Really good interview, he's fantastically candid, and Jenelle is one of the best interviewers I've ever witnessed - always consistently well-informed and apposite in her questions but never intrusive -excellent on all counts.
I seriously hope nothing bad ever happens to Sacha. He's right how people in crowds can lose control and can get scary. I imagine his family gets nervous with him doing these things.
Thank you for this! I'm discovering this by accident in LA, CA, USA at 3am on 9/29, a few day before my 83rd BD. I need to watch this later this date whenever my long suffering #1 Daughter rolls me out of bed, fresh for a new COVID day. Cohen would be my hero except he's way my junior and those with heroes younger than themselves embarrass me. Still, the man worked his ass off and took his life in his hands last year to dis-elect Trump but one man can't do everything...
what an insightful and compelling interview! rad and thorough job by the interviewer and so fascinating to hear all of Sacha's stories and methods unrushed in this longer format. Thanks!!
Such a good interview! Janelle knew when to talk and when to let Sacha talk. Inalways watch her interviews and she’s really good. Sacha is such a cerebral actor, the way he thinks about a character was very inteiguing esp the serendipity of how he evolved in his comedy. Thanks for this interview
~💞~ I love this interview of Sacha, by Jenelle. Excellently done...I could listen to Sacha speak for hours. He has a captivating voice & mesmerizing eyes...I too loved being in plays in HS & college....I studied my lines prior to getting class assignments done - average began to fall - opps!!! I starred in Anton Chekhov's "The Boor" also known as (The Bear), as Mrs. Popov during my sophomore year...Congratulations to Sacha on the awards received & blessings for many more. ~💞~
Great interview! I had just seen a similar thing where as part of a course, a woman was undercover and through the course it was imperative not to break cover, and was sooooo taken by the idea that she was an actor acting like someone else. The mental fatigue seemed astronomical, but I loved it. Long story short, when Sascha talks about this as a type of acting, fireworks went off in my brain! This is Brilliant!!! I never realized what I was so impressed by before. Click. (dare I admit how out of touch I am I have never seen Borat)
He is an absolute genius. I had the Ali g book that was made and basically even more bio and info and carried on in the same language. Wether he wrote it or not but the way he goes all out and comitted to everything be does is inspiring to say the least
The comparison to Charlie Chaplin is spot on! Sacha Baron Cohen is an absolutely brilliant satirist of human foibles and follies and does it right under our noses! What a brilliant trick to satirize some of the more evil factions while giving the remainder of us a way to laugh wholeheartedly at it all and to experience some well needed comic relief! ! He is a real gift to us all, no matter what camp we are in!
A truly Vitruvian performer of this century. This format of interviewing was just right in revealing Sacha Baron Cohen's talent and humanity. "No ego" - a great lesson.
loool this is so hilarious him constantly saying tell me if its too long, every 10 min or so, tell me its too much, you can cut it out anyways loool :D nooo we want it longer, we want 10h interview lol week long interview :D
Such a great interview. Cohen's stories about getting started were very interesting as well as his process for preparing for his roles. I looked up his Charlie Chaplin award, with the background info from this interview, it was incredibly funny.
He is my favourite creator; witty, smart, talented, funny, humble, kind, genius, brave, curious, selfless... I could go on and on. His movies are made with such genius; they make you laugh while exposing the real issues, and all done via interaction with the public. A true comedic expose. Can he please make movies for the rest of his his life, and then speak for hours telling us his life stories?
I never really understood Sacha Baron Cohen's Ali G, Borat and Brüno films. But my opinion of him and his work has undergone a total turnaround. I now totally get why he didn't like to give interviews: "as himself", "out of character". And didn't want to explain himself and give away his "game". But I'm sooo glad he has now decided to finally open-up and share, what his process & aim were: with those particular movies. Such a deep thought process behind it all. What a disciplined actor and creative mind. When I saw his keynote address, back in November 2019, at the Anti Defamation League (ADL). On 'Anti-Semitism and Hate', it was the first time I developed an instant and deep respect for him. I felt the urge to share that political speech publicly on FB (yeah kind of ironic😅, as Sacha slams FB👏🏻👏🏻). In the hope people would hear/heed his important message! www.adl.org/news/article/sacha-baron-cohens-keynote-address-at-adls-2019-never-is-now-summit-on-anti-semitism This was also such a wonderful interview👍🏻. Giving him room to just talk. He is so eloquent👌🏻❤️. Ever time he said; "Tell me when I need to shut up" I would just shout out loud; "Oh no, no, please keep talking!!"😅
yeah he is a great interview always fun and interesting. he is so different. i could listen to him talk about abbie hoffman all day. anything. and jennine. she lost weight and looks so pretty.
[SAME DAY hours later]: Terrific interview. Thanks again! BTW, Jenelle, you had a great subject but you're in legendary Terry Gross country as an interviewer. :)
Such an amazing conversation! It seems like his relationship with the costumes department is significant. I'd love to see an interview with him where he speaks more about it!
i think abbey hoffman was murdered. i forget the particulars, he was killed in pennsylvania by the government. but when i read about what happened it sounded suspcious and i though the he was killed. but they made it look like an accident. apparently he also suffered from schizophrenia. god rest his soul
I really do appreciate this interviewer letting him speak and not caring about a paper full of bad questions or something like every other interview lately. I definitely hope to see a lot more of her. Love Sascha as always one of the funniest people I've ever seen.
An important lesson to all. He showed resilience and courage when others never believed in him. He went after what he wanted to do and is now the ultimate 'harlequin' jester. Not sure there will be another of his like again.
The funniest and saddest thing, is the total raised for SAG-AFTRA Foundation Support for performers and children's literacy $174 in 4 months. Good to see the working and wealthy actors are so supportive.
Good interview. As a Christian Conservative and Trump supporter I disagree with his view of President Trump. The media representation of Trump is a caricature and not really him. The Trump family have been friends to Israel for years. British liberals are wrong on every issue from Abortion to Zionism. Mr Cohen is funny though.
