Saddlemen step up, Drag specialties predator 3 extended reach or stock, which is the best seat for a tall rider? www.denniskirk.com/drag-speci... www.denniskirk.com/saddlemen/...
Dude! Probably the most comprehensive review of these 3 seats, like, fuckin ever. That, and Probably the most comprehensive of anything currently on RU-vid. Well done, sir. Not just bikes or accessories. But anything in any category. And you didn't use foul language or bad mouthing. To do that in 2021 is amazing.
Thanks for the review, I absolutely love my fatboy but at 6 ft 1 with a 32 inch inseam I find it to cramped as well, I tend to do the same of sitting partially on the hump as well. That said I bought this bike for cruising back and forth to see my daughter in a different state.
Thank you for the great information. I'm 6'6", with 38" inseam, so we both know how hard it is to get anything to fit, bike's, shirt's, pants. You have a clean ride, that red looks great. Anything you can find for us tall guys, yell it out. My two son's both ride, and are 6'8"and 6'7". We laugh all the time about our wife's trying to get us anything to fit in shirt's and pants.
I definitely can share your pain and frustration, I Actually just bought my wife the equipment to start making me shirts because I can never find anything that fits. Thanks for checking out the video and check back because I will be reviewing more items for tall riders soon.
Thanks for the review for big and tall guys 😁 I'm looking at buying this seat and was doing research on RU-vid and came across yours. I have currently a mustang extended reach touring and I love it. But Im mostly like 99% of the time ride solo. So I was wanting a more custom looking seat like the perator 3 and a decent price. So since you said you're doing like 1500 miles a year, it will take me a year before I see your beak in period vidoe 😁 so I guess I will take a chance and pull the trigger and buy one. 😎👍
I'm 78" tall with a 35" inseam and in doing my exhaustive research, came across your comparison. Very well done! Problem: I had spinal fusion of 4 vertebrae and must have a seat with a backrest. The RoadSofa and Dominator will provide for both. I would love to find out the differences of both!
Excellent review brother!!! I’m 5’6” so this didn’t apply to me, but you did such a great job and doing the review I simply enjoyed watching and listening! Haha
My stock seat makes my pants bunch up . I'm always pushing my pants down at every stop light. I was going to ask the individuals who ride often if a special type of pants were recommended for riding a bike . I'm also a big man 6'4"280 pounds .
@@petedetects7012 I went with the drag specialty reach seat. The same one in the video. I love it. Alot better then stock. Sat me more down and back into the bike and it is comfortable to me.
@@petedetects7012 no special pants. I wear 46/36 PANTS. WITH THE drag seat I feel like I can keep my legs closer together on the tank. If you get what I'm saying.
Excellent video review my brother! What bars do you have Chubbs?? I use to have a 2011 street glide had to sell it. Because felt like I had no Damn space I’m 6’4” Ha but I damn sure want to get a road glide special, This year just Subscribed to your channel. Keep on making videos ride safe
Thanks for checking out the channel and welcome, the bars are Factory 47 14in bars. I like street glide but the fairing is way to close for us tall riders.
You know what, after a year of riding on that seat, I agree with you a 100%. I'm actually looking at doing a review on the saddleman extended reach dominator solo seat and the saddleman extended reach road sofa as this year I'm wanting to log some serious miles I need a seat that's going to allow me to do that. Thanks for checking out the video, and thank you for your support of my channel.
Well this seat will definitely move you back and give you all the leg room you want, unfortunately after several 300 to 400 mile rides I've realized that the seat needs more cushion. but riding around in town it's perfect and it looks amazing.
Good video. Im looking at the Predator 3 seat and the Saddleman Step Up. Can you tell me your thoughts on the comfort of the Predator seat since you installed and if you still have that seat on your bike.
Plenty of options Saddlemen extended reach step up Lapera daddy long legs etc Either way a road glide is a more upfront bike its never going to get your legs stretched out like a dyna street bob or alike will Thats what the highway pegs are for
OK, i somewhat agree and disagree at the same time. a road glide is more spacious than a street Bob or Dyna ever could be because the wheelbase is longer. The bike is bigger, and when you're 6 foot 5, a dyna is a toy. Now, with the extended reach floorboards, pedals, and extended reach seat, you'll fit perfectly. At least I do. Now, the part of your statement I agree with Is that there are a lot of seats out there, at The time of this video these were the seats I had on hand, Currently I have The road sofa extended reach Seat and love it.
@@bigshow65 thanks for the feedback Im 6 ft 2 and unsure wether i should get a lapera extended reach seat or a lucky daves normal reach seat Im thinking ill install highway pegs first and see what the stretch is like and go from there
Like you im 6-5 and I’ve been rocking HD Tall boy seat for quite a while, probably because i didn’t know any better. The seat is not bad, and it does pushes me back a bit but i still would like to sit back about 2 more inches. Also i feel it seats me too low in the saddle. I’m getting ready to order the Saddlemen road sofa extended reach. 👍 good video.
I really need to make an update video because I replaced my seat with a road sofa extended reach, now I really don't like the way. It looks on the bike if I take my tour pack off but with the tour pack on. It looks really good, but let's face it. Looking good and comfort rarely share the same platform. But it does sit me in a comfortable position.
@@bigshow65 okay 👍 good to know. I do like the Le Pera Kick-Flip Daddy Long legs basket weave seat. It’s supposed to sit “us” big guys up 2 “ and back 2”. You would think HD would give us all these items free for what we have to pay just to make the bike fit us! Ride safe fellow big brother! Update: I finally got around to getting another seat. I went with the Lepera kick flip daddy long legs basket weave style. It’s a good looking seat and blends perfectly with my bike. It does sit you up taller ( which i like) wa bit more leg room than my tall boy seat. The only thing is that’s it’s narrow and not much for two-up riding. So if my wife ever rides with me, I’ll need to swap to a saddlemen road sofa extended reach.✅👍 Big guys unite!
Thank you, I am going to be reviewing the saddlemen extended sofa and the saddlemen extended reach dominator solo seat, hope you stay tuned for that one.
I had the same issue. I did same thing as you. Did the floorboards, shifter and brake. I just recently put a Saddleman Road Sofa LS Extended Reach. Night and day difference. I’m 6’4” with 34 inseam. The Road Sofa honestly almost sets me back to much. However the more I road it, I loved it! I highly recommend the Road Sofa extended reach. The saddleman states will set you back 2”. I think it might even be 1/4” more than that.
@@bigshow65 you being taller might just be perfect. It felt like I almost was “relearning” how to ride again with sitting back so far. My legs and feet wasn’t used to all that room. My dealership even let me try it before you buy it. I’d give it a shot especially if they will try before you buy.
@@bigshow65 I’m sure you’ve run across changing the seat out and you now have your tank exposed where it wasn’t before? The scratches that show on tank now? I haven’t tried to do anything to that yet. Does that buff out?
Fantastic review. I have been looking for some info for us bigger guys. Being down here in Perth 🇦🇺 we are fairly limited with options, and have to buy based on reviews and online information. I have selected a Saddlemen Road Sofa Extended Reach, at 6’6 and 270 I feel your pain at sitting on the tank. Ride safe mate ✌🏻
I've put around 500 miles on the draft specialties extended reach predator sear now and can say its not perfect but is getting more comfortable with every ride. Ride safe!
I'm also a tall guy and have been riding the stock seat for a couple of years on my 19 Roadking Special - (un)blissfully unaware that there were tall guy options. I live in New Zealand and options are very limited indeed and I seem to be pretty much limited to Saddlemen or LePera. I'm wondering if you've tried any of the daddy long legs range from LePera? I'm leaning towards one of those currently, but at ~$1000, it's not a decision I want to make lightly
I agree! They are very expensive seats. I do not have any experience with lepera daddy long legs but saddlemen has an extended reach solo seat (that you can add a passenger seat) called the dominator and also the road sofa extended reach. Both are very comfortable. I really need to get an update review on those done. I personally am interested in buying both, one for when I ride solo the other for long rides.
Was that the saddlemen extended reach model? It looked like the regular step up. I’m 6’9 on a 2018 road glide. I got the heated model of the saddlemen road sofa extended reach. Sits me way back, and has a good comfortable passenger seat. It does take a little time to break it in, but I believe that’ll prove to be a good thing, in the long run.
@@bigshow65 but no worse than the tripper? I find myself sitting an inch off the back of the tripper. Where did you buy your Pred? Ive messages SS Cycles but haven't got a reply back
It has held up great, yes I would recommend it but only as an around town seat as it is not as comfortable on longer rides. I picked up the saddleman roadsofa extended reach seat for those long rides and ended up keeping it on my bike permanently.
I got the Saddleman Extended Reach and it barely moved me back at all. It was also extremely stiff. My wife hated the passenger seat too. I assume the Predator was not going to be comfortable for my wife either so this won’t work. The Daddy Long Legs was ok (better than Saddleman) but still not comfortable on long trips. I’m still on search for a better seat myself. I’ve been looking at the BadBoyz Freedom Extended Seat. I’ve read good things about it. I’ve chatted with the owner and seems like good people too.
Well, that's pretty discouraging to hear because I am looking into the saddleman road sofa extended reach. I was kind of hoping it would take care of the leg room as well As the comfort level on long rides.
I agree. I am working on a review of the dominator extended reach as well as the road sofa extended reach. Thank you for watching my videos. And if there are other things you'd like to see me review drop me a message anytime and I'll see what I can do.
Is there any chance you have the links close at hand for the extended shift lever and larger extended floor boards I'm 6'9" and am in the process of buying a 20 road glide limited thanks for your time!
I’m really sorry, I just seen this comment. I will link the extended shift lever. As for the extended floor boards I got those straight from Harley Davidsons website. www.amazon.com/dp/B000GVA198/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_Y8YNK0TQQ32T88FZWCZC?linkCode=ml2&tag=bigsho6503-20
I have been told since posting this video that saddlemen has an extended reach seat.. I am going to be looking into this and will be doing a review on it if so.
@@bigshow65 I buddy, nice video. I am also in search of a seat. Now from my research the saddelman Pro SDC with the back rest on the web site is from the front of the seat to the bottom of the back rest is 16'' wich is the same as there extended reach model and the regular one like yours is suppose to be 15". Now the predator 3 extended says they have 17 inch from front to bottom of back rest. Would be nice if you can mesure yours and let us realy know.
Hello buddy. I purchased my first Big bike. 2016 HD Road Glide ultra. The bike is is almost perfect. I'm 6'4 280 pounds with a 34" inseam. Unfortunately I can't purchase a variety of seats. They are very expensive. I also need my wife to be as comfortable as possible. Can you recommend a seat that would work the best for both of us and also what size ape hangers would you recommend. My bike is vivid black. Thank you for sharing your experience. Pete .
First let me say awesome bike!! Road glides are awesome!! As for the seat I would look into the road sofa extended reach from saddleman, I'm going to be doing a review on that seat soon and for handlebars I have 14" factory 47 bars on my bike and it fits me perfect, And I did not have to get an extended brake line or an extended clutch line, the stock lines worked with no issues. I am 6' 5" and about 350 pounds with a 34' inseam And have really put a lot of time and thought into making this bike as comfortable for my size as possible. Hey man thanks for checking out the video, I hope this helped you in some way.
Hi there bud. Its been awhile now and I'm curious to know how the Predator 111 work out for you. Also I have the ultra with touring pack . Can the Predator 3 work with the touring back rest . Thanks for sharing. Pete 6'4 285
It's a good seat for around town, but not long trips. I can put about an hour of non-stop riding before I absolutely have to get off it, but in town, it's great. It moved me back and gave me all the room I needed. I run a chopped tour pack with a matching Dimond stitch pattern, and they look great together. I am going to be reviewing the saddlemen extended reach road sofa here pretty soon.
@@bigshow65 wow , nothing worse than an uncomfortable ride . I needed to hear that .I was just about to pull the trigger. Thanks for quickly responding. Big Mex
Great video. I just bought my first Harley Street Glide, with the stock seat. The original owner was about 145lbs and about 5'6". I am 6' and weigh about 260. The stock seat has me sitting on the tank, feels like my crotch is wedged up on the tank. Would the drag specialty work good for me? I feel like I need to be slid back. Thanks!
Yes the drag specialties predator 3 extended seat will move you back and give you more leg room. But how ever it's only comfortable for a day of riding not any long distance riding.
@@bigshow65 hi Big , a spoke with a sales person at DS regarding the predator 111 seat . I also explained the purpose for the seat, being 6'4" 280 . He said the seat was designed for shorter people. It lowers the rider on the bike . He didn't recommend the seat . Was he incorrect. Thanks for your suggestion. Pete
@@petedetects7012 that really depends on the type of riding you are planning on doing, the predator 3 extended reach seat moves you back about 2 inches so I highly doubt it was made for a shorter person but the predator 3 standard seat would be easier for a shorter person because it sits you down about 1 inch in the seat.(they both sit you down an inch) Now if you are tall like me youll have plenty of leg room. But this seat is not ideal for long rides, an hour or less. I rode 2 hours non stop on this seat and it didn't feel to good. I am looking into the saddleman road sofa and as soon as I get some time on it I'll have a review of that seat as well. Thanks for the questions and the channel support.
@@bigshow65 sounds good let me know how the saddle man's works out for you . I really can't say if I'm riding long distances at this moment but one things for sure it may happen. Thanks for writing back. Pete
I'm sorry, I have no idea what seats are available for the Honda goldwing but hopefully you can find one. maybe try emailing them to see if they have one for your you're making model.
Just normal. At the time of this video I was having a hard time finding a company that was still working because of covid so the selection of seats were slim.. I actually had to wait 3 weeks before I could order any seat.
Honestly at 6 foot one you’re stuck right in the middle you could probably go either way I’m 6 foot 5 and the extended reach gives me more room than I need. It may be a little too much for you, but I’m not real sure, you can always get one and try it out. If you don’t like it, send it back and then get the other one.
5k in 3 years? Hell I put 11k in a year lol. I'm 5'11 2019 Road Glide Special with LA choppers 14in tbars with the saddleman step up. But I do want the saddleman that puts me back 2in
@@bigshow65 I dig it brother my 3 are grown now youngest is 19... but I also ride year round. I still have my 2k Yamaha R1 with 55k on it lol now it is just a giant paper weight dust collector my blood is that bike I can't bring myselfto part with it. I like your vlogs tho bro keep going
Well honstly for a couple reasons, there isn't one anywhere around here (within a reasonable drive) and the stock seat is very cheaply made and I didn't want to put money into it. I'd rather start with a better quality seat and make adjustments to it..
Oh, I completely agree with that. I'm going to be making a follow-up video that, as recently as last riding season, i switched to a different seat, and I'm going to do a side By side comparison and I'm going to cover the fact that the drag specialty seat is amazing for in town riding bit the minute, you try to put a four to five hour ride on it You're gonna be in pain. But thanks for checking out the video, and thanks for your comment...
Lol yeah being 6'5" and 350 kinda makes everything look small. But I have made many upgrades to give me as much room as possible. Thanks for checking out the video.
@@bigshow65 I was on saddlemens website after watching. They do have the step up in an extended reach. I’ll have to agree on the road sofa. Got that now on my bike and it’s not the best looking. I will admit though, now I’m looking at the drag specialties seat. How’s it on width when riding? Feel like your running out of space on it?
@@Redbeardedbiker91 the drag specialties seat has a ton of room. I have never felt crowded on this seat. But I also extended my floorboards and my shift lever and break lever, so I have even more room.
I've looked into the saddleman road sofa extended seat but I really don't like the way it looks, but I am actually getting ready to do a review on the saddlemen 2" extended reach dominator solo seat.
