If you want to listen to a band that will forever change your perception of metal music (and of music in general possibly) then check out Nightwish performing "Ghost Love Score" live at the Wacken Open Air Festival. Their singer is considered by many to be the greatest female vocalist on Earth (in fact she is often referred to as the "Valkyrie Goddess of Metal" among other such titles.) The band was actually founded by their keyboardist who also writes about 95% of their music and lyrics and he is often referred to as "The Metal Mozart". Also, as an interesting fact, their vocalist is actually married to the drummer of Sabaton. P.S. I also recommend having the lyrics handy as well (to better appreciate to the magnificent poetry behind them).

Actually, the OP got it partly right. The reason why Yevdokia Rashkevich went out to find her girls was not that they had been accused of betrayal, it was simply a matter of military awards. As Soviet military protocols dictated, if anyone went Missing-In-Action (MIA), the Soviet high command could not be sure as to their ultimate fate. And in the Soviet Union, if a service member defected or deserted, their families could face imprisonment or execution. This meant that the girls' families would not be given military awards posthumously, that the girls had earned during the war. This would have included any back pay and other awards for service. The point is, it was all because of military protocols, and making sure the girls that went down were not forgotten. As a result, the record for the Night Witches of the Soviet Air Forces' 588th Night Bombing Regiment is one of the most accurate records created of any unit, in any war.

@ellareacts: I have to correct you on something: The Night Witches _was not,_ I repeat, _was not_ about empowering women. The decision by Russian dictator Josef Stalin to even form the 588th, and other air units, had to do with Stalin needing bodies on the Eastern Front, whether it was pilots flying a World War I-era biplane, or women serving as snipers and spies. On the Eastern Front, nobody was exempt from serving Russia in some way. Everybody was expendable. This meant that women were conscripted just like men were, and were held to the same standards. The difference is, Russian women had heard stories about how German men treated civilians in occupied countries, like Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia, and the basic gist was, Russian women did not want to face torture, abuse, and death at the hands of German military units, like the Waffen SS. So, rather than stay behind while the men fought, women like Commissar Yevdokiya Rashkevich sought Stalin's permission to form military units and take the fight to the Germans. Remember, in 1941, had things gone a bit different, Stalin could have surrendered Moscow at the end of Barbarossa and Operation: Typhoon. And at that point in time, Stalin had very little equipment and not many troops to force the Germans on the retreat. So the way Stalin dealt with this was, letting women fly planes, command tanks, and teach them to be snipers. The way Stalin thought about it, if women were just as much part of the war as the men were, that meant more bombs, more guns, and more ammunition being shot at or dropped on the Germans. Again, it had nothing to do with empowering women -- it had to do with needing bodies to take the fight to the enemy. This was also why, after World War II, Kalishnikov invented the AK-47: So that, in his words, "anyone, man or woman, could pick up this rifle, and without much training, be competent in using it to repel an invading army."
