Belief is hope to some extent (I agree). A belief system is important for 90% of humans in today's world. But remember, the rest, who can understand and seek their hope from their own thoughts and experiences, are much more powerful. Eventually, everything will change within 100 years, where people will rely on rational thinking and science for hope-if there is no WW3.

Why Hindus have many gods. Example: When you need any new connection (water, electricity) or birth certificate ..people go to nearby council and request for service. You need not go to Prime minister or president or queen. Even after many permissions if reach PM or president, his answer will be goto nearby authorities. Similarly, in Bhagvad gita it is mentioned that, God has arranged many demigods for your service. Pray for them, if you want your wish to be fulfilled.
Oldest religion by far on this damn planet is "Aasevagam" (including Saivam, Vainavam, Samanam) which is part of Tamil culture way back 8000 BC. Tamil Gods Sivan, Vishnu, Murugan, Amman etc., worshipped from kanyakumari till kashmir. Tamil's one of the oldest literature when written, there was no other civilization existed. So, people migrated, faced wars, indulged in trade etc., new civilizations arose. Now, some silly fights. Tamil values are unmatchable. "All world people are our relatives" is one of the golden proverb. People please mature to love humanity first. Mother, Father, Teacher, Ancestors, fellow humans, mother nature comes first. So called God comes later that too not that important to go nuts in public about it.

I have read scriptures of Hinduism, Islam and Christianity as well and I can say one thing for sure. The knowledge that comes from scriptures doesn't satisfy us. Something is always missing inside. It's like you are thirsty and you get the road map of the river but still you didn't get the water. Scriptures are just like road maps. A real journey starts after knowing the basic things and this is why personal experience and realization matters.
