In June 1997 Diana, Princess of Wales, auctioned off 79 of her dresses for charity. Two months later she died in the car crash in Paris. What did the new owners of her dresses feel now? A 1999 documentary for BBC TV and HBO.

@@21ROEHAMPTON NO! NO! Don't be Grace Kelly. GOOD GOD, NO!!! She was a ho! Go read up on her. Don't just be throwing names out there because you think they sound cute without really knowing who you're speaking about! She did Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, et al. I wouldn't want to be Cleopatra either, sleeping around with Caesar and being his baby mama while he was married. I assume you mean Queen Elizabeth the Second--ok, yes, but I wouldn't want to be like the first either. Little do you know you just swapped your opportunity to be common trash by becoming uncommon trash!
I Wish Princess Diana was still alive today to enjoy being a grandmother to prince Williams children if only she wouldn't have gone to Paris that night she would still be alive today
@@billyhart9710 , If Diana had chosen to take the advice of her sensible son, Prince William, she would never have gone back to Paris. If Diana had chosen to take the advice of the man who loved her, Dr Hasnat Khan, she would never have gone back to Paris. Diana had chosen to trust two men who did not love her, but wanted the most valuable female in the world as a business asset. If they had CARED for Diana and valued her as a woman, she would probably still be alive today.
I've been looking for this show for years-thanks for the upload! One of my favorites was the red/black hi-low gown made by Bruce Oldfield. The late Princess of Wales pairing mis-matched gloves was pure fashion genius. I also adore the silver lame gown and the red with gold tread gown made by the same designer. I'm an American. Far too many of us are so gauche. Few have panache, and this footage reminds me of that fact.
Sorry but my interest kept being disrupted by whatever the heck that was that was narrating. Was that a robot? They sure couldn’t read their lines properly. It would have been so fascinating to be attending that luncheon with all of the different archaeologists! The residence is so beautiful & deserves to be seen to be appreciated for it’s charm.
Barbara giving away the three dresses that she had bought was a very kind and thoughtful thing to do, I doubt many of the other buyers will ever do that ?.
Certainly NOT the weirdo in the garnet, marshmallow shaped turbin and black, super short dress, sitting in a chair. Alongside, is a zombie looking body guard, supposedly protecting one of Di's gowns. Nice freak show, Richmond, VA!! The scene is totally disrespectful, because this person is completely opposite of the gracious, elegant, and most charitable Diana.
I terribly miss princess Diana 🥺 it breaks my heart whenever i see people wearing her dresses. i still can't believe she's gone and never coming back again. how i wish🥺🥺🥺😭💔💔
Beautiful careing woman with the biggest heart ive ever seen. This worderful amazing woman is the queen to me. Also the best member of that family. Since we lost her that family is sinking faster than the titanic did. Her 2 wonderful sons are the only reason they havent hit the ground yet. As her brother said she didnt need that title hrh. I believe she was far to good for that family and they did kill her out of jelousy RIP Princess Diana you will never be forgotten xxx
*She meant in and out and the way people adored her. You should say Aishwarya rai who comes from your country like what the rest say. What will the women you mentioned going to do for you? In every comment section commenting the same?* 😂😂😂
I am an Indian but Aishwarya Rai has never been a match of Princess Diana. Aishwarya Rai is very beautiful too but Princess Diana was miles ahead to everyone in terms of beauty, charm, style, elegance, innocence, politeness and kindness etc. May God Rest her soul in peace🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
@Catherine Graham Her wedding dress was very much in line with the 1981 style, as far as the puffy sleeves were concerned. But,.the bodice neckline with all the gathered ruffles, looks more like English medieval.
I think its really interesting how almost all of these purchases were made to help in their charity work. It's a lot of money to spend and I think its a lovely thought to have.
Matt - I believe it was Diana's sons who came up with the idea of selling the dresses for charity- they have taken their mother's works & deeds for charity to heart and are carrying on with her legacy.
@@elizabethsheffield6609 , it is true that Prince William came up with the idea, but it happened during Diana's lifetime. When you write "they have taken their mother's works & deeds for charity to heart and are carrying on with her legacy." , this s NONSENSE. Charitable work is what the Royal Family DOES. Unlike Diana, the rest of the Family (with the exception of the Monarch) DIRECTS and CHAIRS charitable funds that provide for the needs of MILLIONS of people world wide. The disadvantaged, the starving, the homeless, th people affected by disaster and war. Diana DID what Diana was good at- held hands, hugged babies, said kind words.... and walked away.
*If you tell the person it was supposed to written like this and not like that without including the word nonsense, wont have caused you a penny. Try to be kind like Diana as the way you wrote*
Glenys Dunford In fact, the real people's Princess was Mary Adelaide of Teck, Queen Mary's mother, who did so much for charity that she just about bankrupted her family. She was given the name people's Princess in the 1880s. Bet Blair and co didn't know that when they made him say that. Honestly, I don't think it as justified for Diana. She did a lot of good, but not by bankrupting herself. That is true dedication. She also shunned publicity for the good she did, certainly not tipping off the media.
Johnny Hollingsworth The real People's Princess was Mary of Tech, Queen Mary's mother, who was given that title in the 1880s, when she practically bankrupted herself to help the poor.
My favourite quality about Diana was her sense of humour, her laugh/giggle. She wasn’t as prim, proper and snooty as the rest, even though the Queen wanted her to be!
This was a great tribute for agreat princess who will always be remembered for her courage and determination and compassion and commitment to the people she loved and that was evident in her words lined up with her actions she will always be remembered as loving caring kind and generous and compassionate she auctioned off her dresses for charity to raise money 💰 to help others and some of the people who bought these dresses 👗 are keeping her legacy alive by using them to raise money for charity and that is awesome ❤keep up the good work Americans and all these other people who live in other countries are doing the same thing way to go Diana would be proud of all of you for celebrating her life with your beautiful charity funding ❤😊
At the time I didn't pay a lot of attention to Diana. And yet the morning of her death I'll never forget. Making food for my sons 3rd birthday party. I even forgot to tell my husband an auntie passed away. Found that out minutes after Di. I wish for her family we could let her rip but it doesn't appear to be possible.
Diana found her style with time. Her latest dresses were the best, most suitable for her. She had many of them in different colours or length. These are my favourite and I bet she felt like a new woman in them, comfortable and sure of herself. Clothes can do that to us. Not all of her early clothes were like that, maybe just the opposite. But she was very charming, had a very nice skin complexion, her eyes, when without too much make up, were really striking. Her blue eyeliner which she had used on her lower eyelid, did something magical for her. People said it was old fashioned but it suited her. She was always so immaculately turned out and I don't know how she did it. None of them in the royal family look like that. Kate wears far too much makeup, which makes her look older. Make up should be almost invisible, just to enhance our features, not draw them on our face. Diana did just that early on in her life as princess 😊
loved diana just as the kind, good person that she was. but i never felt any....NEED to ATTACH myself, mentally, spiritually, emotionally or any other way TO her.....she was who she was and i am who i am......and that works for me....
Yes they are..you can't handle historical value in that way....they are sooo glad just to own them and they don't think of the bigger picture..mm, jfk dress is the way to do it
WOW just wow, 25 years on and I wonder where these 97 gowns are now? Anyone have an idea? If so please would you share? Also imagine if more celebrities did more generous things like this.... Has a jumble sale like this ever been repeated on any scale?
He didn't care about her, ever! All he cared about were his boy heirs. Actually, he didn't care much for Harry because he had red hair and wasn't a girl. I can't imagine someone like Charles, who looked like a cross between Ichabod Crain and Dumbo the flying elephant could complain about hair color, or gender of a child!
About Sacred Relics Princess Diana must pass so many test along her way physically and spiritually in her life supposedly without any confusion or any conflict from her Royal duty to her ordinary endeavor to become faithful to her God
Jakki B I know it looks that way, but before condemning them all please watch a yt documentary on how many people Charles has helped, because it surprised me ! His charity does wonderful things for some of the people who you think are beyond help or change. It's amazing.
@@vivians9392 Diana was a backstabber, that's why they had to get rid of her. Listen to James Whitaker on the Diana Years part 14 near the very end. He says, "they will get rid of people and that includes people that marry into them." they had no idea about the Morton book until it was done and they had no idea about the Martin Bashir interview until it was done. She went behind their backs. Most of her staff quit on her after the Panorama interview. If you were the Queen and your daughter-in-law got on national television inviting the subjects to doubt your son's ability to be King... How would you have handled it?
I loved and still do love Diana. You guys lost me within minutes of this video... When that awful lady let her daughter wear one of Diana's dresses... Just sortly after she died... If I could ever afford to have anything of that stature... I would have never allowed anyone else to wear it.
Thank goodness there is some out there who also looks at life without sunglasses. She was beautiful, caring, and kind but why can’t we let her rest in peace on that lonely cold island where her brother had her placed probably to increase the visitor numbers to his home. SH
Making money off tourism to Althorp to see Diana burial spot??!! What a great brother... Don't know about everyone seeing this, but if having lots of money makes you like these nut cases, I'll be happy to keep my day job!
Of all the documentaries about the late princess of Wales, then this one has got to be the best so far?. It is very interesting to see how people are worshipping her and that her death at the young age of just thirty six years old has now immortalised her all over the world.
Like most people I found Diana's death so breath takingly sad. I've watched so many documentaries about Diana and the royals and read 100s of comments left by people. But one thing puzzles me, the fact that nobody ever mentions how her nose changed shape roughly three times during the years she was in the public eye. Sometimes a person gets surgery on their nose to alter the shape for it to magically sort of grow back again. So I assume that must have been the case. I think she had the bump filed off but it grew back. Anyone else notice ?
There were many dresses which ended up in charity shops in central London and the shop owners had no idea they were Diana's but also some were sold to boutiques in London as very strangely Diana needed cash! I know it's unbelievable, but it's true.
I love how the French women who won the dress, had so dearly hoped (smfh) that a museum would BUY the dress, so that it would be treasured and enjoyed by all. They were lucky to have won it and unless there was a life threatening financial crisis, I absolutely loathed their excuse and greed...
The French woman was a doctor’s receptionist, not a multi-millionaire like most of the other owners of the dresses. Fair enough that she sold it: she probably needed the money. It’s easy to donate to charity if you have money to burn - as most of the buyers seemed to.
Moi drodzy.
We ask governments in all countries to unite the bridge pillars as high as one or two meters so that if a car hits a bridge support, it can still slide not as badly as a car crashes into a bridge pillar so that an accident hitting a pillar like what happened to Princess Diana does not happen again, sorry and thank you
At first I was freaked out by the Southern Woman from Virginia, (weird bc I am Southern from Alabama) but we do not talk like that (lol 😂 , seriously, not that bad) but after knowing that One of Princess Diana’s dresses is in the South makes my heart ♥️ feel good, really good! We loved her too. It wasn’t the “Royalty “ that made Diana, she was Royalty without it! It is the fact that SOOOO MANY PEOPLE all across this world loved her simply because, She was an ANGEL on earth! Simply a WALKING ANGEL! And THAT is what drew people to her. Diana was too GOOD for this filthy place/world... She was Pure! God loaned her to us all to teach us something.. to teach us MANY different things. And, sadly, He took her back! But He knew what he was doing and what She could and would do!!! She did her earthly duties, and now, She is with The Lord, where She’s supposed to be! Safe, Happy, Loved, Watching Over Her Sons! She will NEVER be forgotten nor will She EVER be replaced!
Well ... little update: Mrs Minor passed on and just recently the family sold the dress for 175K for charity. I believe the dress is now back in London at the Buckingham Palace gallery where they keep several of her dresses.
I think you are correct in your assessment of her life and times. I had a scary thought about her future and men...Dodi Fayed was a son of super rich Muslim. The one before him, Dr. Hashet Khan, was married and also Muslim. They may look good to the outside world, but be sure, a wife becomes property and oppressed. SHE WAS WALKING BACK INTO UNHAPPINESS! I think God called her home to save her any more heartache.
Photos taken around these last months of Diana’s life, especially those last from Paris with Dodi Fayed, did not appear to be Diana at all. Her face had changed, and was very pale. Look at the photos.
She was a nice lady with giving to charity and trying to help people but keeping her clothes like they were a human being and giving them God like status shows exactly what she was not about
M Scott.............the only 'sacred relic' on this video is the pink waste-paper basket that woman has on her head - she could get a lot of Collection money in there.
What is this person prattling on about Diana was not a saint. Diana was the princess of Wales and wife albeit not long and a mother to William and Harry. We and I mean the public didn’t know her.
As a British taxpayer who funds the royal family including their clothing for official visits..... why should she have been allowed to sell these... She couldn't do that with jewellery now old camilla has that. What a waste of public money
