Sabbath School with Author Mark Finley | Lesson 1 - Q2- 2024 

God is still calling us to day to choose Him as our master to obey and serve Him using the freedom given to us wisely. Blessed is he who hear, read and put in action the word of God. Thanks pastor.

Loved the second paragraph on Sabbath afternoon "God is a God of incredible love..." This paragraph needs to be repeated each week, and everything needs to be looked at through this lens. I am a Register Nurse, now retired but until recently was predominately working in a busy Brisbane (Australia) Emergency Department and very happy to tell people (usually staff members SM) that I am a Christian but don't believe in the God that most Christian believe in, the conversation normally went something like this: SM: So what God do you believe in? Me: My God is not into domestic violence. SM: Huh? Me: Do you have a partner? SM: Yes. Me: If your partner was to tell you that they loved you but if you didn't love them back that they would use physical force, or emotional manipulation or some sort of punishment toward you, what would that do for your love for them? SM: It would lessen it. Me: That is the God most Christians believe in. They believe God loves them but if you don't love Him back He will burn and torture you forever in hell or kill you or punish you in some way. Yet they insist that they love Him but it has nothing to do with fear. In psychology and psychiatry these are called mutually exclusive beliefs and make no sense whatsoever. We see domestic violence victims coming in all the time with the same belief system. SM: Hmmm. Your right. But what about the two God's in the Bible? Me: What two Gods? SM: You know, the Old Testament One who kills and punishes and the New Testament One who is completely different. Me: Glad you asked... Unfortunately the second paragraph on Monday's lesson has turned God into a domestic abuser to get his way by suggesting, "This war obviously includes some kind of physical element." REALLY? Zech 4:6 ...'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty. (NIV) "God could have destroyed Satan and his sympathizers as easily as one can cast a pebble to the earth; but He did not do this. Rebellion was not to be overcome by force. Compelling power is found only under Satan's government. The Lord's principles are not of this order. His authority rests upon goodness, mercy, and love; and the presentation of these principles is the means to be used. God's government is moral, and truth and love are to be the prevailing power." (The Desire of Ages p. 759). So how did Satan get cast out of heaven? You will need to look up the full setting for yourself, but it was the lead up to the crucifixion: John 12:30-32 Jesus answered and said, "This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sakes. Now is the judgement of this world. Now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw to Myself." (MKJV) According to Jesus, Satan was cast out of heaven at his crucifixion. We know from the book of Job that he still had access to heaven well after the fall of man. What was it about the cross that restricted his access to heaven? We just need to go a couple more pages along from the last quote in The Desire of Ages. "Satan saw that his disguise was torn away. His administration was laid open before the unfallen angels and before the heavenly universe. He had revealed himself as a murderer. By shedding the blood of the Son of God, he had uprooted himself from the sympathies of the heavenly beings. Henceforth his work was restricted. Whatever attitude he might assume, he could no longer await the angels as they came from the heavenly courts, and before them accuse Christ's brethren of being clothed with the garments of blackness and the defilement of sin. The last link of sympathy between Satan and the heavenly world was broken." (The Desire of Ages 761). Let's not forget that Lucifer (when Satan was still Luficer) made accusations about the character of God at the very beginning of the conflict. He has been trying to get us to believe that God's character is like his. This controversy is about the character of God that is why we need to interpret and if necessary reinterpret what we believe based on God's character being love. After the cross the minds of the unfallen beings were sealed. They would have nothing to do with Satan or his angels. He was therefore restricted to this earth because we were the only ones who would listen to him.

Eve had overstated the words of God's command. He had said to Adam and Eve, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” In Eve's controversy with the serpent, she added “Neither shall ye touch it.” Here the subtlety of the serpent appeared. This statement of Eve gave him advantage; he plucked the fruit and placed it in her hand, using her own words, He hath said, If ye touch it, ye shall die. You see no harm comes to you from touching the fruit, neither will you receive any harm by eating it. . Con 14.2

If without freedom of choice between good and evil there is no love, then evil is necessary for true love to exist. That is, without evil there cannot be good. If there were no demons, there would be no saints. Nothing happens that easily; you have to pay for everything good.
