Out of all the Zieglers, Mackenzie's trauma is the most observed. For a long time (and still going strong), people continuously make out that Maddie is a "brat" and that it was her fault that Abby chose her to be the favorite. They still always compare her to Chloe or Brooke and Paige saying that they're "decently manners" and "good hearted" while she's still villainized. Melissa's trauma is just overlooked all together because the show made her out to be "conniving" and "backstabbing". Yes, she does indeed have her flaws but she's still a good mom. If you were to watch MackZBoss's Dance Moms uncovered series, you'd see that Melissa still cared a lot about both her daughters, not just Maddie. Mackenzie was the easier to sympathize with because she was cute, and she was never portrayed in a "bad light" like the rest of her family. Many people can relate to being overshadowed by their siblings, while they can't relate to constantly having a lot of pressure, being groomed to believe everyone hated you and that you were only worth something if you won, and always in some type of toxic relationship.

I think Mackenzie also has the most observed trauma, but what I meant was that with everyone in the fandom, they’re usually focused on Chloe’s or Paige’s or Brooke’s. All three of the Zieglers’ trauma is completely overlooked in my opinion. Mackenzie’s is definitely less overlooked, but she tends to be forgotten about within the fandom. I watch MackZBoss all the time, her videos are so great! Melissa and Maddie were both portrayed in villain lights, so that’s why they’re consistently hated on within the fandom, whereas Mackenzie is more just forgotten about
@@cakeyeditss Oh, I am so sorry for misunderstanding, but yes, most of the fandom focusses on Chloe, Paige, and Nia's trauma the most, undermine Brooke's and Mackenzie's, and completely ignored Maddie's. And then, they try and compare it by saying "Nia hurt the worst since Abby was racist" or "Paige was so overlooked". As Holly said, "they all hurt the same", their trauma was each very different, but the results are somewhat the same. It seems that they have found ways to cope with the experience and have all come out as respectable young ladies. With that being said, the fandom also needs to stop sending death threats to Peyton.
I was recently watching the dancemoms series again, and my mom has watched a couple with me for the first time, trying to explain that Maddie is so miss understood is such a task honestly, production really did her dirty, I’m constantly having to explain to my mom Maddie isn’t a brat and she was heavily manipulated, even production wanted Maddie to come off as this bratty kid for entertainment, they wanted that narrative, and abby instilled some negative traits in her. For me it just always seems Maddie got the most hate from the fandom even tho she also has a large following. I will always stand on the fact Maddie was extremely passionate with her craft and did deserve the recognition she got, she wasn’t leaps and bounds above her competition starting off but she truly devoted everything to it in order to vastly keep improving. The other girls did deserve more but I hate when people discredit her, sometimes stardom goes beyond just the talent but the passion and ambition and I think Maddie had that. I know some of the others did too, and for some abby took that away. But Maddie to me was my favourite for reasons such as this, as I did see something special in her. Just like Chloe, Paige, Kendall etc may be others. I loved all the girls tho, and they all deserved better. Maddie was a very competitive kid, but I think she was just very serious about reaching for the stars, to make it in the industry that’s what it takes you’ve got to have that confidence, she really wasn’t a brat she just so desperately wanted it and was a very confident kid which isn’t a bad thing. Abby also instilled in her that without winning she had no chance of getting there, these are the bad things, but Maddie is not to blame she was very much a victim but a victim in a different way in comparison to the rest.
THIS IS WHY I CONTINUOUSLY SAY, VIEW EACH DANCE MOMS MEMBER AS A CHARACTER. for instance, never view maddie as a brat, view maddie as a character on the show as a brat, but maddie herself isn't a brat. it's a tv show, you won't be judged if you think maddie as a character is bratty. if you think maddie is a brat irl, however, you're going to be judged. that's my advice lol
Mackenzie deserved better. Abby was comparing her, but also the FANDOM too! Also, when both Maddie snd Mackenzie were leaving in season 6, the main focus wss on Maddie. Maddie got 2 duets and a solo. Mackenzie almost got nothing. Its sad, honestly

If Kalani , Kendall, and Jojo were trash talking about Maddie, I just lost some respect for them, Maddie’s two best friend in the later seasons were Kendall, and Kalani, and Jojo was just trash talking a lot of other people

However, Kendall it seemed more targeted towards to Maddie and Mackenzie, which is interesting, because Maddie used to be best friends with Kendall. Then Kalani didn’t say anything about Maddie and Mackenzie, but she did trash talk Melissa about how Melissa was “sneaky and a liar” even though Melissa was the one who babysat Kalani for MONTHS because Kalani’s mom wasn’t there to take care of her. It really shows Kalani’s ungratefulness and it made me dislike her a lot more.

Kenzie had little angel which won first it just wasn’t aired in season 4. She also had a acro lyrical in season 5 nationals which got 4th place it’s called dreamer girl. And she had a acro lyrical or acro contemporary solo in season 3 called dancing barefoot which got her 3rd place.

I actually think that each and every member's story is just coming to light... As like during the show chloe and the hylands trauma was really acknowledged and during that phase maddie was portrayed as an ungrateful brat.. With the show continuing we can see in s5 or s6 Mackenzie's trauma coming in light, as the viewers felt how miserably she was compared to her sister maddie and also at that time maddie was not much active in the show which even portrayed how bad the situation with mackenzie was as abby was mostly like its the time for kenzie to shine.. and like she have to do good blah blah!! During s6 when both the Ziegler sisters were leaving than the dark tactics of the show were slowly revealed and people began to sympathize with maddie and also mackenzie(them leaving was the prime reason behind the sympathy) And then s7 chloe returned viewers going mad and then the show came to an end..(apparently there was s8 but i didn't watched it because i think dance moms is incomplete without the ogs) Now during 2020 and onwards nia's trauma was acknowledged and even now.. I often see comments talking about how she was mistreated and then most of the reality behind the show came up which rapidly increased the sympathy towards all the cast of thr show.. Now i have rarely see anyone talk about kendall like yeah she is a bit controversial but still i did see few comment and discussions about her.. That's how it is..now the point is they all don't contact abby which just shows how much trauma they had from the show.. Now i did saw some shorts from s8 and when i saw that i realized that the producers just dragged the show with new cast but with same story.. its just saddening to see 6-14 year olds suffer so much..
omg I completely agree with all of this. the show is so dark and toxic when you really think about it. when you’re just watching it’s just filled with drama and honestly funny at times, but then when you actually think about it, all the girls’ experiences were so traumatic and just absolutely terrible.

So happy someone finally mentions the fact that maddies last dance, etc didn't win. Had a friend in dance who went to the same competition as them. Someone else would win, then they would refilm it and had an aldc dancer win instead. They didn't win as much as it looked like.
FRR. The show rigged a lot of wins- that’s why sometimes the girls don’t look genuinely happy that they’ve won. Because a lot of times it wasn’t genuine lol

I agree Maddie was not bratty and it was all fake or cut. It pains me when people say “Chloe is better then Maddie” no. Maddie danced wonderfully and honestly always has been better then Chloe. I agree! I think Chloe and Maddie were both wonderful dancers, but Maddie trained a lot more than Chloe, so of course she was better. I feel like she also had a lot more emotional connection in her solos than Chloe did. Maddie was not a brat nor a liar! She was just a kid!

could u pls explain to me the whole "maddie lied about duet" thing? i mean ive heard about this situation a lot of times but i feel that i still dont get it 😭maybe some easy explanation will help
no problem! in season 4 episode 7, Abby hints that she might want Maddie to do her duet with a girl from a different studio (Kalani) at the competition. Chloe and Paige were also doing a duet. Kalani and Maddie were going to do their duet “Two Sapphires” at a different competition earlier that same day, but Abby was thinking about having the two do it at the competition the whole team was going to so nobody thought it was serious or anything, but Christi did mention that she felt like it was unfair if Kalani and Maddie did it at the competition, because Paige and Chloe learned their duet later than Kalani and Maddie did. So Chloe, in practice, asks Maddie if she’s going to do the duet, and Maddie says no because she didn’t think it was actually going to happen since it wasn’t brought up again. However, it wasn’t brought up again until the competition where she sprung it upon Melissa that she might want to actually do it. Abby explains she wants them to do it because she doesn’t feel that Paige and Chloe are going to win. Melissa tries to convince Abby out of it by saying “No, Paige and Chloe are going to win, you don’t need to put Maddie and Kalani’s duet in” and she actually is standing up for Paige and Chloe. However, Abby doesn’t listen. She goes to Maddie and tells her to get her costume on and do the duet (Maddie, being a child, obviously listens because Abby is authority). Melissa goes over to the moms and tells the others that “well, I guess they’re doing the duet.” All Christi does in this moment is just roll her eyes. So Maddie and Kalani go on stage and do their duet. When everyone gets back into the dressing room is when it gets bad. Christi says “Maddie lied to Chloe’s face! All the sudden her hair was just magically in a bun and she just magically had her costume and Kalani was just magically here.” Well, Maddie had her costume in her bag already because she went to the competition earlier that day, and then went to the next competition. There was no time in between to drop the costume off. Melissa was also the one taking Kalani in her car, so Kalani had to come to that competition regardless if they were actually going to do the duet or not. Maddie tries to explain but nobody really listens as Christi immediately tells Chloe “Well, now you know who your friends are.” This is kinda what ruined Maddie and Chloe’s friendship. A lot of people hated on Maddie for this without actually looking further into it, not just believing what the show displays. Besides, Melissa immediately told the other moms as soon as she knew. The whole thing is a misunderstanding to me and Abby’s fault completely.
Here is my views on ur points: Kenzie was NEVER meant to be on the show, is why she’s not seen in dance clothes alot, Melissa signed the same contract Christi did for Clara: to travel but she ended up on the show They knew they couldn’t leave: Maddie and Kenzie went to Melissa and said they wanted to leave and she said yes the legal way: which is how they did Mackenzie did dancin’ barefoot and little angel - which she won the second not sure bout the first, it wasn’t shown as it was for Abby’s mum and they wanted real life death to be to big a subject for Kenzie: e.g beautiful day: broadway baby The were never villains: I was a teen when the show started: I saw Abby like my ex dance teacher just to a bigger scale: highly abusive to all mothers and of course more importantly their CHILDREN everyone: I see fear in Gianna’s eyes at times like when she threw the chair: she looked like she was about to cry and she works for her, they were always victims I NEVER EVER EVER overlooked their abuse (as a victim myself: I can pin point certain things they went through): the biggest one that bothers me is Abby kissing Maddie: Considering unless your a baby and a relative it’s supper weird and she was 11 at the time and the fact that we see her trying to stand up to her pushing her away: she didn’t want it: she has sexual abuse which all the other girls have different types, all the same and Maddie has that abuse on top of everyone else. Your right about Kenzie keeping up my dream duo would have been Brooke and Kenzie but not til they were as good as each other S5. I don’t think Maddie was lying: their is a clear photo of Brooke in her purple reign costume, Maddie and Kalani and Paige and Chloe in their costumes before they danced: Chloe was old enough to realise she was their and dressed and her partner was their: She gave the answer she knew at the time, but Melissa said to Christi that her and Kelly would be fuming at her later that day but coz they went straight their they had they’re costumes and also Abby had entered two sapphires: you couldn’t do it on the day: they found out last, she’s practically breaking down begging because what they accused her off back in the dressing room and even though Melissa lied: she knew it was going on but she did not want it judged and knew Paige and Chloe would win and they would have had it not gone on stage. I don’t care that they didn’t attend the reunion: everyone went through different things: it was who went through the worst and the longest that got invites, if the whole cast was their they would need more time by a mile: it was was who went through the absolute worst time, either in a short amount of time or a little over the amount of years or who they’re was that much drama surrounding: we all have the choices in life for a reason - to use it. I will say they bought the cast of whenever Nia went through racism via Abby: She had every right not to want to go considering it was Abby doing it and the crew paying the cast of. About anatomy: word it differently: they USED to share the same shape nose: she got a nose job, differently worded. Technically yes Maddie missed that 5 and a half years: it wasn’t 6 since she was only their the first half the season but Maddie and Kenz left and technically ur a child legally everywhere till u turn 18: She decided to leave a show that was work just for another working environment. It was in the contracts about skating: Maddie knew that and she knew Abby would be mad: it’s dangerous for dancers: I wasn’t under a contract or on a team but I refused to ice skate as I know for dancers it’s dangerous: when we danced outside the ice rink near Xmas in 2010 we all got free tickets all who danced I was the only one who said no, your body is ur instrument: look at Paige she broke her foot doing something that was in several of her dances just not mastered only from standing: her back summe: Maddie knew all this Each studio has a fav and a one by EACH teacher, e.g I was Donna, Hazel and Suzanne’s fav but then I became Cara’s at 10 and when she took over Suzanne’s job a year later for tap and jazz: I could still get her arrested, I could have got her fired and in jail as I was her version of Maddie (not as dedicated or as good as everyone YET, I never use that thing of like Maddie but it’s the only person I can use that was the favourite and from the outside looking in we think they loved it but as it bypasses to creepy and abusive we don’t enjoy it and want them out of our life), whereas Julie abused me in a different way a very different way and I wished I had got her fired, to this day I could still get the place closed down because of those two, whilst at another dance school the three classes I was in the ballet teachers fav was Ellie: a replica of how Maddie’s work ethic was a couple of years prior: as she is loved by the ballet teacher being her goddaughter and her work ethic stayed dancing and is now a professional ballet dancer: so for her hard work ethic.(like a lot at that studio becoming professional dancers or dance teachers), the tap teachers fav was Chloe the best in the class, Hannah just to so sweet, funny and so nice and William the funniest and the modern teachers favourite was Rachel I can’t pinpoint one trait of hers that was just too good as she was one of the popular personalities at that studio and at my third it was me again just on work ethic and talent and I’m excited to go back to dance soon and well the cycle will repeat and their will be more favs. The fact that anyone who watches the scene where Ke sue corrects Abby: for about 10 mins knowing how sensitive Kenzie is she would have been upset as viewers were looking in and thinking Abby is acting like an even BIGGER ass than usual as Kenzie is right and Abby is wrong and Kenzie knows it well as the producers asked her too say it and like the bee dance she is the one after vivi who made it infamous: we look back on S1 the only infamous solo from season 1 is Cry, it’s Kenzie who made it infamous as a dig to vivi: especially as we as viewers watched in and hear Cathy saying in season 1 about that their really wasn’t that much difference: Kenzie was a mini Brooke and Vivi more Nia: recreational not until the future for Vivi wanted to be good but she was dancing in groups and keeping up with girls up to SEVEN years older when PAYTON was their and SIX with BROOKE their from half way through season two As for her win: it won’t be liked my point: It was the style jazz/acro vs. Tap: We see Maddie practice she couldn’t do it full out as she had to use a tap board because of the flooring their: where anywhere else had either been in Pittsburgh, got permission from wherever they were rehearsing or in LA but obviously COULD NOT GET THE PERMISSION to tap their meaning the only time she did it full out was the stage and then theirs the costume: it’s UGLY and made worse by Abby taking her weave out and putting it in Maddie’s head, It was set up that time for Kenzie to win when she was in a basic costume: bejewelled swim suit but hard dance that she could practice full out, if they had been up against each other S6 and if they were they’re S7: Kenzie would have been hard competition for Maddie but in styles their as great as each other in: tap, Kenzie was getting good at lyrical solos that were never seen, she never had a contemporary solo but she was great at contemporary: So take just acro out as she was way more advanced with that than Maddie: competing the same style or something that the other is NOT head over heels above like acro for Kenzie: plus in S4 she did cry, had Maddie not been dancing she would have won with lyrical: shows she was gr8 at it In closing: don’t believe reality tv, as it’s reality but it’s NOT real like what we didn’t see: Paige was always compared not just to Maddie like EVERYONE but also BROOKE with the same comparison: not by Kelly or Melissa, only ABBY, when we are all our own person from personalities to what we are good-great at or bad: I mean there was never a comment on how Josh quit and I only watch reruns for the dance, I think of the rest of what it left them like from hating dancing with Kenzie, to abusive actions in Jojo’s case and suicidal in Kalani’s case She did to Maddie EXACTLY what she did to Brooke: abused her til it was too much, at first she wanted to do it but more just as she was young and missing doing it as it was all she did but like Brooke she was pushed to sing and Maddie prefers acting And She did EXACTLY what she did to Paige to Kenzie: as they were only ever recreational students: DOING IT FOR FUN: abusing them to the pointe that they DETEST dance, like Paige was pushed to modelling, Kenzie was pushed to sing (also to show she could do more than Brooke)

I want to mention that I definitely don’t think the Zieglers were villains at all and that they were victims, however I think the producers set them up to be the villains for the show even though they were victims of the abuse just like everyone else on that show. Yes, I really felt bad when Mackenzie forgot her Dancing Barefoot solo! it made me so sad since it was such a beautiful solo 😭 oh absolutely, it was literally disgusting of Abby to kiss an 11 year old. no excuses at all. Maddie was a child and Abby was an adult. that’s disgusting, creepy, and she was grooming Maddie. I want to say something special- you mentioned about how you were a victim of abuse yourself. I am genuinely so so sorry you had to go through that. NOBODY should have to go through something like that. I really hope you’re okay now! @@cakeyeditss I share your views, I think they probably portrayed Leslie and Payton as worse villains, also The moms portrayed Jackie and Sophia as evil for what they wanted from dance, also how Kira and Kalani entered the show: they didn’t realise what they were doing to a 13 yr old, Jess and Jojo from the start when they put in for the audience to hear about what Jojo said about replacing Chloe and they definitely painted Ashlee and Brynn as monsters for Brynn being good and even Ashlee saying it was like hanging with the cool girls: to me we love the main 7 and ignore what they are painted as, I’m not sure watching the knew team now we know what happened different studio and people OR not: from what the woman who did 19~27 from eating disorders, surgery and suicide thoughts: it’s the show that ruined their childhood, people say Abby before the show she was never in the studio, yes her behaviour is her fault in it but she wouldn’t have been in it without the show. As for me I have good times and bad times, what makes times better is doing something I enjoy x

I think Abby probably still had an unhealthy mindset before the show like “you always have to win”, but she was still fun and kind to the kids as we can see multiple times in season 1 and even in season 2. it was the show that made Abby so bad, and all the rest of the moms and the girls as well. Everything in it was toxic and just all around so bad for little girls’ mental health. i’m very glad to hear that doing things you like helps you! its great to have hobbies, they can be really just so healing sometimes! :)

Kenzie was better than Asia But in the duet they did it was choreographed so kenzie should do all the tricks and dancing as a background for Asia and Asia got to do a little dancing to match with kenz and be in center stage and do her over the top expressions. But kenzie has just as amazing expressions if you don't think so watch dance doctor. I'm glad Asia left
I agree! Just because Asia was more energetic doesn’t mean she was better. Kenzie was more flexible, her technique was better, and she could do more tricks.

In the scene where they call Christi, Kalani says something like “Melissa was always sneaky and a liar” and Christi responds with “you’re absolutely right, Kalani” and that’s when Christi goes into her rant about Melissa being a bad person. Yeah like Melissa on dance moms is known for liying but i think the duo was the one time she actually wasnt liying, it was kinda obvious cause when she's caught in a lie she behaves differently either starts crying or getting defensive and cursing randomly, she didnt act that way she seemed calm
@@raeinwriting2474 yeah exactly. she seemed panicked but in a genuine way, as if she was scared either the moms or Abby would be mad at her, like she didn’t know what to do. whereas when she’s lying, she typically tries to leave the situation or starts cussing. however this time it seemed more like she kept trying to talk things out to make Kelly and Christi understand and try to reason with her
@@ginax8307 it felt to me like it made sense personally. Maddie and Kalani went to the competition and preformed their duet there (which was confirmed real because theres videos and pictures of that competition), then they met the girls at the next actual competition they filmed at. they didn’t have time to stop, so they had to bring their costumes in their bags already. So Maddie told Chloe that they did it at the other competition, but they weren’t doing it there because her and Melissa genuinely thought they weren’t actually doing it there until Abby sprung it up and made them do it.
@@cakeyeditss you made me do some research! lol. Maddie and Kalani performed their duet on 11/22/2013 The Sheer competition (where Chloe + Paige competed theirs) was on 11/24/2013. So it was really close together; it could’ve made sense for Maddie and Kalani to have the costumes, assuming they flew directly to Bronx, NY after NUVO. They also could’ve went home directly after the competition in Pittsburg (11/22/23) and took a flight out the next morning, making it weird that they had costumes with them. All I know is that someone (Abby, Melissa, and most likely Kira) knew about the duet. Because I don’t feel Abby would thrust this upon Maddie (we’ve seen her prepare Maddie for multiple competitions in one day, taking extra privates, missing school for dance, etc.), there’s reasonable evidence that she knew about the duet. Sheer also has a 30 day competition registration deadline. I personally would’ve be surprised if this was waived for Abby-publicity. Overall, I feel the timing suggests that Maddie knew and if she didn’t, Melissa, Abby, and Kira did. And Abby was doing her audition convention on Saturday November 23, 2013. Not completely relevant, but is another anchor for a solid timeline. @@ginax8307 tysm!! i totally respect that you did your research and everything! thanks so much for the links and information! what i meant was not that Melissa and Maddie didn’t know, but rather they didn’t think it was going to happen. Melissa, especially, has a tendency to brush things off as she doesn’t believe they will actually happen. Abby had been hinting to it all week, so they both knew, I think they just both figured it wouldn’t actually happened, and if it would, it would be for the drama for the show. I don’t think Maddie or Melissa were malicious about it either (especially Maddie). There’s even a scene in that episode where Melissa tells Abby that Paige and Chloe are going to win so there’s no need to put the duet in, so they were definitely pushing against it. Only problem is that Melissa is a spineless people-pleaser who submits to people in charge really really fast, so I think she was genuinely too scared and didn’t want an argument so she let it go. Maddie just did whatever she was told by her teacher and her mom since she was a kid, so she couldn’t do much about it. And if she tried, she would’ve paid for it from Abby lol. Honestly I don’t blame anyone in this fight but Abby. It would’ve never happened if Abby never decided to do this. Abby knows Melissa has a hard time standing up for what’s right, so she knows she can take advantage of her, resulting in being able to manipulate Maddie as well.
