I think one of the main reasons we listen to sad music when we’re sad is because it matches our mood and we can relate to it, which makes us feel better in a way
This is the exact reason I can't listen to happy music when I'm sad. I get way too cynical and grouchy with it lol. Like "yeah good for you, you're in love we get it 😒" and then I get even more grumpy. So yeah sad music has to be my go to when I'm down, otherwise I'll just make myself feel worse.

Glad I'm not th only one who likes sad songs when I'm sad. People always say it's gonna make me more sad or I'm being dramatic or shit. You need to feel your emotions and process them. The music helps with that.
It also prevents good happy songs from being permanently tainted by my sad feelings. I made the mistake of listening to happy songs after a bad breakup, and now every time I hear those songs, I'm reminded of how I felt then. It completely ruined those songs for me

I listen to sad songs during my free period at school and people say it will just make me depressed 🙂 They were right. But it’s just something I do now it’s normal.🙂
I, too, like sad music when I'm sad, because it helps me move through my feelings and naturally transition to more positive emotions. Sometimes I go from sad, to more aggressive (to clear out any anger), to upbeat once I've let out heavier emotions. Other times I go from sad to hopeful/gentle to happy or playful. Occasionally the genre switches suddenly, but most of the time I organize my playlists to gradually move and complement my feelings at the moment.
In my case when I'm sad, I listen to melancholic music (for me, sunny day, my way, alone again naturally, etc.) They usually make me feel sad, but when I'm sad, they remind me of good times and they cheer me up.
My ultimate comfort song is “It’s Alright” by Mother Mother. Not a happy song, not really a sad song either, just a song saying that sometimes shit sucks and we fuck up and that it’s alright. Also “you’re not special babe” by Orla Gartland is surprisingly comforting.

That's why sometimes I'll put in my earbuds at night and cry myself to sleep. Depression, anxiety, mood swings, it all comes to pass when I listen to songs that speak of things that I deal with. I think of how I was in a psych hospital for 3 years, I recall memories of happier times, I think of the what ifs, and how that shaped me into the person I am today
I like that. I sometimes struggle to feel pretty much anything. When i get overwhelmed, i go numb, because it's just easier this way, i guess. Sad music allows me to just release all of that and just feel as strongly as i need for a while in a safe way

I thaught I was alone in doing this and thinking this way, because my family always say it‘s strange. They say I should listen to happy music when I‘m sad, so my mood gets up. But I listen to sad music, so I can work things out. Sometimes I‘m sad without me knowing why, these days are dark and unless I find the reason and think about it, I will not get better. The music helps to calm down and for thinking and like in the video sad, it makes me feel that I‘m not alone with my hardships.
Yeah, usually when I decided to talk about my feelings in the past, I usually got "You shouldn't feel like that". I heard that "shouldn't" enough times, I now tend to think all my feelings are wrong, whether positive or negative. Or more accurately, I don't know if my feelings are right or wrong. Having someone tell you "it's ok to have these feelings" I imagine is probably a great thing to experience, as it means you're not in the wrong for feeling sad (or happy). And that it's a part of you.

I’m am special needs and have been working through it. I was once led on by a popular kid. He called me ugly in front of the whole lunch table. Then he asked the school bully ( only a bully to me ) his thoughts. My heart got broken even more… I’m still not the same. I am still single and now I think that maybe they were right… Edit: I got a boyfriend who I thought liked me. He asked me to be his bf then ignored me for 6 days. I was tired of it and broke up. I think I remember hearing about a study that said that listening to music linked to certain feelings (like sadness, or anger and violence) made people have those feelings tuned down, i.e. feeling less sad or less angry. So yeah
