Saeco Xelsis Crew Review 

Gail, I purchased the machine, as per your advice, and now am drinking the coffee you also advised. It's about time I sit back and say OMG - thank you GAIL! Love them both.

They sent me one of these free to review written form. I was impressed. Still am. Enjoyed your take on it too. The drinks really are great. They went for an all new look with this machine. I find it quite attractive. The screen seems to hover there with the rest of the control panel circa some luxury European cars. The design puts your drink on stage as if in a theatre. Cup light and water tank light are gorgeous in kitchen. Another pro is the way the milk and coffee dispense you can make two milk drinks at the same time. Also if you're lazy put milk tube down in a glass of milk and not worry about washing the lid and plastic milk carafe every time. You can even put milk in a paper cup to siphon it out if you're super lazy. lol

My older xelsis has been fantastic, use it every day, all the time..once ya taste real coffee done right, everything else sucks, I use Lavazza Super Crema..how people buy Starbucks is beyond me, it's burnt swill and sour at the same time, no wonder they fill it with sugary crap on top...

I'm loving my Rancillio, but almost ready to buy my first Super-auto. This would be the one to put my over! Thanks Gail! you're super-auto special!

Thanks for yet another fine review. While I’ve been aware this machine has been on the market for some time now, it wasn’t until seeing your review that I was tempted and pushed over the edge. So I had my eyes on Jura machines for a while but after researching I think would prefer Saeco machine. This looks it has lots of features and customization. But that comes with the price. My question is is it really worth adding almost $1000 to get xelsis vs picobaristo?

why does the spout have an led light underneath it but no way to turn it on? it's mentioned in the manual, but the menu option is simply not there...

She did not tell you that the Xelsis has a ceramic grinder for 20,000 consistently ground cups (ceramic does not burn the beans), a coffee equalizer to customize strength, volume, temperature of the coffee and also the foam amount and volume (a big deal). This has a Latte perfetto technology which delivers thick frothy milt to hot flat milk. It processes the foam twice for extra richness before dispensing, that is why she likes the foam quality. Uses a thermoblock heating system for high temperatures, fast. Can deliver 2 drinks at once and makes 15 different drink choices. These are high end options that really impact the final drink and are not as important as focusing on a no auto on feature, in my opinion.

Love it. Selecting “milk 1st” gives you a hotter drink (no time for coffee to cool). Titanium versions have no LED spout light. Maybe only the Williams Sonoma versions? That was disappointing.

What is the difference between PICOBARISTO and XELSIS? Understand that they work in two different ways to form the milk foam. What is better?

My older xelsis had an easier carafe system. Not really a super auto if you're always cleaning the milk tube! But great review!

Can you use this for a small coffee shop serving around 300 to 400 users approximately? What type of coffee can be brewed in this?

You could do a comparison of the old model and this new one. Could be interesting. Perhaps with a blind taste test at the end.

Hi Gail! I've watched your videos for years and you convinced me to get the Saeco Vienna Plus 8 years ago. I had a good run with it before it died. Repair costs were the same as a replacement unit, so I didn't do it. More than a year later is the Xelsis still a great machine to buy, considering the granular control and features which look like they'd extend the life of the product. Or should I just think about a Saeco PicoBaristo and save some money?

Hi Gail, can you describe the milk quality? I returned the Saeco Picobaristo with carafe because the milk quality was terrible. Exchanged it for a Breville Barista Touch, but miss the ease and automation of these Saeco machines. Wondering if I should just make the jump to this machine.

I still love my Gran Baristo Avanti. Best machine I've owned.

Which is better xelsis or xpreria evo?

I currently have a $1000 Breville barista, espresso machine that is absolutely horrible. It shoots coffee grounds all over the floor and I have tried every setting and so, so, many different types coffee beans And all I can wind up with is a very bitter espresso. I’ve tried adding more creamer, different sorts of milks and we just cannot get a good cup of anything out of that machine. On the other hand over a decade ago we used to have the Saeco giro And we never got a bad cup of coffee out of it. We use many different types of coffee and we were always happy with all of them. So if this machine compares to that one then consider me sold. If it’s anything like the Breville I think I would return it within a week. Hoping the return policy is decent but on the other hand hoping I wouldn’t have to use it.

Can the powder chute be used for decaf and the hopper for regular? I want the ability to make decaf or regular without a lot of hassle....anybody?

there is one thing i noticed when using the interactive online panel: there are 3-5 unique drinks: the ones i could find thus far melange Großer Brauner kleiner Brauner VERLÄNGERTER caffe crema these 3-5 are unique to the german language. im not sure if its possible to get it to work if you add them to the profile, then change language. and make the drink since the online panel does not give any different message. maybe test this? when putting the language back to english all of them show as NONE but the image shows correctly

This is insanity. I love SCG and Gail, and realize this criticism is not directed at them, but $2500!? The carafe was one of the advantages of the Saeco machines over the Jura machines. Having to clean out the milk hose/siphon each time instead of the autoclean on the carafes? No auto-on? Additional plastic? No thanks. The color touch screen is lovely, but... Moving to a siphon system and increasing the price? Umm...yeah. For $2500 I can get a fantastic semi-auto and grinder. Given that I would have to futz with the milk siphoning system on this vs throwing a pitcher in the wash for a semi-auto, I'll take the semi-auto or older Saeco any day.

This review is lackluster. No talk about the machine's broiler etc? Gail seems not happy to be there? Also, the machine its self is lackluster, it does exactly the same as all other Saeco high end espresso machines to a degree. Gail did not mention that you can control the milk texture on this machine as well from thick foamy milk to micro foam... Gail did not mention the types of drinks the machine can automatically make. For $2500 Saeco should have included a thermo milk container. Why is the Saeco Gran Baristo Avanti still just as expensive as this machine?

That requires every bit as much time and effort to make a cappuccino as a semi automatic yet its slower. Sure its nice to alter settings with a screen, but I dont need a button to put coffee or milk in first with a semi. It looks like a great machine, dont get me wrong. Just seems more like a 'why?' machine.

I have the old xelsis with the carafe system. It was great but during 9 years of service the sensors had to be fixed twice, the machine did not sense that the carafe was in, said that we loved our all stainless steel xelsis. also had issues with the internal water tray sensors and replaced the hinges of the front door that broke. Yesterday we received this newer machine, bought at SCG fro a discounted price. First thing I notice is the machine is narrower but deeper so watch your counter space. The screen interface is marvelous , the quality of the drink IMHO better. As far as the milk component is concern, basically the carafe rubber assembly was built into the coffee dispenser and now you have to connect the milk container to what it used to be the top of the carafe on the old xelsis. Even though we loved the convenience of the carafe, our experience with the sensor was painful, twice sent out for repair, I welcome this change, the cleaning is a breeze and no sensors at any door. The drip tray is also a huge advantage. No front door to deal with every time you need to clean the water tray. The coffee grounds are now in a separate location. The old xelsis had the internal drip tray and coffee grounds together, like better the new one. As far as price, yes very expensive, We paid just as much for the old one, however we think is a welcome upgrade. We drink a lot of coffee, we use these machines a lot, the old one is 10 years old and still works with some issues. If I can get 10 years out of this one it will be well worth it.
