Prior to the Greco-Italian War’s commencement, the Greeks were given an ultimatum - to permit Italy’s occupation of certain strategic points in the country or face an Italian invasion. They chose to stand their ground and fight like their brave ancestors.

@@lukariux3676 Really. How did you think Greece and all the other Balkan countries got their independence in the end? Most of them got it in the 20th century but Greece set the precedent, establishing the first modern Greek state in 1830. The great powers of the age were involved of course, as they always do in such cases, but nothing would have happenned if there weren't a ton of rebellions against the Ottomans before that, from Greeks, Serbians, Bulgarians, Albanians, both christians and muslims in Albania and Serbia. And then we did what we do best and started killing each other.

Fun Fact: Greece was one of the few countries occupied by Nazi Germany from which they didn't draw any prisoners to use as labor in Germany. Why? Because the Greeks were so dedicated to freedom, Germany was scared they'd start a rebellion. They were probably right.

There is nothing more heroic or showing such true Valor as the defending of one's home against insurmountable odds, at least in my eyes. And every time I remember that, I'm reminded of Greece's valiant defence. A poor, critically undersupplied agrarian people defending their ancient land against the greatest military industry in Europe. It took a month for Nazi Germany to conquer Greece. It took only 3 weeks for it to conquer France, a major player in the first world War. I'm not Greek, but I think I'm going to make a note to remember no day for the bravery shown by the great people of Greece, in the face of unwinnable odds.

it wasnt just germany conquering them in 1 month, they also fought and actually pushed back Italy in a counteroffensive before germany arrived, meaning that it took germany a month to conquer them on top of them having had casualties and with less supplies

My Great Grandfather fought these battles. They pushed the Italians back across the Balkans, but then when the German's later counter-attacked from the north they were beaten and retreated to defend their villages. He was shot and killed in his doorway protecting his house in the small village of Symantra, in Halkidiki. Churchhill said that the Germans had to delay invading USSR for 6 months due to the requirement to subjugate Greece first after Italy failed, and this delay is what allowed the USSR time to prepare to successfully defend Stalingrad & Moscow.

I am greek/albanian from pindos and to think the very mountains I love so much and consider my home were once a notable battlefield is strange to say the least. A classmate of mine once told the class that his grandfather was killed by a bombing that took place in trikala. There are multiple monuments in villages surrounding the events

Greeks have the annoying habit from an invader's perspective of consistently facing extremely unfavorable odds and still coming on top until the enemy finally drains their reserves after taking unimaginable casualties and fighting for an unthinkable amount of time according to the invader's original plan.

Without this song I wouldnt know much of the ancient greek history. I am from Sweden, living not far from the polar circle and the winter here is harsh, but after my retirement I have serious plans to more or less settle down in Greece or maybe Italy. This song is one of the many songs that at least for a bit, makes me feel proud of being born in Hellas. And reminds me what the heroes who lived here, are expecting the nation they left to be glorious. And I want to give them what they are expecting. FOR THE GLORY OF HELLAS!

This is a great sabaton song ,about the unbelievable fight of the greek army back in the world war 2️⃣ beating the Italians and the battle of Crete was the begging for the fall of hitler ,…For the glory of 🇬🇷!!!

I wonder how my grandpa felt about this back then, he was a border guard in Fiume for the Italian army, but was a second generation Greek immigrant. I never had the ability to question him about it since he went senile when I was a kid.

What I love more about my country, is that we celebrate only the starting of wars. If you ask someone when did Greece got freedom in ww2, no one will know the answer.
