Sadus - Certain Death (Fretless Bass Cover)

Here's another fretless reimagining that I decided to do today. And yes, the original was not recorded on a fretless, contrary to urban legend. In fact, most of the music on the first three Sadus albums was recorded on fretted bass. The only fretless part to my knowledge is the bass solo in "Echoes of Forever".
All of my dorky fact sharing aside, I thought it would be sick to give this one another shot. Despite the later Sadus stuff being more "technical", I actually have an easier time playing along to those than to a song like this one. It's such full speed ahead, and you really have to zone in on the recording in order to keep with it. It's a true test of stamina, tightness, and technical riff precision all at once. Even tougher to take that and put it onto fretless bass, with all those chords added and so on!
But I did it, and I hope folks enjoy it. Playing Sadus is always a blast for me, and I feel right at home doing it, but properly challenged as well. I tried to get every riff right note wise, and capture every detail that Steve does, as always. I try my best. This music continues to be my guiding light!
Hope everyone who sees this enjoys!

I feel like no one ever talks about how AMAZING the bass on Sadus songs is

Absolutely, "A Vision of Misery" is an example of my absolute favorite work by Steve Di Giorgio. Ironically, I find the "Illusions" stuff the hardest. Mostly just for the pure aggression.

You're very right! I'm not cut out for fretless at all.

@@evilevie87 I wouldn't say you're not cut out for it. That's too harsh. I would simply say that you need to spend more time with a "normal" bass.

@MFKR696 you will never get amazing on a fretless bass by playing a fretted one
@MFKR696
@MFKR696 10 месяцев назад
@@richarddial6403 That's some pretty useless advice. Fundamentals... They need to be practiced. Fretless basses aren't the end-all-be-all. You're not gonna get "amazing" at *anything* if you try to run before you can walk. Once you've mastered a fretted bass, moving over to fretless isn't that hard. If one *can't* master a fretted bass, on the other hand, there's no point in attempting fretless. Quit blowing smoke up his ass.

@@MFKR696 What are you talking about?, haven´t you watched this guy playing images or Black (way harder sadus songs) on a regular bass?
