This song is very important in Swedish history. So many men died during our constant wars during the 16 and17 hundres with Denmark, Russia, Poland and Germany and others. Generation after generation just died on the battlefields.

@@amygoodson-catlady ooh, thats great :) Its tack, pretty much when its a fast for example a, then its usually other double letter or in this case ck :) . Another word a fast a is tall wich is a tree, but if its a long a then it would be just one l and changes the meaning completely. Tal then is a speech for example.

Several years later and I keep going back to reactions of this song. Was in the middle of this crowd. It was just before covid started tobshut things down (like a week or so) so last live show for over two years. The crowd almost always sing along this song in Sweden, but this is by far one of the single best concert memories ive had.

I was at this concert and for us in the audience it was an epic moment. This weekend they played in Stockholm, I couldn't miss it... Yet again they played this song, and we sang and we cried. You can find a video of it here on YT. Sabaton Stockholm 28 april 2023.

I missed this concert but was fortunate to experience this song in a sold out Avicii Arena in Stockholm this year, it was just as amazing as I imagined it after watching this video....goosebumps for 3+ minutes!!

Aren't you glad we insisted on the live version? ☺ Their live videos are often filmed from this perspective. From their 2012 Carolus Rex album, which was recorded with the original lineup. You mentioned 'Art of War'. That's the title of Sabaton's2008 album. From that record , try Ghost Division or 40:1, both live at the 2012 Polish Woodstock festival.

Great reaction. Joakim Broden, the singer and Par Sundstrom, the bassplayer are the only two original bandmembers left. They split up in 2012, after the Carolux Rex album, from which this is a song. You mentioned The Art of War book, Sabaton has an album called The Art of War, where each song is based on one chapter of that book. You also talked about PTSD, I would recomment To Hell and Back, but make sure to do yhe official music video; The live is great, but the video tells the story so much better; Greetings from Belgium

Nice reaction, I was at this show (sitting somewhere in the middle of the platform to the left from this view of the stage) Just before this clip started Joakim said no one carries around a lighter anymore but you all have phones, right? So turn on your lights for this one. Totally wonderful my friends, let's not sing together, en livstid i krig (a lifetime of war) Needless to say, it was one hell of a show that night, they had sold out the arena so we were 10 766 metalheads in the arena that night.

This is one of two songs on the Carolus Rex double album that differs between the English and Swedish version. The Swedish version is from a Swedish soldiers point of view, the English version is more from the viewpoint of a neutral observer of the entire war and its reason. The other song that differs is 1648 about the Swedish siege of Prague. The Swedish version, once again, is from the point of the Swedes while the English version is from the inhabitants of Prague. After 30 years of war it had come full circle and was back where it once started, in Prague.

Funny you should mention Epica. They both toured the U.S. together in 2022, and i got to see them live. Ive only been to 3 concerts Sabaton is tied with 1st. So good.

A fun fact that Sabaton was asked once if they really have their own Tank. Joakim answered “no… we have two” Anyway, as many have said this is a story about the swedish soldier in the 30 years war. For many this ment that they lived their entire life in war and did never come back home. The 30 year war was one of the bloodiest in the history. Yes more died in WWI and II but if you take the percentage of the poplulation back then this was bloodier. Entire Europ was in flames and in many cities and towns over 50% died due to the war. The war was between catholics and protestants.

@@amygoodson-catlady For sure, one of the last battels of this war was when Swedes took Prague in 1648 and plunderd it on all their treasues which we still have today, the most famous piece was the silver bible written with silver from around the year 500, written in a language nobodt talks today think it was gothic.

This is such an emotional song... Before this on the album you get the powerful Lejonet Från Norden (The Lion From the North) which gets your blood pumping, ready to conquer, then the song about their rallying cry, Gott Mit Uns (God With Us, they were fighting on the side of the Protestants against the Catholics) and then this which shows the other side of things, The line about setting the world on fire, it's mentioned in the other songs about that period too, that the two sides were setting the world on fire

Of course, this song Livstid i Krig can be about all the wars around the world. BUT this song is mainly about the Swedes who participated in the 30-year war that Sweden was part of and put Europe under their feet and only down to the middle east, and were about to take over the entire Soviet Union.

One man from each village was the designated warrior around the times they sing about, the position was voluntary but it was mandatory for the village to have a man ready for war at a moments notice. The village supplied the soldier with a tiny farm and soldiers equipment as a form of tax.

It is a "legendary" song for Sabaton's concerts :-) The special song. You should check it out, maybe the one with Tina Guo, and watch a few concerts to see...
