I don't understand why you guys are complaining about him keeping the fish? The law said you can keep 18 and up then there's a reason why. You guys don't like stripers but there are people that like it. He paid for the fishing license and its not cheap lol. Thanks for the location bro. Im gonna go there.
ay i go to the same place but different spot and i use mud sucker. i lost three huge bite but i got a 25 inch today😇 ( also use braided line to throw far and when the water low thats when it’s going to bite )
Should’ve took your pics and let it go. That’s a big female and we need those in our system so we can keep fishing. Awesome job but please let those ones go.
Alexander Crotzer TBH with you I seldom fish for striped bass this was one of the first times I’ve specifically targeted them. In my opinion I think the striper need to be eradicated. They are a none native species to California, they are also an invasive species and a predatory species. They mainly feed off of juvenile salmon and steelhead. Salmon is my favorite fishery and California’s most precious renewable resource. I strongly believe the stripe bass are destroying the salmon fishery. If the Striper were not in our rivers the salmon runs would be more then double what it has been. It would be how it was back in the day when people would catch limits of chrome in 15 minutes. That doesn’t happen anymore it’s extremely hard to catch salmon in your river system because the runs are nothing like they used to be. A lot of that is mismanagement of our hatcheries and them not shutting the gate after they have what they need at the hatchery. They are killing and selling off our salmon to Canada that should be allowed to reproduce naturally. The stripe bass will eat juvenile salmon up to 18”. I say fuck the stripe bass eradicate them all wouldn’t you rather have our rivers full of salmon then these stripe bass filled with mercury that are basically poisonous to eat?
Tim Henderson I actually didn’t keep it I don’t have a taste for stripe bass. My friend I handed the rod off to kept for a family dinner. They make tacos and ceviche.
Old man and the sea . I’ve been fishing the bay delta since 1959 . There were 15 times as many striper and salmon in the 1960’s and 70’s . Both populations sustained well until the water pumps in the delta started sending water to Southern California . Along went the small fish , eggs , fry , of both species . It’s not the stripers fault for low populations of salmon . It’s 99% the greedy politicians and community leaders in this lost state . Nice catch .
Basically a standard live bait halibut / striper rig. Sliding snell knot on a live bait hook 30# mono and then a size 2/0 stinger. Hook the minnow through the lip and then put the stinger in the back of spine or let it hang below the fish. I always put the stinger in the back.
The Smokin’ Salmon I didn’t want too lol but it was Jeese’s spot he took me too and I already had some action plus I only brought one rod and be brought three and let me fish his extra rod when I caught some live bait! I wanted the homie to feel that fight. Hardest thing to do in fishing is handing the rod off when you got one on, but it’s worth it when they land the fish!
It was that minnow in the video I’d guess about 14-15 inches and about 2 pounds it was a minnow my friend said was to large to use 😂 any size minnow should get their attention
Im all about the salmon these fish eat salmon they need to be eradicated they are a non native species but that's just my opinion. I let my buddy who I handed the rod off to land it and he wanted to keep it.
@@OldManAndTheSea so do we need to eradicate pheasants and turkeys too? Both are non native. Ya stripers eat baby salmon but water agencies kill far more salmon every time they decide to drop the flows right after the salmon spawn. They kill millions of fish every year before the eggs even hatch.
I've heard from one of my buddies uncles that was a deckhand on the sturgeon king about 10 years that they will hit live bait, and that he even caught them on Cheetos before lol.
@@OldManAndTheSea Freeport bait and tackle was so legit when I found em last week!! fishing by the bridge was coo but I need to find a spot like you have, something more secluded
I fought the fish for about 5 minutes then handed the rod off to my buddy and he fought it for about 10 minutes it didn’t want to come up off the bottom.
Great video , but it would have been way cooler if you would have released her . She is a big breeder and we need to keep those genetics in the system , they are getting fewer and fewer of the big fish anymore
Marty Duarte why are people so protective over striped bass? They are a non-native invasive species. They are polluting our waterways. I was commercial fishing last week on one day of our 5 day run I hooked up 24 times 14 times it was a 18-22 inch striper attacking my 6-7 inch herring. That is 14 striped on the boat and I wasn’t even targeting that species. These striped bass basically eat all our juvenile salmon and steelhead. This video shows that female eating live bait that was 17” and about 2lbs. A female like this will eat about 10-15 salmon daily. Do the math on how many salmon this fish are in a year. I am a salmon fisherman since I was 10 years old I have steadily watched the salmon decline due to these disgusting striped bass. They are not healthy to eat and filled with mercury. Wouldn’t you rather have people catching limits of salmon like they do limits of Striper. Imagine fishing for halibut and accidentally catching 12 salmon. That’s how it would be if these Striper were eradicated. I am for the eradication of striped bass I rather feed this fish to my dogs then see it in the river system. Do your research striped bass are running our salmon fishery ask any real fisherman.
@@OldManAndTheSea Both fisheries are in decline. The Salmon fishery is a total hoax due to low water flows amongst other factors. Without the hatchery, there wouldn't be much of a Salmon fishery. Protect the fish's environment. 40 years ago the Striped Bass population was way larger than now and so were the Salmon. It's the water grab not one fish-killing all the other fish. Ask the old timers. Guya from 70-80 years old. They will tell ya what happened. Unfortunately, in nature, it is survival of the fittest and salmon have a hard time reproducing with low flows and high water temps. That is the driving force. Don't believe everything the government tells ya. Most of them are bought.
@@OldManAndTheSeawhile your right that stripers eat salmon smolts, the stripers aren’t the reason we don’t have salmon like we used to. There have always been predators like the native pikeminnows and there were stripers back when we used to have healthy salmon populations that ate salmon. The real reason we don’t have salmon anymore is because of the dams and the fact that the corrupt state of California doesn’t leave any water in the rivers. It is all used to grow oranges in the desert (ca aqueduct) or to grow almonds (80% of which are shipped to china). If there was enough water in the river the stripers wouldn’t have a large impact on the salmon smolt populations because they would get pushed right past.
@@extremeuasportsandoutdoors6557 No hating bro just looking out for the species we already lose alot of fish to the California aqueduct just trying to make sure our grandchildren's children can catch a striper 1 day!
Anyone who says shit like "Dope ass catch" wouldn't understand... "Bro!" Big stripers like that are female and are the ones that replenish the stock. People that know about striper fishing understand this and let the big ones go. Especially now that the State is gonna try to eradicate stripers in the Sacramento / San Joaquin river system. No one's disliking the catch... it's the keep!
Nice catch man! Was this really here in Sac taken today? Shows your video so sunny mid day. It's been raining here is Sac for the past 3 day. I've fish too for Stripers almost everyday, and I'll tell you, I was out there in a pouring rain by S.River Road across from Garcia Bend yesterday.
HookNCook73 this was Friday up toward colusa just got around to posting if you add me on Instagram @joey997 you can see where I fish daily. I will be in the bay fishing next couple days!
Old Man And The Sea I see! Gotcha bro! I’ve seen your videos since last year and been back/forth on comments. Already in your channel. Hook me up on the spot would like to check it out!
