
@Nempo13 3 года назад
Trust me, every man that wore the AA patch was/is proud of that fact. The 82nd is known for attacking and holding onto positions that are considered nearly suicidal and getting out of it with few casualties. AA mean All American, when the 82nd was formed it was a unique for it's time regiment. Normal regiments usually were taken from a single area so everyone would be from the same state, but the 82nd took people from all across the country. The nickname stuck even though every regiment was that way by the time of WW2.

Here’s a list of just some I know about off the top of my head: War of 1812 The Napoleonic wars (to Europeans I guess its the same thing) The Texas Revolution (and all the others that took place against Santa Anna) Custard’s last stand I don’t think they said absolutely not in a WoT Q&A when asked about American Civil war and American Revolution songs. They just said Iced Earth already did that and they didn’t want to steal Iced Earth’s thunder. But I’m putting them here... American Civil War Spanish-American War Another war that I know was happening in Europe at the time that I don’t remember what was called. I’m sure there are more I don’t know about that have plenty of notable figures and battles. Definitely plenty of material for Sabaton.

I felt the need to share this, how I found my way here. After a death in the family, my fathers great aunt passed her husbands effects from his service in WW2 with the 774th Tank Destroyers Battalion. We ended up in the care of his photographs and almost everything he brought back from Europe. We were incorrectly informed that he had a German Luger, it turned out to be a CZ24 pistol chambered in .380 most likely manufactured in 1939 or 1940, not a military stamped arm; more than likely he traded for it. During my research into this arm, I found one of your videos... a nice surprise to say the least. Figured someone would find it interesting that searching up on an unknown Czech pistol led me to a new band to listen to...

Alvin Cullum York (December 13, 1887 - September 2, 1964), also known as Sergeant York, was one of the most decorated United States Army soldiers of World War I. He received the Medal of Honor for leading an attack on a German machine gun nest, taking at least one machine gun, killing at least 25 enemy soldiers and capturing 132. York's Medal of Honor action occurred during the United States-led portion of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France, which was intended to breach the Hindenburg line and force the Germans to surrender. He earned decorations from several allied countries during WWI, including France, Italy and Montenegro.

To clear up some of the confusion in the comments: The 82nd Infantry during WW1 became the 82nd Airborne during WW2. Between Argonne and [The Bulge], the 82nd has proven to be one of the most badass divisions out there. [Edit: it has come to my attention that I was mistaken as of where the 82nd was during the Battle of the Bulge. It was an honest mistake and wasn’t meant to discredit the 101st, fellow badasses who were at Bastogne. Still, like the 101st, the 82nd played a major role in breaking up the overwhelming German offensive during that battle. So my original statement of them being badass still stands.]

I mean come on dude the man was tasked to silence a machine gun with 17 men (13 of which were privates) and after 9 were wounded or killed and York was then put in charged due to him having the highest rank while still being able to fight had the rest of his men watch prisoners they previously captured and then charged the machine gun nest by himself fighting against ~30 men. He was at one pointed charged by 6 men with bayonets fixed after he shot all the ammo in his M1917 Einfield so he used his M1911 pistol and killed them (the M1911 has 7 shots) and then the German commander missed all the shot he fired at Sergeant York (then a corporal) until he surrendered. Once the battle was over he and seven men came back with 132 German prisoners. This all from a man who at first tried to be exempt from the draft because he didn't want to fight and he didn't want to kill.

Since everyone is talking about their family connections to York, I guess I will as well: Apparently, my great grandparents knew York before and after the first war (they were church buddies) my great grandfather used to tell his sons that York came back a changed man, something was missing. At the breakout of WWII, my uncle Harold I guess didn't listen, went to fight in WWII, and entered as a replacement at Rapido river, fighting alongside Murphy through Anzio and kept fighting all the way through France until his company broke through enemy lines and ended up being shelled by our own guns. He ran to grab the radio from the jeep and took a direct hit from a shell, but continued fighting, ultimately earning a bronze star & purple heart. Poor guy came back without the use of his legs and committed suicide in 1946. Before he died, he would tell everyone that there was no glory in war. Don't ever forget that, not when you're watching the war movies, listening to the recruiters, seeing new Sabaton videos, or watching the news. There is no glory in war. Young men today are no different than Harold: they hear tales of heroic glory, they serve alongside heroes, but all they ever find is death. For every York, every Murphy, there are thousands of Harolds. There is no glory in war, there is only hell.
@jclindsay007
@jclindsay007 3 года назад
So true, and the WWs were the ones to showcase that so well... matter of fact, I think there was a British(?) officer who wrote a letter home talking about how there was no honor or glory for the young men that fought in those trenches.
@fructosecornsyrup5759
@fructosecornsyrup5759 3 года назад
Granddaughter of a WW2 vet here. I don't... know if the praise is coming from that part of it. Not for me, at least. It's always good to be realistic, and understand what war truly means, what it does to people and places, the casualties and atrocities it spawns... Death is a natural part of life. So is war. So is every trial in life we have to face. I think what at least I place value in was that these people did something with such good, selfless intentions. There's a purity of spirit there that inspires naturally. The human capacity for self-sacrifice is something I think we all can feel just a little more uplifted by--that humanity isn't all wholly evil. Not saying your wrong; on the contrary. War itself is nothing but destruction and pain and violence. Just saying that maybe there's a deeper meaning behind it. A silver lining to a dark cloud. Y'know? And bless your great grandpap. Sounded like a wise man. Hope he's resting comfortably now, at least...

82nd Airborne (and formerly 82nd Infantry) were my heroes growing up, I joined the army because I wanted to be a part of their history; back when Iraq and Afghanistan were still going on. I never got that chance (quit during Red phase), but I still hold the All-Americans' significance in history close to my heart, and the Army values I learned in basic training. *A Warrior, and a member of a team.* *Always place the mission first.* *Never accept defeat.* *Never quit.* *Never leave a fallen comrade.* These segments of the crede are most important to me. èné7 Hooah!

Ah yes it's absolutely not because the French and British together with their colonies fucked the German up that WW1 was won. It's because some pieces of shit farmers eating beef and with some rifle joined nearly at the end of the war were the Germans were already thinking about surrendering and most of them did anyway.

I come from a long line of military officers. My great-grandfather was a POW in Germany and was on of the Camps (I don't know which, my mom never told me.) my grand-father was in Vietnam, and my father was stationed at Berlin when the Iron Curtain started to crumble. So, it brings me great joy that a band from across the pond made this song and add a new song for my playlist for writing. Thank you.

Why should somebody be ashamed of his European heritage?Europe made the planet what it is now.If not for us Americans would still sacrifice people and Africans would run away from lions.
@wizardcat7654
@wizardcat7654 5 лет назад
@@minotauruskt We should not be ashamed. Is my point, but we have advanced to the point in society of over self-deprication. Where we think our ancestors were evil and are now changing history to suit more modern "delicate" sensabilities. I.E. censoring things from the past we feel would offend a "persecuted" minority. Like the Grenadier March here on YT that got removed several times, because British colonialism was evil. Again I disagree with this. As without colonialism, I and many others would not be in the US right now. And it is what it is. We make the most of what we are given. Talking about a fairy tale land in which colonialism doesn't happen is moot. Bottom line is people like to look in the mirror and change the mirror to suit themselve. Rather then use the mirror to help them see what to change or fix. Forget the past and your doomed to repeat it? Also looking at colonialism/slavery as if there were no benefits and it was all just evil, rather then grey. Is not a fair accounting of the history. People have dominated/ conquered the conquerable since the beggining of time. Slavery happened to just about everyone. Just more recently Africans. However sex slavery still happens today, which I would argue is a bigger issue that needs talked about rather then the kind of slavery that happened in the past.
