I watched it with my dad, it was night time here in Italy. I remember we wanted the Lakers to lose so bad and the tension of the series was so high that when five minutes were missing he told me "I can't take it, I'll go". Now I'm 43, my dad is gone and I'm a dad myself
I know the prime Warriors could beat this Kings team but I promise you this Kings team could beat any of the Warrior teams also….Bibby put up the same production as Curry in the playoffs and they were more balanced 1-5 with great size, shooting, length and craftiness. This team is severely underrated in NBA history, they were very good at every position, the problem was they went up against 2 of the top 5 players to ever play the game who were surrounded by 3 vastly underrated guys in Horry, Fisher, and Fox….who played their roles the best in the league….they were feisty defenders/dead eye shooters/clutch and just winners….they have a combined 15 rings between those 3. That’s though to beat. I think this is the best team in NBA History actually.
@@marvinwilliams7938knicks fan. Kings blew game 4 and 7. Game 6 was definitely officiate odd but i only remembered one crappy call and it was Kobe elbowing Bibby in the face off the inbound. Akso it was an extremely close game. Game 7 they choked. Lakers deserved n earned a trip back 2 the finals.
@@barbarapaparella1833definitely didn’t, that whole game was rigged, Chris Webbers perfect block got called as a foul and the other foul u just mentioned should’ve been a technical. Even tho Kings did not win games 4 and 7, that game 6 would’ve solidified a finals spot either way, worst rigged game I ever seen
I was second row for this series in Sacramento. This game was epic. I have never been in an arena that matched the energy at Arco in all my life. This was the most fun time to be a NBA fan. The Kings should have gone to the finals this season.
@@GabrielMancha who lost? Lakers won the series in 7 and divac guarded Shaq the majority of the series 😂 u should not talk basketball. U clearly are too young to have a clue what happened… Shaq was a god damn monster in the series being doubled n triple teamed n still put up by far the best numbers. And the kings are my favorites team. But no one could deal with Shaq. They had to double n triple n that left Kobe always in single coverage or wide open. You just didn’t watch especially if u thin the kings won😂 it’s one of the most infamous series of all time. U r really ignorant about basketball history
I was at this game. Section 219, Row 4 (upper deck in the corner, diagonal from the Kings' bench). Nobody sat down for 48 minutes (or at least it seemed like it). Every possession felt like life and death. When Bibby hit that jumper that turned out to be the game winner, the explosion of sound was like nothing I have ever heard. I literally thought the walls of Arco were going to crumble like Jericho. You couldn't hear yourself think! When Kobe's last shot left his hand, from our seats, it looked good off the hand. My heart was ready to sink the way it did after Horry's game-winner in Game 4. When it rimmed off, the explosion of sound returned and the euphoria was like nothing I have ever felt at a sporting event. The only thing that even came close was Kevin Martin's game-winner against the Spurs in the playoffs a few years later. It felt like we had won the championship. Too bad we still had to win one more game after that. The NBA prevented us from doing so in Game 6, and then we blew it in Game 7 by missing 14 FT's and missing a wide-open 3 pointer in regulation. Still the greatest playoff series ever played in my opinion, though!
it's a shame the kings have been a joke for so long but I'm glad they finally appeared to have turned it around. they're really good this year. they have a great fan base and I love watching playoff games with fans like this.
I still can’t believe the Kings lost this series 20 years later. Great synopsis though, I only made it to one playoff game during this era at Arco against the Twolves in 2004. Atmosphere was electric then as well
Arco Arena felt like a magical place to me. I'll never forget the smell. I was 10 years old in 2001 when I went to my first Kings game. I'm glad you got to witness this game live. I bet this video brought back amazing memories.
People always complain about officials in game 7, but this game was handed to the kings by the refs. Webber set a moving screen to free up bibby, Bryant fouled in last play. Vlade hacked shaq a lot with no calls. Kings just took their medicine and cried about it. They shouldn’t have blown the 24 pt lead in game 4. That’s what cost then the series.
Really? So game 6 4th quarter didnt blow the series for them? 26ft given to LA in that 4th quarter? A ref going to prison for having the crew rig the game isnt enough proof? Lol
Seriously! If I had a time machine to travel back in time, the first thing I would want to witness is MJ's prime time in Chicago. The second thing would be the Sacramento Kings from 2002.
The Shaqramento Queens. Owned by Los Angeles like literally every NBA team in history. It felt so good putting them in their place and watching them disappear again haha
@@Facto_Sapien10 yeah it was rigged for the Queens to win but the Lakers were too good. Then they changed the story to make the Lakers look bad. It's all politics. At least the entire series wasn't rigged like lebron's comeback against Golden State which had the betting gambling scandal attached to it.
Probably the Playoffs the most I personally enjoyed and felt the most excitement during between the Kings and the Lakers.. I don’t even know if the Kings were the underdogs at that time. So many unknown players who were very exciting to watch.. RIP Kobe!
@@dannyhayes6186 did you miss the 27 free throws in 4th quarter of game 6? Widely called the most rigged game in nba history by every analyst . Encapsulated by Bryant elbowing Mike Bibby and busting his nose, & bibby was called for the foul. The lakers didn’t make a shot for 6 minutes in the 4th because they shot so many free throws . Shaq had 4 fouls, sacramentos centers had 20 fouls . Gotta be a homer to believe there wasn’t some bs
@@gnielsen07 the Lakers shot 27 foul shots in the 4th quarter because the kings were doing hack a shaq. Game 4 Mike Bibby pushed fisher to the ground to make the game winner.
They say the refs cheat for the Lakers in game 6 but Webber threw it out of bounds at 11.4 and he committed an illegal screen right after that but no call. Also it looked like Divac fouled Kobe the play before that, but the refs cheated for the Lakers only right? 😂
@@lainiwakura6921 yea I watched the whole series live back then as a kid, except for game 3. But my point is the refs helped both teams, it was not only the Lakers. And besides Sacramento food poisoned Kobe right before game 2 and that effected his playing. Maybe the Lakers beat them in 5 or 6 games had they not did that to Kobe.
Shaq for 3 years was the best player I ever watched. Prime LeBron, Magic, Bird, Kobe all would’ve been second fiddle players. The only player that maybe could’ve made Shaq the #2 option is maybe MJ, but it would’ve been razor close.
The NBA was so f*cking INTENSE back then. These dudes were playing with their legacies on the line and they knew it. Now it’s more about getting the most bread possible and the most followers on the gram. There’s too much extra these days. This was “Who will be remembered as the best basketball players and team. That’s all we got and that’s all that matters.”
The kings got every call in game 5, shaq was fouled out for bad calls, game 6 the kings did hack and shaq the whole 4th quarter that is why the lakers shot so many foul shots
@@kingxavier1161 are we acting like divac didn't flop every play to put shaq in foul trouble, or Mike Bibby didn't push fisher to make the game winner, Lakers shot more foul shots because the kings did hack a shaq
Check your facts, Tim Donaghy didn't ref this series. He was later caught rigging other games and claimed during the investigation that Game 6 of this series was rigged (which it obviously was).
@@ianbent0n yea but the Kings blew game 4 and game 7. Also I watched game 6 and Shaq made a ton of free throws so Idk how rigged it was especially if he was officiating.
So...Game 6 is 'rigged'...but the ending of Game 5 is ALWAYS ignored. Webber loses the ball, the refs give it back to the Kings. Webber cross body blocks Fisher better than Ricky Steamboat to set up Bibby's go ahead jumper, no call. Then, Bobby Jackson literally pulls Kobe's JERSEY out of his shorts playing 'defense' on the last possession, no foul. But yes, Shaq getting calls for playing like Shaq at home when the Lakers finally just pulverized Sac inside is 'rigged'. LMAO.
Fisher fuckin flopped n no ref is calling an illegal screen in that huge of a moment especially when fisher is flopping it’s up to the players to decide not the refs
As kid in High School in Sac, the Kings were on fire and everybody had Jerseys on at school. It was so heartbreaking when they lost. That team was something special.
Lakers were fucking robbed in this game. You'll never hear Sacramento fans say anything about this game. Instead they'll blame the refs for game 6 but not Peja for airballing a 3 to win the series. The refs made Horry hit that 3 to crush your souls? I don't care what anyone says, I'll take it to my grave Game 5 not Game 6 was the most rigged in this series and even the players will tell you that
we were the better Team, we should have won over the Lakers, and had victory over the nets..? i think it was.. for sure we would have beat the nets and had a championship..
Webber screen was legal, he didn't lean sideways or anything that screen is legit. But he lost the ball before that I think. Kobe's last shot was not fouled so it was all fair imo
Sacramento Queens are the 2002 champs in your mind and its funny that they haven't made the playoffs since I was 8 years old in the 3rd grade now im 24 with 2 kids lmao y'all suck
The Kings have been the only team I really wanted to see win a title almost as bad as the Magic. I really liked the way they played, and the way they had no "legends", but a team. The Lakers were the opposite. Bought a title. Bandwagon fans. Two massive egos on the court, one on the bench. Fake, fake, fake. I just knew how terrible the East was, and this series was the real Finals. The Kings got hosed btw.
remember the rock having a concert at sacramento saying the best thing about sacramento is leaving sacramento lol. that was the rivalry between lakers and kings
2:01 in modern NBA Bibby just watch Fox penetrate instead of stripping... unless he's GWs, Miami or Boston who still play D. Other teams like Sun just watch on defense and offense. It's cringe watching the modern NBA. Thank god GSW and Miami exist.
The ball was out of bounds of webber, last touch by webber lakers ball GAME OVER but instead they gave it to the kings, further webber ran over fisher another foul in favor for the kings. Last play Bobby Jackson fouled Kobe he was pulling his jersey roughing him up playing football on Kobe, they should give free throws for Kobe end of the game. The Lakers should win game 5, it was completely rigged on favor of the kings
Webber screen was legal, he didn't lean sideways or anything that screen is legit. But he lost the ball before that I think. Kobe's last shot was not fouled so it was all fair imo, he clearly knew Kobe was going to turn and go right since that was his signature move And in no way it was worse than game6. Away game 15+ points up and the rigging was for the entire quarter against the Kings.
Il Kobe di qualche anno dopo, non avrebbe Mai preso un tiro così brutto e sicuro che non sarebbe entrato, avrebbe attaccato il ferro, prendendo fallo al peggio.
I love how everyone talks about the game 6 and that. Webber clearly illegal screens Fisher before Bibby's game winner & the ball went off Webber, too before Bibby's shot.
