He is from Europe and Europeans especially from the northern part like him have a very different mentality than Americans do. She even pointed out the cultural differences herself in her little song about him that "it's just his culture". Men from Ireland are known for their drinking and fighting etc. not just Barry. The amount of people taking these rumors as gospel is hilarious.
