I am in Australia and cannot fathom how the Big Lick is allowed to be humanely allowed to happen by your governments and Animal Humane Societies. As Ghandi quotes "a measure of a countries people is in the way they treat their animals". For this reason alone it is a shame upon the people that are still continuing this oborent animal cruelty. 😭😭😭
What a gem hay farmer Rick is. He seems to genuinely care for the horses and the rescue with his hay experiments. Love this. He sounds really proud of his hay, deservedly so.
To think he did all that work for two weeks worth of hay shows he truly cares. Farmers work hard, he's gone out of his way to do something nice. I love it. Every bit helps.
That is the most horrific thing I have seen people do to animals & call it beautiful!! What breed of horses do they use? Are they Tennessee walkers? All the people that say Rodeo is abusive to horses…. where are they when this is going on?? Those poor horse bodies have to be so out of alignment from the way that they walk because of the pain😡😡. Thanks for all you do!!!
How could anyone dump a friend at an auction knowing she's dying of cancer? Knowing how much more fearful those last few months will be? Bless y'all for doing what's right and stepping up.
When you take on an animal you are taking on all the good and the bad, until that animal dies. If you cannot then you find them another loving home. People who just dump sick animals like that should have a special place in hell for what they've done.
@@AccidentallyOnPurpose Sadly, the law is the big problem here, they've said at times that some auctions they go to are in states that have NO laws stopping what horses can go to auction or be sold. Plus, if people had to register to own horses and eventually for more than a certain number of equine, it could stop people dumping or killing horses themselves as well.
@@Reptile_Gecko I have to disagree. My place is known as the place that ugly, skinny, injured pieces of horseflesh are turned into gorgeous, thriving, and happy animals. I've only got six, currently, and all but two are rescues that I've saved on my own. People find it hard to believe that they were once as skinny and beat up as any of the ones in this episode. I've even got a foundered mini that is romping in the pastures, thanks to my relentlessly watching RU-vid videos on trimming founder cases. Yes, I do all the trimming, too, and I'm no spring chicken, but they are what I live for. I'd be so ashamed if I let a horse get into the condition that I found them in, and would prefer death, to be honest. I will NEVER register to own a horse. Screw the government that's already wanting to over-regulate everything. That sort of governance has no place in a free society and is only worthy of contempt. I'm too old to embrace slavery and have had too many relatives die serving this nation to let it go in that disgusting direction. This is a cultural problem, and one that a control freak government can only use to cement its power over the citizenry. Change starts in the hearts of man, not in the laws of the power-hungry. There, you will only find abject desolation and a world in which neither man nor horse would want to live. Also, there is nothing wrong with "killing" a horse by a non-vet, so long as the person doing the deed researches the proper way of doing it. A bullet placed in the center of the "X" made between the ears and the eyes ensures a quick and painless death. Vets have told me that there are some horses that don't get sedated well enough and feel the heart shot and that it is very painful to the horse, and in some places, it's illegal to bury a horse that's been euthanized in such a way as it poisons the ground as the horse decays. A horse that's been put down with a bullet can be donated to big cat sanctuaries to feed the cats, and so the circle of life continues. Also, in the states where it's considered illegal for a layman to put a horse down, the vets charge outrageous prices to euthanize as a result, knowing that the owners have no alternative. Those owners sell their elderly and infirm horses to kill buyers, causing even more suffering. Always think of the ramifications of the laws being passed, as most of them cause more anguish and heartache than they prevent.
I hope you document everything and everybody who supports the criminal abuse. Any officer of the law protecting these abusers should be shown, a name and office listed and let people begin a calling campaign to those departments who refuse to honor laws to protect those that don't have a voice.
With the decline of farming and food in general, I fear it will get worse and worse. People let them starve a slow death as unable To Feed them. Makes me angry.
I’m watching here in the UK and I can honestly say the big lick practice is mind boggling. We would never endorse it let alone show a horse off when the welfare is so compromised. Very sad state of affairs
I’m from Australia, I have never ever seen such an abusive practice that is The Big Lick and SaddleSeat, both disgusting and heavens knows how in gods name it is allowed. Shame on those in government in the USA that allow it to continue..horrific.
But theres Steeple Chasing in the UK,which can kill a horse or rider with one false step. The so called “sport” is so cruel that it has already been banned in New South Wales. Now that South Australia has announced and end to the industry there, Victoria is the only state continuing to subject horses to this horror. Steeplechasing is still primarily conducted in Ireland (where it originated), the United Kingdom, Canada, United States, Australia, and France.
BRAVO TO HORSE PLUS HUMANE SOCIETY!!👏👏👏 BLESS YOUR HEARTS for speaking up on behalf of our defenseless equines who are forced to suffer in the wrong, ignorant hands. Keep up the Great Work!!💙
It really opens your eyes to see 23 huge round bales of hay, and then be told it will last a week and a half. I use to have a small herd of dairy goats, and as silly as it sounds, I always felt rich when I had a barn full of hay, and my grain barrels were full. I’m old now and I like to joke that when I was young it would never have occurred to me that some day my wish list would consist of a semi load of peanut hay and a new pitch fork. But it was very true. Being able to take of those little critters meant the world.
his testicles are definitely extremely swollen and stallions testicles should never look like that, they are wayy to big, i’ve never seen a horse that has nothing wrong with have that big of testicles
ALL the Big Lick stallions I've seen have the same issue. I think it's edema from walking so far back on their hind legs. Normally horses carry like 70% of their body weight on their front legs, and obviously they can't do that. I've been around a LOT of stallions and the BL horses are the only ones I've seen with this issue. It must be so painful.
I am in Tasmania island state of Australia. I congratulate you activists on bringing out & highlighting this disgusting practise of high steps in horses. May the Rule of Karma get you perpetrators.
Thank you for standing up to law enforcement when they behave improperly. I am looking forward to learning what transpires after you file your complaint. Lots of what you do brings you face to face with some very ugly sides of humans mistreating animals. I applaud your courage and your doggedness to do right.
It starts when over 80% of this video is filming humans not the horses. This level of arrogance in man is the problem. Why film animal rescue? is it for the rescued or the rescuers?
@@karenharrison885 You show everything. It is a big problem with people getting into keeping animals that thing it's all with the animals and loving on them and getting them, not what goes into the property, the people, the feed, the medications and more! Not to mention you need to give new rescues space and not shove a camera in their face every few minutes or hours, so instead they fill up time with other aspects of animal rescue.. or really at times animal keeping in general. Not to mention your comment had no connection to people abusing these animals, you're just bashing a rescue for existing and educating people on rescue life. 🤣
I wonder if you can find someone with a trained gaited Tennessee Walker that would enter their horse and exercise it prominently outside so people can SEE the difference, can SEE how the hind quarters are unnaturally bounced under them and the patterns are so compromised that the fetlocks can actually touch the ground. I commented in an old video of big lick horse's that I would like to see the judges wearing platform shoes with. 6 inch heels run a circuit of the arena at a run, I would love to see that and I'm sure the horses would get a kick out of it 😂
Oh can we cut the tendons in those human's backsides too? HPHS did show, maybe last year? that the Big Lick has what they call flat-shod categories where the totally natural TWH gait is shown and judged. That's what really makes even less sense... that the Big Lick ppl themselves put natural gait horses in the show right there for all to recognize the difference and to see just how false and stupid the exaggerated trot of torture really looks. Crazy. All in one show. Not sure what the owners and riders of that class think...why they would show off their beauties in an arena that supported such torture. I would be curious if any owners show both flat-shod horses and ones in stacks.
Vote yes on the Horse "SAFE ACT" Bill in Congress today....Call your Rep....it will end US horses going to slaughter and shut down the auctions.........
I’m in the U.K. and didn’t know about the the cruelty they do to their horses to make them high step like that. It’s disgusting they should be done for cruelty. Just don’t understand how they get away with it. Wish this old lady could have joined you. God bless you all for what you do for the rescue animals ❤❤
Yes Susan- big lickers hurt the horses and as the animals are forced to throw their weight onto their back legs for balance, they have to deal with riders, too many of whom are overweight. What sort of people would do this???
Bravo!! These big lick horses carry almost all their weight on 2 legs. 1 leg at a trot plus the rider. When in their stall they lie down a lot more than normal because they hurt so much. They train & ride horses that aren't fully developed. Their joints and feet have no time to develop properly. Not to mention battery acid on their fetlocks Keep up your amazing work!!
Bless Mr. Rick for loving the horses.. his hard work assures that these horses, some of which haven’t been able to count on full bellies, we’ll be well fed ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Dr. Nancy is getting better and better at being on camera and explaining things and I think she's just getting into her groove can Tell she's a good vet and that she cares and that she really really really loves animals that's just awesome and you are so appreciated
Yes she has come a long way and so has the editing crew. Glad to see the progress it means we see and learn new and different things from them all the time! I mean u could tell of her vet know-how but her comfort level with being recorded is what has really grown!
If you for answering my and I agree with you and I'm just really happy to see how good they're doing I think it's such a good thing that they're doing this beautiful I cry sometimes so badly because I love horses and what they do is just miracles with what they do have they are true heroes
I would like to see more of the horses that have been there for 30 days or 60 days and see how much more beautiful they look now after food and loving care. Thank you for all of your efforts. You can be proud.
God Bless you all for standing up for the beautiful Tennessee Walker horses. I own a TW and he is the kindest soul. Thank God he was never a big lick horse! Everyone of those poor big lickers look LAME!! No wonder they break down so young. 😢
You guys always have the cutest kittens they’re some real different looking they’re just real cute Dr. Nancy is great and so compassionate. I love her.❤
Awesome undercover at the Big Lick!!! Keep it up!!! I’m also thankful for the horses that you saved that didn’t go to slaughter. I know you gave the last act of kindness to a couple. It’s never easy but you honor these precious souls when they need help the most. I’m a proud supporter. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I keep hearing the word: "DONKEY" what the heck!?!?! All I see are long ears bobbing here, bobbing there. Bobbing this way, Bobbing that way... 💕🤷🏼♀️💕 CUTIE PIES!!! The Horse Plus staff are the perfect example to the words, "Angels on Earth" All these wonderful, majestic, proud, BEAUTIFUL horses are treated with love, gentleness, compassion, kindness, uppermost respect. THANK YOU!!! BLESS YOU!!!! 💕🐎💕🐎💕🐎💕
Sometimes your videos make me cry,for the fact that someone could treat these beautiful innocent creatures so badly that they need to be given the last act of kindness. It so breaks my heart into tears.
I had no idea! I’ve been told that they “naturally walk that way”. I’m not involved with horses and never have been and this was an eye opening experience for me. I watched the whole video and shared it with my daughter who has had riding lessons and loves horses. I will be donating. Thank you for everything you do for these gorgeous animals!!!
Friesian horses do walk naturally in a beautiful way for example, there is no need for special shoes. If you want to know if they really walk like that, look for babies horses of the same breed, and see how they walk. I'm bad at English but I tried to explain xd.
@@maryh1421They probably didn’t want to risk the horse being seen by anyone since it is a ex big lick horse, they didn’t take it out of the trailer either.
I don’t agree with what’s going on with the big lick 👅 but I ❤️ watching what you’re doing trying to make people aware that this is still going on,and has to be STOPPED…😊
Scary thought is that a horse riddled with melanoma was about to be sent for slaughter and possible entry into human consumption. Thank goodness for people like you. No horse sick or otherwise should be shipped for slaughter
Sadly Canadian Agricultural allows that during entry and 3% of the many horses end up on someone's plate in the EU. Over 900k tons returns to North Dakota for processing something. Just disgusting
@@pjk1714In Europe I think only Italy mass slaughters horses, that's where the meat buyers try to take them to from my country. Fortunately we made horse meat illegal, even hypoallergenic dog food containing horse meat is tightly regulated (not to mention the stares you get when looking for it). I'm against mass animal production, we can satisfy our need for animal products without cruelty if we just change our consumption patterns but especially horse meat market is marred with cruelty just due to the whole auction/transport alone. Not to mention that horses, being companion animals, don't have the same character as livestock animals which were bred to be docile and used to the whole shtick of farm life for centuries which makes it much more terrifying for them. I think that's a good enough reason to push laws against it. We're trying to push for EU wide legislation and again, mostly Italy (but also France where horse meat is unfortunately still eaten) are very much against. We're not out of the woods yet...
As we all know mankind can be very cruel to animals …… it just makes me I’ll. Some people deserve a taste of back street Justice for the way they treat animals !!!
This Animals crulity needs to end ! Thank you for standing strong brave for rescuing these magnificent Remarkable Animals They are Magnificent ! Lets end this Crulity.
Yeah? Your god sure has let these gorgeous animals down though. Is that so “he” can “bless” the rescue with things to do? Let’s be real…humans have neglected & tortured these animals and better humans have rescued them. No god needed
The Big Lick is the most freakish thing I have ever seen! These people are SICK! Horses' natural gait is elegant and graceful. This unnatural movement is horrific. These poor animals!! HPHS is badass!! Well done everyone!! Clint would be so proud of all of you!
The blind white horse with cancer broke my heart. She was so sweet and endured her suffering with so much dignity. She was so trusting you could tell she wanted to live, but evidently could not. She was too far gone I guess, so got the needle instead. Very upsetting and painful to watch. You guys are awesome and Big Lick is big sh*t as well as abusive. I don't know how any of those riders can even feel good about being on the backs of those suffering horses. What a-holes.
I cried and felt sad for hours after seeing her and knowing that her suffering probably could have been prevented.White horses are prone to skin cancer due to radiation and UV. It's the owner responsible to Care for them simply by applying a sunscreen, covering their horse body with a special cover and getting their horse v the myeloma Vaccine.Keeoing their horse out of sun during the hottest peak of the is the simplest thing to do. I've have friends that have white horses and they use all these methods. Their horses are keep beautiful. The thing to remember is excellent care and daily examining their horse for any changes, so that if there are signs of cancer it will be treated successfully in the early stages.
I'm so sorry you lost Clint. He helped so much in helping get the Lickers shut down. I hope you are all able to still boycott at Walking Horse shows down there. I used to volunteer to work on ending soring, and I'm friends with Marty Irby, and we still need to push to get these monsters shut down. As long as people fight, the horses will win.
You all have beautiful Loving hearts employees and the vet Dr ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ It's so heart breaking to see these beautiful horses hurt so bad.
Awwww Kory and Kaitlin, congratulations, look how proud Kory is buying a house together, I wish you all the love and luck in the world 😍😍 Also that the big lick gets terminated very soon, I cannot comprehend how anyone with a heart can do this then ride these poor animals around like they are proud of themselves, it’s disgusting 🤬🤬😤😤 good on all of you for being there for these beautiful horses who can’t speak for themselves ❤
Makes you wonder what is wrong with the human species, so much cruelty n so little love, love your animals, they give it back thousand fold, always your best friend n major respect to your organization
Had no idea this abomination even existed hope it is outright outlawed everywhere thought Tennessee Walkers were bred and prized for their smooth ground covering walk: see Marguerite zHenry’s Album of horses no stacks on the pictured TWH Or depiction of the grotesque artificial movement 😢😢
Album of horses: the twh “has a running walk as fast and smooth as running water. because of its gliding motion it gives the rider the sensation of skimming along oa magic carpet. He is bred not for a flash of speed but for sustained travel, in comfort to his rider and to himself 😬Definitely Not the current atrocious artificial Big Lick
It breaks my heart to see how someone could let their horses get in that state,I'm from the UK and would adopt if I could keep you all the fantastic work you do to help so many majestic horses and the other animals that comes through your sanctuary x
Me too and I cry even more knowing that light colored horses are prone to this type of cancer and that it could have been prevented by using sunblock and keeping them out of the sun during the warmest time of the day This just broke my heart in pieces😢
Omgosh Dr. Nancy your a miracle worker 😃 With all your new ideas, intake seemed to go so much faster, which is good for y'all, but I wanted a longer video. Can't wait to see what becomes of the horses after they get some much needed rest and most of all, some groceries 😋. Poor things are so skinny, it's hard to believe that people would let their own animals starve 🥺. I mean one horse eats rocks because he's hungry, and another one is so hungry he's eating manure 😔. What's wrong with people?? Thank you HPHS for saving all the precious lives you can 🐴. Love and Blessings to all of you with boots on the ground ❤️🙌 Jennifer
Congratulation Cory You all go through so much all the time. It’s not just animal abuse, you all are abused half the time too. God Bless you all and you all stay safe❤ thank you for everything you do….
Some people should be accountable or all the people should be due to the state of these poor horses and ponies as they are so badly treated and are in a lot of pain before they go in the ring to be bidded on so big huge thank you to all the rescueing you do and that’s a big thank you from the UK 🇬🇧 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have never had something make me cry aloud. Ever have I ever seen anything so cruel. Kudos to the individual who are protesting this outlandish treatment.
My dad was given s Tennessee walker mare who never grew big enough to gualify to be trained. She was the sweetest and most fun horse to ride. She just naturally walked all speeds. Did not lope or run, just walked faster when my friend's horse cantored.
Every time I see you rescue the horses I am so mad at the people who have abused them and starved them 😒 you are so incredible working so hard to save them Bless you all
I cry, I feel overwhelming sadness whilst finding some sense of joy that you are rescuing these horses. I know I say it repeatedly but thank you for the amazing job you do. I’m in Australia and I help out how I can but America you need to really take a look at this as I don’t know how anyone can watch this video without being moved. But America as I said this is in your own back yard and I know there must be many good people who don’t know what you do that could help. I thank you all from the very bottom of my heart. I think I now need to go and give my horses a hug! 💜💜🤩🤩👏👏👏🇦🇺🇦🇺
I’m in Australia too, I would love to adopt from these guys, we dont have enough people like this in australia unfortunately! I wish we did. A lot of ours go for dog meat, I had to stop going to the horse sales in my area as I dont have the land, we agist our horses. 😂I always say, if I win tatslotto I will be buying a LOT of land to do this 🥰
Fantastic work - thank you to each and everyone of you. I have never heard of Big Lick - it is horrific abuse. One wonders what goes on in the minds of people who do this to horses. It is such cruelty. We were watching the video to look at how people work together to look after animals. Those of you protesting Big Lick are so brave and compassionate. We talked about how frightening it can be to stand up for what you believe in. Thank you for raising awareness - we watched from Switzerland in amazement at the work you do. Incredible role models to our students.
Only 2 horses from the last auction are left? What happened to all the rest ? What was wrong with them? I know the mini and the pony, and another, and I have seen the other video, but they didn't say what happened to all the other horses.
I would love to have lots of land and rescue horses. I would just let them live their best life. Maybe offer a program for kids/teens to learn about horse care and take part in it.
I used to show my Arabian and would go to shows all over the country. I saw Tennessee walking horses being shown. Also, I never knew how they got their gate until you guys opened my eyes to this horrific cruelty that goes on with these poor horses. Now I am well aware of the cruelty that goes on and I will be telling and spreading the word to all other horse people who don’t know. Before I knew about the horrific cruelty, I always wondered how these horses were taught to gate this way. I thought maybe they just had weights on their feet I didn’t know they were stacks, and I didn’t know about the chemical burns and the chains😭💔.
I cryd a little when the sir said the horses are not going to the slaughter. I cryd because i care about animals. Thank you for helping those animals. Kind regards from Belgium.
How, how can any human being think this is right, how???? Prestige or money or ???? I can only shake my head, how they pretend that its ok. I wish I lived down there, I would be at those protests. Animal abuse of any kind, just not acceptable and these people need to made accountable. Thank you for all you do in helping and trying to prevent what happens, your whole team is absolutely wonderful.
Fantastic guys for facing your fears and facing the law 👍👍👍 Those poor horses can’t even walk straight. Even their hind legs have strain on them, let alone their front legs 😡😡😡 Congratulations on the engagement as well!!!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳
It's terrible to see, and the state of these poor horses when you manage to rescue them from auction......Well done indeed for everything you are doing for them ✨🙏💖✨
Please God bless these wonderful organizations and good people like HORSE PLUS HUMANE SOCIETY for all the wonderful work they do for the innocent. Please bless them always with good health and good lives and bless them with all they need to continue saving lives and giving love. In Jesus name Amen
