It is interesting to note that it was the Nihang Sikhs who started the fight for Ram temple after it was razed to ground by Babur. There are some villages around Ayodhya where people don’t wear slippers and turban (a symbol of honor). Reason ?? When the temple was razed in 1500s, the people in the surrounding villages mourned the event and as they were unable to protect the temple of their beloved Ram, they took their inability to save it as a punishment for themselves. If they could not save the honor of Ram temple, they should have no honor until the glory of Ram temple is restored. This is in news in India, for after 500 years, these people will break the 500 year old tradition of not wearing slippers and turbans. For they have fulfilled their promise to Ram.

*Context*: During Islamic Conquest of India major Hindu temples were demolished and raised to ground. After demolishing, conquerors built mosques in the same place using the temple remains. This has been done to thousands of temples in Northern India where there was no major Hindu Temple for past 800 years. Now, in 21st Century Hindus wants to reclaim their temple land and rebuild those temples. This has become a highly politicised issue and one more cause of enimosity between Hindu and Muslim community of India. Hindus just want to reclaim their most sacred 3 temples now. One at Ayodhya , the place where Ram was born has been reclaimed after 500 years of movement and struggle. Other two are: Shiva Temple in Kashi and Krishna temple in Mathura where Krishna was born. Both places has mosques built over them. So, Two communities are battling the case out in Courts. Kashi and Mathura temple are remaining, reclaiming those according to Hindus are must in order to reclaim their lost civilizational heritage and culture.
The Muslims are not really very opposed to this. Their political leaders are being pushed to take that role by communists. The real fight has been between communist and Hindu beleivers

Divisiveness mentioned by the reporter was regarding the Muslim Hindu fight that is going on since 500 years ago concerning the Ram Mandir. Before the Mughals invaded India there was a Ram temple in the present area in question. Babur demolished that temple and established a mosque which went by the name Babri Masjid. After all those years the supreme court passed the judgement in favour of Ram Mandir being re-established in that specific zone where the mosque stood, thus ending a 500 year long civil war.

Roger is right but not entirely about the muslims not liking the idea of god depicted in human form. Yes they have a problem with ram because the idea of a god in a human form is absolutely not allowed in Islam But they also would have a problem if it was Shiva, who is not in human form. But still it's god depicted in a form. And God/Allah is not allowed to be drawn But then they would also be having a problem with Brahman, a formless consciousness that is god. Because the name is Brahman and gods name can only be Allah and nobody else. But then they would also have a problem with Hindus calling god Allah because Allah should be only the god of muslims and is not a hindu god. So there is not really a middle ground which found to be accepted
